ITT we post animals with their horns.
Horns are the coolest things animals have.
My favorites are Markhors:

Look at this. Magnificent. I wish I was a markhor.

One of Zimbabwe’s largest wildlife reserves, the Bubye Valley Conservancy, recently announced that they must reduce their number of lions, currently at 500, by at least 200. This “issue” is being called “The Cecil Effect” by some, as the overpopulation is being attributed to the fact that trophy hunters are afraid to hunt after the uproar over Cecil the lion’s death at the hands of American dentist Walter Palmer
>>2124753
>"must be reduced"
>"issue"
Hahaha ok. What they are really saying is
>oh no, our profits are going down
>please give us money to kill these animals
>they NEED to be killed.. yea yea, NEED
>>2124755
>overpopulation
>not enough natural resources to support the population
>population becomes susceptible to disease and starvation
>>lol they are lions, they can figure it out
>>2124757
>believing any of that is true here.
Keep being a "redpilled" faggot all you want. I don't give a shit about the lions or cecil but you're a fucking idiot if you think this is about anything other than money.
A cat like this is in front of my house and something ate her right leg. Bones broken.
I dont have the strength to kill it and end her suffering...
But I am having second thoughts ...
God damn it ... if dubs I end her suffering
Just drop a heavy rock on its head, you wimp.
Seriously, take her to the vet and maybe they can save her
What is wrong with people?
Heard about this today. Where were the parents, and why didn't they gore the shit out of the tourists for this?

Welwitschia? Damn try saying that fast five times.
Welcome to /plant/, the resident plant general thread. This magical thread is where an off-colored S. Purpurea becomes christened as a new species, anons are turned on by hikers fucking nepenthes pitchers, and hail continues to wreck another anon's garden. RIP.
/Plant/ is for the discussion of the plants (obviously). Horticulturists, hobbyists and botanists welcome! Questions about plants? Want to show off your two inch dick-I mean plant? Maybe you want to start growing? Well come on over to /plant/!

He's 89 years old now. The day he dies will be a sad day indeed.
It could happen any day now.
>>2116508
I'm hoping that he lives to 100, and within those 11 years, we find evidence of life elsewhere in the universe. He'll narrate the documentary
>>2116510
I hope more that someone else is capable of taking his place.
Never have I seen someone with such passion and love for nature as this guy. He speaks about nature like a teacher would to his preschool class.

Post about dogs here
Went to see some puppies yesterday to test allergies and see how the breeder was. Still allergic to dogs. :(
>>2111482
So cute!
How long does it generally take a dog to learn a new trick? I'm dogsitting every weekday, and I'm trying to teach the dog to shake, but he doesn't seem to get it. Half the time he lies down when I give the shake command. I show him what to do every time.
I know he's not unteachable, he knows sit, stay, and come, and I taught him to respond to a hand sign for sit.
I also need help getting him to walk nicely on the leash, he pulls everywhere, and if he sees a person he sits down and refuses to move until that person pets him.
What the fuck is this shit?
So last week I made a thread about my pupper getting leg surgery. She was taken out of state to St. Louis where my gf is from because her best friend back at home is a vet tech and her office could do the surgery for a good price. So I call her up after the surgery was done and ask her how it went.
She said everything was good but after they finished my doggo's temperature had dropped a lot so they put some warm water packs and a blanket on her to warm her up while she was still knocked out and it had apparently burned her a little bit. At first it was just two smaller spots on her chest, didn't seem like a big deal, but today this is what the shit looks like.
What the fuck happened? Burns all over her chest from leg surgery?
take the pupper to a vet
a different vet

>her best friend back at home is a vet tech and her office could do the surgery for a good price
OP asking friends or family for work can go south real fast.
>>2127307
Well she's back home in NC now so she couldn't go back there if we wanted her to. We had an appointment with a vet here this coming Friday to get the staples in her leg out but we're trying to get it moved up so they can take a look at this.
Seriously, there's so many unique adaptations that these little gobies do that make me wonder if they'll be a new form of amphibious organism. I mean, they don't have lobed fins, but bones connecting their pectoral fins are angled to form "elbows" to help traverse on land. They also can blink! FUCKING BLINK! Most reptiles don't blink! Or, using water in it's mouth as a tongue to help swallow? Or using Suction cupped pelvic fins to climb up mangrove roots? Or to breath with it's skin, or to roll in the mud to not dry out?
There's so much about these shits that if it weren't for humans, these guys would start to populate in total freshwater ponds and traverse through marshes and swamps. You can even see throughout their entire subfamily of 30-some species how they've adapted to live on land, and the more terrestrial a species is, the more upstream in freshwater you'll find them.
So, are they the new Tiktaalik of tomorrow? Or is this a fluke accident?
They're doing pretty well as mudskippers and land niches are already pretty well-covered, so probably not.
>>2127137
BBUUUAARGH
>>2127142
But what about that frog fungus that's spread worldwide? If there is a few extinctions of frogs, then there might as well be some chance for mudskippers to gain a bit of traction, no?
I'm at the end of my rope, /an/. Pic related is my cat, who my wife and I rescued about a year ago. He's playful, moderately affectionate and fairly well behaved. However, he absolutely refuses to be an indoor cat. If we try to keep him inside, he meows incessantly until we let him out.
Recently, the apartment complex we live at changed their rules to forbid outside cats. They've already called the local pound to round up some of the cats in the area. To make matters worse, we live next to a field where he is getting ticks on his fur and bringing them inside. Lastly, he is not a fighting cat, which has resulted in him getting beat up by other cats in the neighborhood.
All of these factors have left us with two options: Find him a new home, which I really, really don't want to do -OR- find a way to get him satisfied with indoor life. We have lots of toys, a cat tree and another cat, yet despite all of this he still seems to want out all the time.
Is there anything I can do to groom him into being an indoor cat? I'm very attached to him, we saved him from the brink of death and it's my pride and joy to see him recover and grow. I don't want to find him a new home, but it's rapidly becoming our only option.
What can I do?
Don't let him out. Ignore his cries.
It'll be hard at first, but he'll eventually stop.
>>2127091
How long can that be expected to take? Is there anything we can do to aid the process? We've tried it in the past and even after a week or more of ignoring it, he remains relentless about it.
I've read about the idea of disguising one of us outside and spraying him with water while scaring him as he stands near the door. It seems like that's nigh-abusive, any opinions?
>>2127095
You just need to stick with it and he'll forget the outdoors eventually. You can try some calming products like Feliway to see if that helps as well.
I'm trying to identify a few plant species and I've had no luck with these few plants, so I'm asking on here if anyone happens to know or likes a good challenge. These plants were found in south eastern West Virginia if that helps.

This was a weird pod thing growing out of the ground, with a few others next to it.
This was another. The large leaves are attached at the base of the flower stalk

/o/ here i need your advice
I currently live on campus and my ex is neglecting her rabbit so i'm probably going to go steal it this weekend and take care of it here because frankly he liked me more and she never fed the thing.
How safe's storing the rabbit in a carrier while it sleeps overnight? I understand it'd need a shitload of hay and a hiding place in the cage, but it was a house rabbit before (Dwarf Lop). I also used to take it for walks occasionally, so that shouldn't be an issue for exercise.
Any advice?
>>2126893
who cares, you're not gonna be able to properly care for a bunny while living on a campus anyway. they need way too much space for that. all you'd do is keep it under shitty conditions while being under the impression you saved it.
>>2126896
The room's a studio about the same size as an apartment, i just can't have it outside the cage at night here because if a night manager sees it i have to move out
>>2126897
If you're talking about keeping it in one of these things every night you can forget about it. Bunnies are active for most of the night and having it locked up for several hours every day in this shit is just torture.
Do dogs eventually bite their owners if they feel annoyed? Or misinterpreting playing as an attack even though you're their owner? Or when you're hugging them too hard? You know what I mean.
Have you ever had that happen to you?
No, an adult dog would never do this unless you abused them or something. A puppy might accidentally draw blood because of their razor sharp little puppy teeth, but they'll learn extremely quickly anyway.
Pitbulls would do this, though, as they are naturally viscous animals who were bred to bite and inflict pain.
I once saw somebody kicking and slapping their large dog (I think it was rottweiler) and the dog didn't fight back. But the dog did something naughty so maybe he felt like he deserved it? I don't know. I'm not a dog expert.
Bump. Guys share your stories please.
