Well /an/, yesterday we found a female kitten in the street. She was very dirty and we thought she was sick. We took her to the vet and she told us that the kitten was just fine. So i brought her to my appartment and she seems pretty comfortable, she meows a lot whenever she notice we arent around, and purrs whenever she finds us. The only problem is that she WONT use her litter box. We tried putting her faeces in the litter box, and putting her there, but she would just jump out of the box without even sniffing around, its quite annoying, and if she doesnt learn soon, sadly i will have to kick her out of my apartment.
Pls help

Btw, idont know if its important but the vet said the kitten was around 1 month old.
We bought a cheap cat litter too, i dont know if we should replace it with actual dirt/sand for the time being, since she doesnt seem to recognize the cat litter.
>>
>my kitten that's probably never seen a litterbox in her entire life isn't magically littertrained after a single day, what's her deal

Anon, I appreciate your good intentions in taking her off the street and in asking for help here, but at the same time: come the fuck on, guy. Your kitten is only just barely past the period of still needing mom to stimulate her to piss/poop at all.

http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=1+2137&aid=3288

I'd suggest shutting her in a smaller area like a bathroom with the litterbox for at least a day or two. Bathrooms are the go-to recommendation because they typically have tile floors that are much easier to clean in case of accidents.

/an/ I really want the companionship of a dog. I don't exactly have all the "required funds". I work 40 hours a week but I'm beat after work so no walks or romps (unless I'm off). Work takes the piss out of me so on days that I work, I just rest and recuperate once home. I'm looking for an older dog or senior dog to fit my activity levels when I'm not working.

I can afford things like a leash/harness, collar, food bowls, food, toys, and a doghouse if necessary (although I'm unsure what circumstance I'd be in leaving a senior dog outside for extended periods of time). Also at my current residence it's possible to install a doggie door. We have a huge property with many acres but no fence and part of the property is near the road of course.

I can do those but I probably won't be able to afford vet stuff. As for the cost of the animal itself, aren't shelters practically giving animals away for nothing just to get rid of them? I'm going for that, then. In fact I'd even be happy taking in a stray dog temporarily (because it'd probably be infested with parasites).

Please tell me what I'm in for /an/. I am dying for companionship

If you can't afford to drop $1,000 for vet bills at any given time you can't afford a dog, anon

I know you're lonely but getting an animal you can't take care of isn't going to magically cure your mental problems, and that dog deserves a real family who can take care of him or her properly

This.

Don't put yourself in the position where you'll eventually have to watch your friend suffer slowly and die because of your inability to provide.
>>
Get a girlfriend instead. Cheaper, legal to have sex with, and you can swap her for a new one when you get bored.

What do you think, is she not hungry or is the mouse too big? I fed her 4 pinkies 2 days ago and I thought she looked hungry still.

Mouse is a bit big, but still is swallowable.
Also make sure you don't leave the mouse in there for any length of time unsupervised.
>>
>>2128957

Is this bait? It seems like bait.

Fuck it.

1. Do not feed your snake more than once every 7 days.
2. What the fuck do you think you're doing feeding a fucking corn snake live prey? Corns have no problem at all with frozen. The only reason to ever live feed is if you have a snake that absolutely refuses frozen and has been on hunger strike so long it has lost a large percentage of its body weight.

How resilient are armadillo carapace armor? How much force could they conceivably withstand?

I'm freaked out a bit, I must know.

also don't touch or eat armadillos

Well I was wondering if they could survive more blunt impact?

I accidentally hit one last night, by the time I noticed him in the road it was too late to swerve or stop (traveling 55mph) so I tried to straddle it and hope for the best. Two thuds were felt, but I know it didn't hit the tires... I kept driving out of panic, but eventually saw "check traction/break assist" lights flashing on my console -- got too freaked out to check if he was under there so I doubled back to see the body....

...there was none.

Later that night I pulled over and had a good look under the car, and despite my worst fears, he wasn't there. Also no blood anywhere to be seen, all the way through the undercab.

Best estimates I could make for how big it was, I'd say there was a mere half inch clearance issue -- so I'm left wondering if he got a severe bump on the top of his shell and just kept on walking.

Is that too far fetched? I was so fraught with fear last night I swallowed a double dose of Xanax, just so I could sleep.

Feed in habitat vs feed in separate container
pros/ cons
GO
19 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>2128659

Separate container not necessarily so long as you put the least amount of effort in to training your snek that hand in tank does not = eating time. You can do that in a variety of ways. Mostly just making sure your hands do not smell of mouse from feeding other snakes that day if you have others. Putting your hand on snake for a moment before picking them up. Keeping tools you use for feeding (forceps) out of sight when it isn't a feeding day.

As for swallowed substrate, that's a non-issue. If your snake is a very aggressive constrictor when it grabs the rodent, you may want to put down a piece of butcher's paper in the tank below the spot you intend to wave around the rodent so snake is on the paper when it grabs.

Only if your snake has a habit of snapping at you every single time you open the tank would i consider moving to an outside feeding bin type thing to break that habit.
>>
>>2128667
This anon pretty much covered it all spot on
I've never taken my snakes out to feed and theyve never mistakenly struck at me, I also try to handle all of my snakes 2-4 times a week so that probably helps.

The petsmart I work at makes us put them in a different container to feed and we have alot of snakes who wont eat for the entire duration we have them especially balls. Have had a cornsnake or two who has ended up snapping at a few people because he was never touched besides feeding time though.

Substrate is really a non issue aslong as the food item isnt soaking wet for whatever reason even if your snake swallows a piece of aspen or whatever bedding you choose it shouldn't bother it in the slightest.

>>2128680
>>2128667
occasionally it will strike when im trying to get it out. though its not very aggressive about it.
im not worried about swallowing substrate, theyve gotten this far eating all kinds of shit.
the issue is just the amount of work separate feeding is. have to get it up, off of me, into something, get the food in, close it, then pretty much the reverse and its always nippy after that.
im thinking enough handling would solve any bite related issues if i switch long as i make it apparent when its handling time vs subtly slipping food in or something.

I always had dogs, but never a Cat, my wife wanted a Cat so we got a little one.

The problem is that I don't know how much what to do.

She stinks a little. How to properly bath her?

She seems to be a bit lonely, she's always meowning when I'm not playing with her. I play trow balls for her and she plays with it for 10min and then she wants me and starts to meow.

When I extend my hand to her she rubb her head and then her back in my hands.

If I ignore and don't play when she is meowning she just sleeps.

So please give tips for a newbie with cats, pic related.

Put it outside. That's where wild animals belong, after all.
>>
Give the little brat attention. Isn't that why people get pets? You're gonna miss it because your cat's eventually gonna get bored of you and you're gonna wish he was still begging for your attention.
>>
>>2128634
Yes, but what can I do with all that energy? I do play with her, but I can't do that all the time. Also which kinds of games she would enjoy?

I found a snail. Are they easy to keep alive or should I throw it in the grass outside?
23 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
I rarely hear anyone taking care of snails and I can only assume there are reasons for that. Just leave the poor thing outside and after maybe some research if you can find another one you can try to keep it alive.

If you want to be evil though you can leave it outside with a circle of salt around of it.

Hey /an/, I found this little guy tumbling over on the side of the road near my house the other day. Hey was about to be gutted by two cats. I bundled him up, and took him home but now I'm wondering if that was smart becuase he doesn't make any noise, and he has blue eyes. So I'm wondering if he's still a baby. If he is can't really help him, but the reason I don't wanna put him back where I found him is because he looses his balance and falls over a lot (especially when he's scared). He can't fly and isn't drink water.

What do I do /an/?

I also want to note that there were other crows at the scene, but they didn't really do much to keep the cats away.
