My roommate and I take care of a stray cat in our culdesac. He's totally blind but knows his way around pretty well, almost as if he had eyesight. This morning when I went out to feed him I noticed that he walked with a limp in his right hind leg. I beckoned him closer and he quietly meowed a lot, rubbing my legs.
I've only recently moved in about a month ago, but I've never noticed this and I doubt it's something I've overlooked since it's so obvious. He also seems very very skinny, but afaik he's always been like that no matter how much we feed him. For reference, I can easily feel his ribs when I put my hand on his side and his hip bone is really apparent when he walks.

Is there anything I should/can do? I'm considering taking him to a vet but I've never done that before and since he's a stray I'm afraid that they either can't or won't treat him, or since he looks kinda old they might choose to put him down.

webm related, it's him.

If you are serious you can try to use a de-worming medicine and just put it in a can or just half a can of wet food just make sure it eats it all. But if you really want to help the cat is to take it in and keep it indoors and get it all cleaned up. It'll appreciate the environment change since and it'll actually be safe.

Forgot to add, the cat in that webm is limping with its hind leg turned out to the side a bit. It looks as if it got hit by a car or has an infection in the hip or something.

Thanks for the reply. I'll look into deworming medicine.

What I really wanna do though is take him to a vet so I know exactly what's going on and how to help, but since I have no prior experience with vets I don't know if I'll go through all the trouble just to end up with either a shrug or an expensive bill over a cat I don't even own.

I'd consider taking him in but my roommate's parents own the duplex apartment we live in and I've been told that she has incredibly strict ban on pets, i.e. not even allowed to have a lizard. Her mom's pretty overbearing and apparently doesn't trust her with pets. On the other hand, they allowed my three snakes to stay since I guess I'm trustworthy. Maybe if I pressed hard enough I could convince them that he's "my" cat, but I feel like that's kinda pushing it.

Have another pic, it's him on the porch outside my bedroom sliding door. He tends to gravitate around our porch and building a lot, probably due to the blindness and how we feed him.

need some advice /an/

my friends 18 week old dwarf rabbit just died after they had it for three days

in the morning it had some diarrhea, then later that night it was limp and had left something looking like sarichia sauce on the floor
we gave it some water but it could barely drink, and it passed away shortly afterwards

we called the vet but they told us it was probably just indigestion

my friend said they fed it rabbit pellets, coriander stems, a Brussels sprout

they are understandably upset, but I'm trying to work out what happened so they feel less guilty

They sold your friend a defective rabbit. Bring it back to the reputable retailer in which they acquired it from and demand a refund post haste.
>>
>>2154339
Did you try turning the batteries around?
>>
No way anything they did could have killed it that quickly short of stepping on it. Most likely preexisting condition.

Pet store sold them damaged bunny.

Buy from a good breeder, ignore the muttfags.

As long as you're willing to do some research and travel a bit to inspect sites and meet the parents you should have no issue finding a good puppy. Pic related, my pupper.
>>
>>2154317
What should I ask the breeder?
>>
>>2154317
And pay a lot of money.

>>2154320
Things like what they do with their dogs (agility, obedience, tracking, it does not have to be confirmation shows but they should do something), what are they breeding for (good breeders will have a goal in mind, but also keep in mind that not all goals are good), what health issues the breed has, what health tests the parents and grandparents have and the results, and if they are done yearly. Ask about their return policy and what would happen should you find yourself in a position where you can't care for the dog. Ask to see the contract and read that over. Ask about how often they breed the bitch, how old she is, how old the stud is. And obviously ask about the puppy's care; they should be indoors, they should be seen by a vet before you even get to them, they should have distemper vaccines and dewormer and flea meds before you have them. They shouldn't leave the mom before 8 weeks, some breeders keep them longer.

Don't feel weird about asking too many questions because they should be giving you the third degree too

Help /an/, I was wondering if any one here owns parakeets. How do you go about feeding them treats? Specifically home made ones. Currently I chop up green beans and carrots and sprinkle them wth seeds. Other ideas?

>>
>>2154269
If you mean budgies i have three rescued ones from different backgrounds.

In spite of all coming from bad homes, jealousy works wonders - especially if one is braver than the others. They tend to try new treats to spite the others lmao. That and they like trying what i eat.
>>
i just give mine whatever and they try it, they can be weird about greens so i cook them mixed into eggs or the bird granola etc i make them but they're enthusiastic about everything else and like trying new food...

when i had two that were scared of new foods i hung them like toys, ate then offered them some or mixed them with seeds until they got over their fear and just tasted things i'd put out for them... my green cheek helped them get over their fear of new foods too
>>
Eggs? Just fried eggs? Or boiled or what? Sorry for all the questions, just really trying to give hem a variety of foods instead of just the same hints over and over.

Hey /an/, fa/tg/uy here. I'm hoping you can help me with something. I've never posted on this board before so I'm coming cap in hand and know this probably isn't what the board usually covers.

In a game of D&D I'm currently in due to a series of unfortunate events one of my characters is turning into a fair folk, one of the fey, themed around predators, night and the forest.

So my GM and I have decided he'll have aspects of a super ambusher/hunter, an apex predator and king of the dark forests.

I have got no clue at all about what sort of things I could do to bring that across apart from long meat-tearing fangs and having predatory stillness about him, I'm also thinking of giving him horns to line with the classic image of the Horned Hunter.

I was wondering what sort of horns I should go for as well as other physical aspects that tend to be found in apex predators and creatures of the forest?

>>
>>2154248
When I think predators, nights, and forests I think of big cats, specifically Jaguars. I have no clue where horns fit in as they generally belong to hooves herbivores.
>>
>>2154371
Yeah I'd definitely skip the horns and go with skills like tree climbing and extreme stealth. They also tend to be sprinters instead of endurance runners so do with that as you will. Maybe a skill of being able to disappear into the shadows? It's been a while since I've played

Have you never heard of elder scrolls? Gotta go with The cat dudes man. They are perfect for the standard thieves build and are "apex" predator type creature.

I've wanted a larger parrot than what I already have for the longest time now, and I've decided on any type of Conure. I took a trip to Petco, and I saw a parrot that looks like pic related.

Adorable and affectionate little guy, he was rolling over on his back, running up to me from his cage, I even got to hold him and he wouldn't leave my finger.

I don't know what to do, I know buying from any chain pet store is a sin, but I've fallen head-over-heels for this guy. Should I look elsewhere for another bird or take this guy home?

Also general parrot thread.

>buying from shops is a sin

No its not. If the animal is happy and healthy there is literally nothing wrong with buying from shops bar the often inflated price. Breeders arent necessarily amazing owners; i know plenty of bird breeders who are in it solely for the money...

I've been a lifelong owner and lover of pet birds, and I've read in several source materials and by fellow breeders back when I bred cockatiels that avocados are very toxic to the point of being lethal to birds.

Is this true? Or is this a myth, like that if you touch a bird's nest the parents won't return or that birds can't smell?

Also what is it about the avocado that makes it dangerous to birds and why not people or cats or dogs and is it only specific birds? thanks /an/
7 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>2153635
Meh, avocados are pretty bad for most animals to eat because of the fatty oils.

As far as why they're allegedly so bad for birds, I couldn't tell you.
>>
>>2153635
actually avocado IS toxic to cats and dogs. please do NOT feed avocado to your pets.
>>
>>2154173
it's not especially toxic to cats and dogs but will cause vomiting.

as for birds, they are in fact very poisonous. no idea why.

Wet food
>>
>>2153625
They can do this pretty easily.
Wet food is the right answer like anon said. Cats soak up moisture well.
>>
>>2153630
>>2153628
Not OP but my cat doesnt eat wet food. To the point where he needed to be hospitalized once because he didn't eat for the first 8 days we had him. We tried turning him to it slowly but if his food is even the slightest bit moist he wont touch it and would rather starve to death. Is there any fix for other than just shoving it down his throat?
