You have probably seen me post photos of the cottontail and her babies who hangs around my house. I unfortunately have to report one of my cocksucker neighbors most likely shot her and several other rabbits with a pellet gun and dumped their bodies. He claims he is keeping the coyotes out of the neighborhood, he posted about doing this to social media and the cops came out and warned him that its against the codes in Fort Worth to fire off a pellet gun or any gun inside city limits as well kill wild life like this. He apparently has some beef with our home owners association and I figure he is taking it out by killing animals. He got in trouble about two years back for shooting a coyote down at the mailbox and got his first warning about firing a gun off in city limits then.
She was a wild animal and had been at this house since I bought it about three years back and I knew eventually this was going to happen. Though getting shot and tossed in a garbage bag and thrown away is no way for such a cute harmless animal to go.

Reminds me of a dog I had. She was a rather pudgy Old English Sheepdog with a really thick shaggy coat, so she was always trying to stay cool in the hotter months. She did this by going into the air conditioned, tiled bathrooms and lying down on the floor, maximizing contact with the cold surface. Unfortunately for us, this meant that anyone needing to use the bathroom would have to gingerly step around the giant dog sleeping on 3/4 of the floor.

I have a problem with this mantis, basically after I try to handle him I put him back in the container and, whatever position it assumes, it stays like that for many hours.
Even when it's not touching the ground with its legs.
Also i have him for a day and he hasn't eaten nor drunk.
I never had a mantis so i'm a bit panicking.

why do you handle your mantid? That is an immense stress factor, especially for H. coronatus, because they are real pussies.
Also, this species is not really for beginners.
Also, it's wing buds look a bit thick (can't say for sure by the pic) on the pic, maybe it was preparing for it's next molt and you killed it because you couldn't keep your fingers away from the poor guy.

Can anyone shed some light on what this is and what caused it? A friend sent this image to me asking if I knew what it was, and while it is familiar as something an insect or rodent might do, I cannot find anything similar online to confirm.
He found it a couple of days ago on open floor space and apart from accidentally disturbing it earlier today it has not changed. It is approximately the size of a thumbprint and looks like common salt, however he has no salt like that in his apartment (the pieces are apparently too big to be sugar).
Has anyone seen something like this before?
(I've posted it in /an/ because I'm sure it is insect related. If I'm wrong, forgive me)
We have also entertained the possibility that his apartment is haunted and the ant version of the Winchester brothers have been to work, so /x/ is the next stop.

in my limited experience, salt usually does appear in small circles, if it has crystallized from drops of water with a lot of salt dissolved in it. I always saw a pattern like this when I was evaporating salt water or sugar water on a slide under a microscope. Can't say if this happens on wood, however. Even if it is crystallized brine, you may not have a plausible source on the premises, so ... yeah.
Disregard this if the crystals are completely loose and not stuck to the surface. In which case, yes, /x/ may provide more amusing, if ludicrous, theories.

This is not bait, as you guys may think.
I was wondering if i could keep salamanders (and/or shrimp, pygmy cory, whatever) in a large black aquarium and breed them until they're white and no eyes.
I'm considering this because in my backyard they lay eggs constantly and my pond is getting crowded with a lot of sallies in there.
Also completely unrelated but where can i buy "Grotto salamanders" for sale??

You need an extremely large sample (think 10,000 to 100,000) in order to make an experiment like that. And that's small fry in actual evolution in nature.

Salamanders have very fast adaptations, axolotls don't reach adulthood normally, but can be made to reach artificially, same with olms.

I have an unbearable mosquito problem.
I love watching the dragonflies zip around the sky eating all the devil spawn up. I also see bats doing their part.
I know for bats I can build some bat boxes, but for the dragonflies how can I attract them?
Perhaps certain flowers.

So today my cat was hiding in a cupboard, one of her favorite hiding spots. All of a sudden I heard her meowing loudly as if distressed. I went over to her and she came out and continued meowing at me. Then she went under the kitchen table and collapsed and peed on herself. She stayed there for a few minutes, and wouldn't even get up to go outside. (She always wants to explore our back yard). After a few minutes she went outside and layed down again, then slowly started poking around.
I brought her back inside and she sprinted toward her litter box and has been laying in there ever since. She meows when I try to pick her up, but she is also purring when I touch her. Right now she is in her litter box cleaning herself.
Yesterday I took her to my girlfriends mom's house to hang out for the day because there are other cats there, but she mostly kept to herself and now that she is home she did all this. Is she just stressed out or should I be concerned that there is a medical issue?
