Hi everyone!

Does anyone of you keep snails? I want to start to get some for food production. Thinking about keeping them outside in Cage about 2mx2m in size maybe larger. Any experiences on the whole thing? Most important stuff to look out for, what Kind of species to use, etc.?
I'm from the mid western part of Germany if that is of any importance.
Any help is apreciated!

id suggest going to restaurants and collect there veg scraps for food. also watch for foods with copper, copper can be poisonous for many species of snails. they will reproduce just like rabbits so for edible snails id buy a few coolers with some holes in the top.

What's wrong with this stray cat's paw, /an/? He doesn't look like in pain though.

When cats get very old, they begin to lose the ability to retract their claws. The claws grow thicker and brittle as they age to a point where they become too thick to retract and harder to shed by itself. Or, if a cat isn't able to shed their claws they can overgrow and not completely retract. I feel like the latter wouldn't be common for a stray cat as back claws are often shed or broken off in climbing, running, jumping and fighting which is vital for survival. You're probably looking at a cat that doesn't have much time left out in the 'wild'.

Guys, I need advice. So, I put my new betta fish in a 3 gallon tank yesterday, and today I decided to feed it. The problem was, it wouldn't eat. After consulting google, I learned that betta fish have to get used to their tank before they will eat, and that usually takes a few days.

As a person with severe anxiety disorder, every worst case senario popped into my head. It could starve, and I'm extra worried because my betta is an adolesent, and is still growing. But if I leave the food in the tank, it will pollute the water. But I am cycling my tank, so frequent water changes are necessary. Can you /an/ons talk some sense into me, and possibly give me advice to get my fish to eat?

Maybe they were affected by heavy winds when they were small, or gradual soil movement over time? Trees can look pretty gnarled and dumb when they've had to adapt to being pushed around and moved

What is your opinion of positive only dog training?
18 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>2152761
you're only rewarding them when they do something you like.

which means you're withholding that reward the rest of the time. Withholding a reward for bad or neutral behavior isn't really positive training, now is it? In fact keeping that delicious reward away most of the time is pretty negative behavior.

so yeah, you should probably just call it passive aggressive training. Let's be honest.
>>
>>2152761
How do you feel about getting someone hooked on cocaine so you can take it away from them if they don't follow your orders?

yes, it is, absolutely

This thread is here to discuss and provide information about the history of life on earth.

Post interesting facts, pictures of fossils and anything else related to extinct paleofauna.

To start things off, I'll just list some interesting specimen and say a few things about them:
The first one (pic related) is Quetzalcoatlus, which is the biggest known animal to ever take to the sky. It's part of the group Azhdarchidae, which is one of the few pterosaur groups to make it to the KT boundary 66mya. You'll notice that it's covered in a hair-like integument. These are called "pycnofibres", which may or may not represent extremely primitive feathers.

this one is Dickinsonia, the most prominent of the Pre-Cambrian "Vendobiota", who mostly resemble water-filled mattresses of different shapes and sizes. They represent one of the first multicellular organisms in the fossil record. The strange thing is that no one is quite sure what these things are. We don't know if they're animals or plants. Some paleontologists actually believe they belong to a different type of organism entirely.

>Late Cambrian

even though it's just a few centimeters long and looks like a worm, Pikaia is tremendously important, since it's the possible common ancestor to all vertebrates (or very close to that).

>Yi Qi
>Late Jurassic

this is a very basal Paraves (which is the base of the evolutionary line that leads to birds) and was found in China. It retains many features of a classic reptile (jaw with teeth, unfused fingers, ...) and has a particularly interesting wing, which is made up of a membrane that's spanned up between the fingers.
