Well, which scenario did you pick?

The iOS port of FF6 is enough to make me wish we could revoke the "remakes and ports are ok" rule for /vr/
Search your hearts, you know this to be true.

Neville Chamberlain was the last person as wrong as you are.
Blood >= Duke > SW
Does anyone remember Monster Rancher/Farm? I would say it had a lot of unique ideas and mechanics that separate it from the other Mon types like Pokemon and Digimon. the series, as far as I know is dead except a mobile game I think, which probably has to do a lot with the death of the CD. If you were to make a game like it how would you make the monster rancher way of generating monsters work today? I think I would try to get it to steam and have it based on the steam library.

>I think I would try to get it to steam and have it based on the steam library.
You madman.
Realistically it only needs some string of characters to interpret, and there's a number of interesting ways, but you'll never quite be able to work in "mystery discs" in quite the same ways as you used to. My solution would be to use images; The DS games already had something like this with drawing symbols, but I was thinking of more having it try and decipher the mess of symbols created when you drop an image into a notepad file. You could either have the player upload images of certain dimensions, or if on a mobile game, use their camera to photograph things to generate monsters. Hell, it would probably be easier to just turn everything into QR reading, but that would probably take some of the mystery out of it when people figure out EXACTLY what makes what.

How old were you when you first beat the game without using the warp zones and continues?
I'll let you know when it finally happens.
>>4054580
I think I was 8, little kid me didn't know about them.
Anyways I still really love SMB1. I know it is famous as a icon but I still play it and think it holds up great for what it is. The levels are honestly designed well and the challenge is fair. Just a great game.
>>4054580
That's too specific for me to remember, but it was in my early teens, via the NES games you can find in the gamecube version of Animal Crossing.
I miss having a cozy little basement full of NES games. I beat a few of those old games for the first time that way.
WHY DO YOU PLAY OLD GAMES?
HOW CAN YOU HANDLE SUCH LOW FIDELITY??
Is this a bait? I don't even...

"'That, and I was at a Gran Turismo event recently where they had PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 games, and the PS1 and the PS2 games, they looked ancient, like why would anybody play this?'' - Jim Ryan (Sony Europe)

>>4054429
I believe he's referencing some Sony marketing guy who, at a recent event where they had all four PS systems set up, wondered why the fuck anyone would want to play the PS1 or 2 because the graphics looked so ancient.
Why is this shaq so expensive? All it does is load a fucking ROM.
Because people will pay that much. Simple supply and demand, faggot.
They aren't mass-produced, they're made by one guy in like Ukraine, and it took a long time to develop.
Those play most of the special chip games, so that alone makes up the price. All the other versions get fucked with those games.
Is this Treasure's worst retro game?
>>4054083
None of the Treasure games were any good. Overrated company.
The US version of Silhouette Mirage is pretty bad.
Also I hated Light Crusader, but I think it's less that it was bad and more that I just don't like that kind of game.
>>4054098
I dunno, I thought Ikaruga was pretty good.
Was she useless as a party member?
The funnels attack on her robot (forgot the name, Vierge?) were totally OP, though.
Not with an Ether Doubler
With the right gear she was fine if not better than most. Citen, Esmeralda and Chu are all better so no reason to give her a party spot tho.
Snes Aladdin
>better graphics
>better colors
>better music
>better gameplay
Genesis Aladdin
>better animation
Why do people think the Genesis one is superior again? You'd have to be a delusional segafag to convince yourself otherwise.
Oh boy, we sure never had this discussion a million times before.
Because muh sword
>>4052298
the genesis game was a better experience imo, the snes version was over polished and way to cutesy

What retro PC games won't run properly in DOSbox, PCem, or VMWare with any amount of tweaking, and how do they fuck up? I see a lot of shilling for actual builds here, but is it just for muh experience or are there actual edge cases that demand it?
>>4051926
when it comes down to it, there is nothing retro PC hardware could do that modern PC hardware can't do or emulate. if there is functionality that isn't 100% accurate, it is only a matter of time before that is corrected. had *nix systems been more successful than their aggressively marketed Windows counterpart, incompatibility between software and OS would never have been an issue.
>>4051954
Yeah, that's how I see it too. I was curious if there was some weird demo or game that puts emulation fags like me on suicide watch, though. Or even things like the game being playable but having some nagging thing that just isn't quite right no matter what.
Which translation patch should I get for the NES version?
>>4051385
Play it in Japanese.
>>4051385
it honestly doesnt matter because the story in III is terrible to pointless. The gameplay was great. But if you are worried about text at all just play the DS version. Otherwise you just need english enough for the menus
>>4051385
Don't play the DS version, the NES version is so damn good.
I think I used this - https://www.emuparadise.me/Nintendo_Entertainment_System_ROMs/Final_Fantasy_III_(Japan)_[En_by_A.W.Jackson+Neill_Corlett+SoM2Freak_v1.1]/55494

>>4049429
I always thought that shyguys in SMB2 looked like walking loaves of bread wearing a mask.
Loyal, Lethal... Stupid.
I can't beat this guy, any tips? I have the rolling shield but it's not really helping
Wow, this totally deserves a thread.
Here, have a (you).
The trick is to keep shooting all he throws at you rather than trying to dodge them.
Boomer cutter cuts his arms off and nerfs him greatly. Still he's not too hard without it.
