Retro games that are just pure fun.
Doesn't matter the hardware, doesn't matter the genre, just post things you have a 10/10 blast of a time playing every time you fire it up.
Alien VS. Predator for the arcade is one of the most satisfying beat-em-ups ever made.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
It's my go-to game when I'm bored. Gets you pumped up every single time, literally perfect design.
You have to be literally autistic to enjoy this game.
That's how I feel about the American Contra Hard Corps
a game without difficulty is like a book without story, useless
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOcixHq99IY
Name one thing autistic about this. I'll wait.
I dunno if you anons were like me and my friends (I'm 30 and from the UK) but back in the day when I was at school (high school for you americans) we spent an unbelievable amount of time getting stoned and playing Goldeneye multiplayer.
We were very particular about the rules / settings we used, and I wondered if you other anons who grew up in the n64 golden age played it differently or the same?
We pretty much always did:
Pistols only
Licence to Kill mode (one hit kill)
Radar on
No Oddjob allowed
(bonus q: did you guys have favourite characters? I always habitually played as Boris. not even really sure why, was just my lucky character)
>>4055883
>Radar on
Ya goofed. It's only a good idea when you have, say, 2 people in a big map and you worry about too much downtime.
>>4055883
>paintball mode
>jaws and baron samedi unofficial hard mode
>remote mines and proxy mines
>license to kill slappers only for lolz
>helicopter pilot all the way
Randomized the maps for the most part
>>4055883
Oddjob is the only decent character in multiplayer. Why ban him?
What does /vr/ think about these fake 3D maze things?
I like them
Why is it fake?
>>4055459
Looks like 3-Demon without the fun.
How come threads about Raspberry Pi for emulation are allowed when threads for using a PS2 for emulation (not talking about it's native games or the consoles native gaming capabilities) aren't?
Mods not familiar with their own rules?
>>4054626
PS2 is too new for /vr/ you faggit
>>4054627
So are Raspberry Pi's and FPGA consoles.
>>4054627
Not OP but I get his point.
Like disussion of PSX games is allowed, why wouldn't dissusion of PSX games under PS2 be?
I started started playing doom on the nintendo 64 its a mixed bag of a game and I want to hear your opinions on it.
>>4052613
Its too dark. The lighting really boosts the mood of this Doom over other versions but can be a pain in the ass sometimes. And the laser was a cool addition at the time.
>>4052613
I enjoyed it a lot, but I played it on the PC using Doom64EX, which is a very faithful port (using the original ROM).
Perhaps try it on PC with mouslook? might be easier to control and more fun.
>>4052613
I like it for being an original story but i personally prefer the original as it gives you more options and you could mod it.
In fact lack of mods is the worst part about doom classic edition on the PS3 outside of no mods and lack of control options it is quite a good game as it finally permits the use of the sticks.
Starting with some superb fantasy art from Mystic Arc on Super Famicom and PlayStation by Akihiro Yamada.
Any interesting games on this thing?
Of course not.
Is basically a Coleco Vision, the only game I can think of off the top of my head it has that Coleco doesn't is Wonder Boy 1.
>>4062991
Imo, The Castle is the best SG-1000 game.
Girl's Garden can be fun for some minutes as well.
Is windowed mode at the original or x2 resolution the best way to play retro games on modern screens?
CRT filters still look like shit and make no sense before we hit 8K
>Fusion
>EPSXE
>Snes9x
>Visual Boy Advance
REEEEEE
WHO MADE THAT PICTURE?
>>4062932
I'm just using it because I was too lazy to make my own, I know they're shit emulators but my question isn't about them
>>4062931
>CRT filters still look like shit and make no sense before we hit 8K
You know this because? Oh right you're an underage parrotor that names screen resolution by the horizontal size.
What's your opinion on these two controllers for retro games? Mostly NES, SNES, GameBoy, Mega Drive/Genesis, etc.
Other than the originals, are there better wireless alternatives out there?
>>4062743
The XBox One is a better emulation controller. It's the best built controller this millennium and the best thing to come out of console gaming in the past 3 generations. True plugnplay option for windows also. Stay away from past Xbox controllers. They're cheap but absolute garbage.
Little reason to buy the Nintendo controllers. The Wii U is very ergonomic though. Haven't tried the overpriced switch controller. I'm told the drivers you can install are good now but I tried using the Wii U controller when it came out and it was a mess.
Do your own research of course and ymmv. Just note that 99% of controller reviews you see out there are by retards that couldn't tell you specification about a controller and do minimal if any compatibility testing.
>>4062743
Switch controller is basically god-tier, and has a better D-Pad than the Wii U pro controller, which is quite nice too. This anon >>4062764 is 100% right though, about everything. Switch controller D-Pad is better, but the X1 D-pad is a HUGE lead forward from the 360's, and everything else about it is basically perfect. The plug and play with Windows is important too, and it's cheaper than the Switch Pro Controller. Main reason why I can't into PS4 is because the Dual Shock is just so flawed, whereas the X1 controller is great for everything, retro, modern, emulation, whatever.
>>4062764
I have both the Wii U pro and Switch and tried the Xbox One at a shop.
The Wii U Pro needs custom drivers and stuff but the Switch Pro is a standard Bluetooth controller. It works natively on Windows, Linux, Mac, Android, iPhone, etc etc.
The Xbox One controller has clicky shoulder buttons and analog triggers, which is a drawback IMO. Both the triggers and shoulder buttons feel like normal buttons on the Swith Pro, which I love.
Anyone knows if there's any mod to fix the Switch Pro D-pad? It's not too bad but it could be better.
Which is your highest score on Star Fox 64, /vr/?
>only 3 medals
What a casual.I probably can't do that much
>>4062705
Ironically I got more medals but less kills in another playthrough
>20 year old score
>1 kill away from medal on MA
>Never done better
>Still wake up in cold sweats screaming "SLIPPY GET BACK HERE"
>Wife sleeps on couch now
>tfw I will never get a perfect medal run or save my marriage
So I'm starting a playthrough of pic related and my pause menu doesn't appear. I couldn't find anything with Google and I was wondering if maybe I have a shitty emulator for it? I'm using ZSNES and I didn't know if anyone else has had similar issues.
>ZSNES
Fucking hell, we're going to be dealing with you idiots until the end of time, aren't we?
>>4062650
>The Emu recommended it to me otherwise I wouldn't have used it
>>4062648
Try it on higan. Also ensure you patched the correct version of the rom. Headered/headerless makea a difference.
Is this game really as bad as /vr/ claims it is? Thinking of buying it. Recently played through REmake for the first time (normal, hard and survivor difficulties back to back) and was blown away by it. I want more but I'm worried this will disappoint in comparison.
Tbh I played through CV once as a kid but I barely remember it. I do remember liking it a lot though.

Anon, everything will disappoint in comparison of REmake
IF you still want to play CV try the HD version
>>4062363
>Anon, everything will disappoint in comparison of REmake
why tho
>>4062317
Without a doubt, my favorite RE game.
Just play it again and make up your own mind.
More importantly stop making these /v/ tier threads.
I apologise in advance if this is posted in the wrong section. So I somehow found and snagged a gem today for 25 bucks! I didn't know such a beast even existed... It is a Sony kv-36hs500. I just have a few questions.
How can I make this thing last as long as possible? When I turn it on it makes a sound like "BRONG" lol I've heard CRT TVs make this sound before, is it bad? If a tube goes out on a crt is there any way to fix it? I've had crt's in the past but since I've gotten back into my nes and SNES I've become a lot more curious about these. Any help/ opinions/ personal experience anyone is willing to share would be much appreciated!
>>4062047
>When I turn it on it makes a sound like "BRONG" lol I've heard CRT TVs make this sound before, is it bad?
degaussing, it is normal
>>4062047
thats bad. your crt should be making more of a BRAP sound.
My CRT goes "floop floop" when I hit the button
Was there literally any point besides being offensive?
Not that they aren't pretty fun as a novelty, but there is just no appeal besides shock value. There's not even an attempt at making the games sexy, as the characters are almost always in absurd situations.
Lack of creativity on the parts of the developers, who are hoping meme value will sell their game for them. Same reason for all the shitting/pissing/dick joke "games" on Steam today.
you forget that back in the 80's porn wasnt as massive and accepted like now. Like you were in the same level as a drug dealer if you were seen near a XXX cinema. Or getting a porn magazine. So people then had a lot of imagination and fapped to even the most basic representations of porn.
>>4061865
Before the internet literally every book store, magazine stand and gas station sold porn.
>>4061707
The point was to make money. Spin two successful elements of youth culture into gold. Remember, there was little to no review system for video games period and even rags like Vidiot or Cream probably didn't review the porn games (will probably look that up). Nowhere with a demo console would have sold it, probably (that's how I picked games back then). They were sold entirely on their covers and controversy value.
