Has anyone on this board ever beaten this game?
How long did it take you and how did it feel when you finally succeeded?
I really want to finish this game, but the game can get so discouraging.
Why people talk about this game and not Ghouls Patrol ??
Got to level 41 i think or so. Was one of the maze levels with the giant ants
Yeah, I think my record is about halfway. The issue is that once you get far enough the passwords don't help since you start with no equipment. Some levels you need enough weapons to actually get through. Especially the cave one with the giant worms that come out of the ground. That one is actually impossible if you can't kill enough of them to get the skeleton keys to move to the end.
Anons, I've tried getting into this game probably half a dozen times. The atmosphere and plot always draw me in, be the gameplay never clicks for me. The farthest I've ever gotten is stumbling into Lea Monde itself.
I started a new run yesterday. Any advice from you guys? Should I sit down and study a faq?
if you don't like it, don't play it
I love the game, but it's not for everyone
but here are some tips anyway
use the analyze spell
keep weapons of all types (edge, blunt and piercing)
keep your risk low by doing 8 chains max
warlock spells are a waste of time
elemental gems and break arts are OP
class is the least important stat
keep track of your DP and PP
raging ache is OP
What are you having problems with?
25 a pop for chrono trigger and Mario rpg (both in box with manual), 15 for SMW 2 ( loose cart). 25 for Virtual On, 10 for Sonic 3 (I think I slightly overpaid for this, but it was the cheapest at the show). All from Too Many Games near Philly. How did I do, /vr/? Keep in mind the Nintendo games are SFC, not SNES. I would post an actual photo but my phone produces huge image files.
>>4080562
oh boy jrpgs in Japanese, my favorite
>>4080576
I've been learning Nippon on the side, I thought it might be a fun learning aide for 25 a pop
Also, Virtual On is the Saturn version.
New survival horror just isn't the same. I don't know what it is but they just can't recreate the same feel as the classics. What is your favorite retro survival horror?
>>4079910
>New survival horror just isn't the same
Because the market for fixed-camera angles, fog, terrible voice-acting and bland mansions is as wide as a nail. Times change,
RE7 is the future of survival horror, and it was a decent game
>inb4 not /vr/ just giving an example
>>4079910
Code Veronica is pretty creepy desu
>>4079910
Traditional, fifth gen style survival horrorlike vehicular combatis a genre tied firmly to the technological limitations of the hardware. They're not even as scary as they used to be when they represented the precipice of technology
>>4079950
Actual VR games can be scary that same way. I agree that RE7 was good and if I had a rig to have played it in VR mode it might've truly scared me.
>>4079974
Silent Hill is my favorite but Code Veronica (and, pushing the genre already - D2) are also up there. I like feeling like I can fight and eventually win against the horrors.
Modern horror games all have you either completely helpless or a killing machine.
Would anyone be interested in competing for scores in a chosen arcade game?
For example, here's my shitty score in Donkey Kong (Japanese version). Play the game and post your score, and in the meantime we can discuss the gameplay of some classic arcade titles.
Ports would be fine too, if that's what people choose.
I've been trying to get the best scores possible in Mega Man - The Power Battle courses.
Only found one friend who got into the game.
MM1-2 course, score 645600:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFixHpbwuV8
MM3-6 course, score 670500:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vd3T9AkWb_8
MM7 course, score 679700:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMykyLjCQjg
In theory it's possible to score about 30-50k more in the MM3-6 Course, however it's a hassle and you'll have to figure it out yourself
>Donkey Kong (Japanese version)
I play the port of the arcade game included on DK64, not sure how it compares to the japanese version but here's my humble hi-score anyway.
Interesting thread, we should try agreeing upon one game to play.
I saw the Polybius thread and thought that maybe you guys would like to discuss /vr/ related stuff in the same vein.
Feel free to share
>Urban legends you know
>Personal experiences
>Etc.
Curiosity Bump
Another bump
let's bump
this is a 10/10 port in brazil
As it should be. Monica is my waifu!
It's not a port so much as it is a legal sprite edit though.

Magali > Mônica
What do you think is the second best Castlevania game?
I've got to go with Bloodlines.
Multiple characters, some of the best tunes in the series, and controls that feel more loose than in the NES games but don't go full retard like CV4 did.
The JP version of 3 is really good too.
>full retard like CV4
Here we go again! Another Castlevania /vr/ thread.
Anyway, my favorite is III, second would be CV1.
WORST
CASTLEKINO
EVER
>>4077716
i just found out that the jp ver of 3 has better music and is easier. that and rondo are my favorites
So what's so special about CRTs? This hurts my eyes and my ears and playing on a flat screen is fine to me.
>>4074148
Sorry, you're too stupid to understand
>>4074148
It's what they used to make them.
Everything else and emulators is a modification. Like new colors on a reprinted comic. Fine but not the real deal.
>>4074148
You have to be at least 18 to post here.
What're your favorite GB/GBC games?
One of mine is Kirby's Dream Land 2 which I'm replaying now on a Super Game Boy right now.
>One of mine is Kirby's Dream Land 2 which I'm replaying now on a Super Game Boy right now.
excuse my typo i'm tired lol don't feel like remaking the whole thread
>>4071980
That is a damn pretty palette, I must say.
>>4071987
Yeah, using a Super Game Boy really makes most games look a lot better and in some cases gives them a more high quality soundfront.

Anyone try the new M&M7 mod that apparently lets you play it in 1920x1080?
>>4013028
there might not be a ton that i like about 4, but some of the monster designs were alright. Shame looking back it is pretty graphically dated, poor vilespawn.
>>4013181
Disciples 2 came out the same year and had much better art. Not a big fan of the combat though.
Excellent music to pretty good games thread.

Except replace "pretty good game" with "shit game".
>>4087339
In your case yes.
>>4087335
Wait what the fuck is going on
Listen to that from 40 seconds in
Now go to 1:10 in this video

Am I a newfag? Did they really pull an obscure track from DC3 to be the theme for super mario odyssey? Or is it older than that?
So I just modded my Wii to play NES games (because I don't want to risk modding my NES mini) and I realized I cannot use the Mini NES controller in it.
Have someone worked on it to work?
Doesnt it connect to the wiimote?
>>4086803
it does
but when I did that with FCE Ultra GX running, it fucks it up, had to disconnect it to continue playing
>>4086806
Maybe have it connected before starting it up? Or go to the controller setting and make sure its set as a classic controller, i think thats what its registered as.
newishfag here.
since I started making the switch to just retro gaming i've noticed some changes
>better sleep
>better attitude at work
>more desire to hang with people
>jerkin it less
>reading more
>better sex drive/desire to work out
anyone else go through that or am is this a coorelation not causation thing? i started loving up on my old collection so I could play with friends and im playing vidya less but enjoying it more now.
what were you playing before retro games? mobas?
>>4086157
Seems you just found a hobby you enjoy. Normal to bring happyness.
>>4086157
A lot of modern games are designed to vampire all your time. So people will feel like they're getting their money's worth. Old games are to the point, simple, and fun. Designed for you to have a good time and come back for more.

We might actually live to see the day when the whole series is localised at this rate, holy shit
