Is listening to podcasts or youtube lectures while studying bad to do? Like would it hinder how much you actually take away from the study session? Sometimes I find it helps me be able to work for longer periods but idk
>>8700513
probably better for longevity but i personally have a better time remembering things if i study in the same conditions as the test aka no music, paper in front of me, rewriting things
Listening to anything is bad
Even if you are working longer, your time is less productive
I use to be able to do this as a teenager. 4chan destroyed my attention span.
Why isn't it infinity? Or 1?
yeah

>Have a jar with 0 cookies

>Everyone of those 0 friends take infinite cookies from the jar with 0 cookies
>>8699246
Under your anaology 0/0 is defined as 0, as 0 friends would be taking 0 cookies out of an empty jar.
[eqn]\displaystyle \zeta \left( \sum_{k=1}^{\infty} \frac{9}{10^k} \right) = \zeta(1) = \infty[/eqn] Therefore, [math]\displaystyle 0.999\ldots = 1[/math]

nope, you are you fucking brainlet
What are some of the most promising AI projects that are currently happening?
Ideally I am talking thinks that would have as endgoal things like simulating a brain/ making a machine that thinks etc.
Bonus points if these projects are somehow not very known and carried on by small teams/startups.
If CS failed to simulate a scientific field how are they supposed to simulate a brain.
Generative modeling is the most exciting thing right now

also im looking for the train dilemma with the 1+2+3 people bunched up and then the -1/12 meme, anyone have that?
in addition to that, i'm look for the one with the same riemann zeta function continuation meme with someone asking whats practical in math, with someone answering with "someone in the street gives you 1 dollar and says they'll give u an extra dollar on top of that value the next day, and so on. a mathematician would know what he is trying to do - steal -1/12 dollars from you. theres a real life application"
/sci/ i don't usually go to this board. i heard a lot of great things about this nice board. please help a robot out. show me the path to righteousness. teach me your mad pussy slaying ways..... please....... T~T

If not even light can escape the event horizon of a black hole, how does gravity from the singularity escape its own even horizon to cause things to orbit and fall into it? Either gravity has to travel faster than light or black holes don't exist.

Gravitational waves propegate at the speed of sound, but the carrier of gravity doesnt interact with other gravitons

Just used calculus because it's easier than thinking.
It's trivial that it's symmetrical over each axis. Relevant equation is 5-sqrt(5^2 - (x-5)^2) from 0 to 5. So the answer is
[math]\displaystyle 4 \int_0^5 5-\sqrt{ 5^2 - \left ( x-5 \right ) ^2 } dx[/math] which is also trivial to solve, as you don't really need to evaluate the integral of that root as you can easily get the answer to it.
You end up getting -25(pi-4) which rounds to >>8701116
I really need a straight, correct answer on this.
Does 0.999 repeating equal one?
Does 1/3 equal 0.333 repeating infinitely?
Thank you. Picture unrelated.

In all honesty, how much do you think our species is capable of? Do you think we have the potential to make a perfect world for everyone? To become a Type 2 Civilization? To reach Andromeda? Or do you think we will destroy yourselves in the next 50 to 65 years?
>>8700649
none of the above
>>8700664
Then tell me what you think faggot
We have technology, but that is no substitute nor indicator of sophistication. We have not evolved psychologically since we were cavemen. Our driving forces are still hunger, fear and sex. It would require an enormous evolutionary leap for our species to evolve into one with differing prime motivators. The disconnect between the processes of natural selection and the environment being selected for, is too great. The only way such evolution would occur is if we had the optimal society, then those most suited, that is those naturally inclined towards that environment, would flourish, due to least expended effort, for the result that works, in that environment.
If you want a better society do this:
1. All drug addicts put in rehab from first sighting.
2. Ban subversive mass media.
3. Make it illegal for a corporation to own a corporation. (think about it, would revolutionize business, the tax structure and would make the market free again.)
4. Make it illegal for a corporation or a state to lend money. Only natural human beings would be allowed to do that, with loan brokers as intermediaries. Think about getting a mortgage as issuing bonds for people to buy.
5. Make it illegal for a corporation to own real estate.
6. Make it illegal for a corporation to own real-estate.
7 Make it illegal for an individual to own more than a set amount of real-estate.
8. Make it illegal to produce anything if not an equal amount of waste material of a comparable type is recycled into new raw material. (no cheating and melting plastics to build giant Lego blocks.. Hey! that gave me an idea.) I have to go now, have to make some calls.
Alright /Sci/ what's the real reason that we are having an abnormal warm winter here in the states?
Weather machines? Climate change? Literally no reason at all?
>>8700643
I watched world weather news for a couple of years.
Lots of warm records were being broken during the day times: but almost always the night time lows were above average.
In contrast, very few cold records were broken.
People moving rocks and trees to dam a river sure seem to be have a huge effect on the environment.
The deniers of climate change must be severely slow if they can't see their own gluttony and greed is having a negative effect on the environment, and multiply that by billions and we have a serious problem.
>>8700643
It really is because of climate change. I don't understand how anyone can deny it at this point when there are hundreds of publicly available scientific studies and journals that anyone can access at any time.

Interesting and could explain why Utah is number two in Alzheimer. Mormons don't drink alcohol or smoke tobacco. They don't even drink coffee. What they do a lot of is eat and drink sugar. Lots and lots of sugar.
Can you electrically stimulate your brain to enhance concentration, social skills, and other cognitive functions? Have any of you tried this? What are the side effects? Is it a horrible idea?
I'm a uni student who's super interested in this. You can literally try it with shit from around your house. http://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2014/05/19/312479753/hacking-the-brain-with-electricity-dont-try-this-at-home
No. Your brain does not run on electricity. It runs on chemical neurotransmitters.
>>8700376
But those chemical transmitters are primarily ions, which DO respond to electricity. Related subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/tDCS/

How do you think cities will look like in the future?
probably a lot like today just more futuristic
I know it won't happen, but futurist city planning was kinda neat.
Probably the most significant change in urban planning in the next decades would be lanes for self-driving cars only.
