Why does biology say that all life seeks to survive and replicate?

Humans do not replicate. No, not at all. Zero humans have ever replicated.

You see, "replication" means making a copy of yourself. In sexual reproduction, you are not making copies of yourself. You are tainting your masterful, perfect genes with the filthy trash genes of an inferior organism, what we often call "a woman". The kid that your disgusting wife gives birth to is not a copy of you. It is actually in no way related to you. Only around 50% of his gene pool comes from you. What kind of book do you get when you combine two books, taking half pages from yours and half pages from the other book? Correct. Not your book.

Your child is a total stranger. He is not you. Only you are you. Your child might as well be the child of Chad's or Tyrone's and you have absolutely no reason to love your child. Do you love me for example? I'm as close related to you as your child; aka "none at all".

The only true masterrace breeds with himself. Say no to sexual reproduction. Say yes to perfection and asexual reproduction with yourself.

When there was nothing in the universe there were no universal laws established. The law that says matter can't come from nothing didn't exist.

So from nothing came matter because nothing wasn't bound by univeral laws. Once matter existed it defined the law that matter could only come from matter.

Hello /sci/

Pic related is within walking distance of my house. As you probably know, it is an electricity pylon.

Theoretically, if i climbed it and touched the wire (if i even got that far) would it kill me instantly? I understand the fall afterwards would probably finish me off if i somehow survived but is there enough voltage/amperage in these things for an instantanious death?

Also, what sort of visible damage would it do to me? Would i look like a charred corpse?

I'm not entirely sure if touching it will kill you since they're well insulated. You would probably have to touch two with separate hands to complete a circuit with less resistance.

And yes, there is more than enough power to instantly kill you. As for visible damage, you'll be badly burned or partially liquefied depending on how long you hold on to the wires. If the force doesn't kick you away from the wires then you will definitely melt and glue yourself to the infrastructure.
>>

>You would probably have to touch two

or just be touching the pylon, and act as a ground.

If one was in space, hypothetically, without a space suit, would he freeze? There is no where for his heat to transfer to, so he wouldnt, right?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_radiation
>>
>>8698816
That's correct. He would eventually radiate away his body heat, but this would take a very long time, and if he were earth's distance from the sun, it's own radiation would pose a much larger threat to him. Greater even than that though is the lack of pressure, that would be what would kill you after a few minutes.
>>
>>8698816
>If one was in space, hypothetically, without a space suit, would he freeze?
Yes. Eventually, long after he died of asphyxiation, he would indeed freeze, in all likelihood. Heat would still radiate away, and with no ambient pressure to prevent it, any exposed moisture would immediately flash-vaporize, carrying heat away with it. Now, the sun would also irradiate and warm his body, and eventually his body would settle at some equillibrium temperature, but if he's near Earth, or further from the Sun than that, the equilibrium grey-body temperature will likely be well below freezing.

>>8698831
>radiation is a larger threat than hypothermia
No. Not even smack in the middle of the Van Allen Belt. Hypothermia can kill in minutes; even high doses of radiation poisoning take hours to even show symptoms, let alone to kill.

I had two Linear Algebra courses following this book, but know I'm kinda forgetting stuff so I want to study it again.

Should I use the same book or there's a better one?

Also, what's the best functional analysis book to begin with?

Hey /sci/, I'm trying to teach myself Algebra and I shit out a practice problem that I think is too much above my level. I'd like to have some advice on this. I'm VERY confused.

Alright, so I have this problem:
>solve for X: 5x - 2x^2 + 19 = 26 + x
Alright, so I first went ahead and worked on the right side, I subtracted an x so I'd have all the x terms on the left side.
>4x - 2x^2 + 19 = 26
And then, I subtracted 19 from both sides
>4x - 2x^2 = 7
And then, I realized I'm very close to the format that factoring quadratics is in, so I decided I could try and do the equation that way. I set the equation to 0 by subtracting 7 from both sides
>4x - 2x^2 -7 = 0
Then I moved it around
>-2x^2 + 4x -7 = 0
Now it's in the proper format for quadratic factoring, but here's where my problems started.
I have never factored something like this before.

So, I need to find two factors of -7 who's sum is 4 and product is -7.
Well, -7 is a prime so I can't do that. That's where I got completely stumped. I turned to Google, and I learned I had to use the Quadratic Formula.

Okay, so I tried it, and I just got even more confused.

The formula went smoothly.
A: -2
B: 4
C: -7
Alright, so
x = -4 +- the square root of 4^2 - 4 * -2 * -7 divided by 2 * -2... Simplified it all out:
>x = -4 + or - the square root of -56 divided by -4
I can't get the square root of -56 since its negative, so I got stopped again. This time for good.

I finally turned over to Wolfram and got the answer, which looks like fucking gibberish.
>x = 1 - i sqrt(5 / 2)
>x = 1 + i sqrt(5 / 2)
How the fuck did it get this? What is i?

Can someone tell me how the hell this works? Am I in way over my head right now? I'm so confused by what I just experienced, Should I just ignore it and go back to practicing problems I can do and eventually move up to being able to do it? I'm fucking lost as hell.

Some quadratics don't have real roots, namely those that have a negative discriminant. What wolfram gave you is the complex roots for your polynomial, where i=sqrt(-1)
>>
>>8697277
Oh.
Well fuck.

So what should I have done in this problem when I reached the "I can't get the square root of -56 since it's negative"
and why?

I keep looking over my work but I can't see a way out.

Is there a way to impartially assess if I'm literally retarded?
I'm 24 years old and I still browse this site. Is there like a test I can do to get a conclusive answer?

Yes, an IQ test. If you score 85 or lower, you are retarded. Unless you are black or other minority, in which case you are a good boy who didn't do nothing and should still apply to an Ivy league school.

>>8696887

I though that deciding to pay MENSA for an IQ test was the test itself.

I'm really excited /sci/. I'm a near highschool graduate (ending half of senior year) and recently the talk of debt and and college choice and scholarships are freaking me out. I've been forgetting why I want to go to college. But the recent announcement about Trappist 1 made me remember why I'm doing what I'm doing. I'm going in Astrophysics, and was recently accepted into RIT's Physics program and plan to go to grad school their for Astrophysics. The excitement and passion I felt when reading about Trappist 1 woke me up as to why I'm doing this, and it makes all the work and stress and debt worth it, if I could just be part of the group of people who find these planets and help Colonize and explore. Nothing really important ITT, I just remembered why I chose to pursue science

>Inb4 tidally locked shit hole
