Is there any truth to this?

I hope so, I'm probably going to die from that if not.

>Student has researh potential.
>Does research in colon cancer.
>Ergo he is destined to cure it.
It's a clickbait title because a title like "Minority student performs above average in research electives" would be boring.
Breakthroughs in medicine are not single man approaches. It is rather done by the accumulation of research that eventually culminates into something groundbreaking. People like creating heroes, so they usually over-emphasize a single individual as a god-send when it's rarely that simple.
Also, I wish the "cure for cancer" meme would die. Not only is cancer not a single homogenous entity, but we already have a cure for colon cancer. It's called surgery and quemotherapy. The treatment can unfortunately be limited by the progress of the disease, so different treatments for different stages might be necessary, and newer medication may offer a higher chance of remission than older medication, so research is indeed important. But the idea that cancer is incurable disease that can be solved by a single breakthrough is ignorant.
Would you like to participate in a Mars mission ?
No. It would be like living in a slightly more productive council home until you die.

>mission
Sure
>colony
Nope. I don't want no J•E•L•L•O B•A•B•I•E•S•!
Sure, I'll work cinematography for the ghost of Stanley Kubrick.

As in it has positive mass, but has been subject to conditions whereby it acts as if it has negative mass.

Can you use science to tell me which stock to buy for ~5 year investment?
>>8839171
Why buy stock when ETH is gonna moon?

I can't but financial institutions do use sophisticated mathematical modeling to make exactly those sorts of decisions. Their techniques are proprietary and some of the best minds in applied math fields are regularly recruited into the industry.
How do i learn math if i'm shit at arithmetic.
I know how to calculate all the things, just doing it out of my head takes ages and have to count few times.
I want to get up to Algebra before next year so i can learn computer science math.
Basically never "learned" math at young age and have to learn everything from the start which kinda sucks.
>>8839029
Just use a calculator for the arithmetic. Spending years practicing multiplication tables isn't actually worth it.
Khanacademy
>>8839052
yea no. Dont be one of those kids that can't answer basic questions because they dont know their multiplication table or can do long division.

Yaaawn
Engineer here, never had a cheat sheet for a test while in QM, even though it's a Midwest state school
Next
>>8838085
engineering must be pretty fucking hard
i wouldn't even be able to solve anything even with that sheet, i can't even understand any of it

Pluto may not be big enough to fit your definition of a planet; but she has big heart, which is arguably more important.
What are the best books to:

>Learn how to learn and how to study more effectively;
>Lose the fear of learning math

So we have been studying and designing hypersonic aircraft/spacecraft since the 1950's, why the hell don't we have even one functioning example yet? I want my 2 hour flight from LA to Tokyo suborbital passenger transport damnit!!!

Ignorant religious people discriminate against gays by saying that their "disease" can be cured.
Most of the people who support equal rights for LGBT people say that it's something you are just born with.
I am 100% in support of gay rights and all, but I can't help but wonder if there is actually any genetic evidence sexual preference. I mean, if it is something you are born with, it has to be genetic (i.e. not learned), and therefore hereditary. Is this true? Are there studies on this?
I just hate taking things at face value.

Don't know, and seeing how politicized this subject is research may not be impartial.
How pic related works?

The same as other ion drives but instead of xenon they use just photons which works the same way
It's not very efficient though, however it does have a virtually unlimited fuel supply

what would you like society to do about it? kill all the black people? mass sterilizations?
not going to happen.
Is that pic accurate?
To the degree that income is a proxy for IQ, it looks like the smartest blacks are about equal to the dumbest whites. But I just don't fucking believe it. I *refuse* to believe it. Nature would not be so cruel as to divide our abilities along genetic lines, that's just fucking insane. Nature is not that cruel. It fucking can't be.

We should implement something like that here
