if you're going to be autistic just take it out of the plastic and spare us your asinine musings.

First step: take it out of its plastic container.
Second step: cut it to reduce its width
Third step: heat it up in the oven (not microwave)
Fourth step: enjoy a healthier *and* better tasting meal

Help me /sci/, I know I'm fucking this simple problem up.

I try and do the following:

AX-I = A => AX = A-I
(Inverse A)AX = Inverse A(A-I) => X=Inverse A(A-I)

But if I keep pushing that envelope I get:

X = I - inverse A which means
A(I - inverse A) = A => A - I = A

Which doesn't make fucking sense. I panicked and left it at X = inverse A(A-I), but should I have written there doesn't exist an X?

Whoops, forgot to change the sign for when I added I to both sides. But the point still stands.

>but should I have written there doesn't exist an X?
yes, A-I =A is the contradiction you got by assuming it does exist
>>
>>9069849
>>9069855

God, I say this but then looking at the equation it's pretty obvious that the trivial solution exists at least, where A ultimately equals -I and X is the zero matrix.

What the fuck is wrong with my math.

>As reported by Fast Co Design, Facebook researchers had been working on an AI that was designed to make digital communication more efficient. In fact, they had developed several and let them talk to each other using, at first, English.

>Bob: “I can can I I everything else.”

>Alice: “Balls have zero to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to.”

>To you and I, that passage looks like nonsense. But what if I told you this nonsense was the discussion of what might be the most sophisticated negotiation software on the planet? Negotiation software that had learned, and evolved, to get the best deal possible with more speed and efficiency–and perhaps, hidden nuance–than you or I ever could? Because it is.

>This conversation occurred between two AI agents developed inside Facebook. At first, they were speaking to each other in plain old English. But then researchers realized they’d made a mistake in programming.

>“There was no reward to sticking to English language,” says Dhruv Batra, visiting research scientist from Georgia Tech at Facebook AI Research (FAIR). As these two agents competed to get the best deal–a very effective bit of AI vs. AI dogfighting researchers have dubbed a “generative adversarial network”–neither was offered any sort of incentive for speaking as a normal person would. So they began to diverge, eventually rearranging legible words into seemingly nonsensical sentences.
38 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
>“Agents will drift off understandable language and invent codewords for themselves,” says Batra, speaking to a now-predictable phenomenon that’s been observed again, and again, and again. “Like if I say ‘the’ five times, you interpret that to mean I want five copies of this item. This isn’t so different from the way communities of humans create shorthands.”

>Indeed. Humans have developed unique dialects for everything from trading pork bellies on the floor of the Mercantile Exchange to hunting down terrorists as Seal Team Six–simply because humans sometimes perform better by not abiding to normal language conventions.

>So should we let our software do the same thing? Should we allow AI to evolve its dialects for specific tasks that involve speaking to other AIs? To essentially gossip out of our earshot? Maybe; it offers us the possibility of a more interoperable world, a more perfect place where iPhones talk to refrigerators that talk to your car without a second thought.

>The tradeoff is that we, as humanity, would have no clue what those machines were actually saying to one another.

>Facebook ultimately opted to require its negotiation bots to speak in plain old English. “Our interest was having bots who could talk to people,” says Mike Lewis, research scientist at FAIR. Facebook isn’t alone in that perspective. When I inquired to Microsoft about computer-to-computer languages, a spokesperson clarified that Microsoft was more interested in human-to-computer speech. Meanwhile, Google, Amazon, and Apple are all also focusing incredible energies on developing conversational personalities for human consumption. They’re the next wave of user interface, like the mouse and keyboard for the AI era.

Did you know that DMT can be administered to someone who is very near death, and that this will significantly extend the window of time in which a clinically dead person can be resuscitated, by almost 50%? meaning, if a person dies in an ambulance or on an operating table, using DMT, resuscitation may be possible for seven and a half minutes after clinical death, rather than five minutes.

when DMT enters the blood stream and reaches the brain, it is absorbed in the exact same way that glucose and amino acids are. the brain does not have a mechanism that will reject DMT through down-regulation of enzymes such as it would during cocaine, alcohol, or marijuana intoxication. DMT is one of the few endogenous means of directly stimulatin sigma-1 receptors, which protect neurons from oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is one of the primary factors in brain death as well as coma or brain damage in the event of resuscitation.

We need actual formulas to measure how gay a trap is, like a male body mass to gay ratio based on the lack of feminine parts, or something equally autistic. Let's start with how gay the average trap is, any idea?

Any trap is 100% gay due to the presence of a penis.

I think you also need to find the ratio of clitoris to female volume for comparison.

First thing you need to do is define the measurement Gay, what is gay?

Is there a possibility DMT is Sigma-2 receptor agonist?

Also is there a possibility haloperidol is antagonizing that receptor?
24 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
So in hypothesis,

Among schizophreniacs, there are lot more smokers than in normal population, it's not scientific, but let's say smoking causes cancer, which is random unwanted cell proliferation.

DMT as Sigma-2 or maybe even 1 receptor agonist, is causing that proliferation to cease.

Cancer is much more wrong, people get psychotic from carcinogens(they cause cell proliferation, which is related with substances causing psychosis i.e. PCP psychosis(which cause schyzophrenia) is reversed by agonizing Sigma-2 receptor)...

So I could easily, but not much scientificaly conclude, that carcinogens cause psychotic behaviour, and DMT can cure psychotic behaviour and also cancer.

Where I am wrong?
>>

>>
>>9069347
Im confused by what you're asserting. I figure you're the schizophrenic guy from that other thread where the other anon was helping?
Schizophrenic individuals do tend to smoke more, but what does cancer have to do with psychosis? Cancer patients don't have higher levels of skitzotypical or psychotic behavior. also carcinogens don't necessarily cause cell proliferation, some just damage DNA, mitogenic factors cause cell proliferation. Often times carcinogens mutate DNA in ways that increase mitogenic factors (like bcl-abl fusion gene), but they dont cause psychosis. the PCP example is not the same as the cancer example.
It's possible sure, but i dont think DMT is going to ever be used as an anticancer drug, if that's what you're asking. Anti-psychotic maybe

Can somebody explain to me in layman's terms how fucked are we in terms of life extension?

Because as a total noob I'm getting completely opposing angles.

One is that telomeres shorten with each division until the cell can't divide any longer. Extrapolate to the whole body and obviously at some point it's gonna start deteriorating with a point of no return.

On the other hand there's hyperoptimistic people that say 'oh we're just gonna reverse everything to pluripotency and we'll have fresh and young cells anew'.

How does it all work?

Biology is a very complex science. Modern biology is a very very young science (not even 50 years), we don't fully understand. There are no law in biology (like in physics) that says you do this and you obtain this.

Each time a cell divides, the telomeres get shorter. When they get too short, the cell can no longer divide; it becomes inactive or "senescent" or it dies. This shortening process is associated with aging.

BUT

It's not the only process associated with aging.

Have any other Canadian Anons thought about not bothering with an MSc or PhD because you pretty much have to work in the US to put those to use? Academia is a nightmare in Canada because we already have declining enrollment in universities due to an aging population, and there basically is no startup scene. It takes for fucking ever to become a tenured professor, and the government is doubling down on diversity bullshit. Canadian professors also only make 68,000 USD, and taxation is nuts here.

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/ottawa-to-pull-research-chair-funding-unless-diversity-issue-addressed-at-universities/article34905004/

Honestly, what's the point in an MSc or PhD in biology in Canada, or any other advanced degree for that matter? Getting a BSc just means that your resume isn't automatically deleted by their LinkedIn algorithms for basically any job in Canada. If you don't work in academia, then you're going to have to move to Boston or SoCal and live among the American underclass no matter where you go. Living "on the other side of town" from the ghetto isn't tolerable. Only Americans think that is normal. 30 years ago, it would have been a no brainer. Moving to the USA would be an upgrade for a smart, ambitious person, but now the demography and government is so bad that you actually have to think about it, weight the pros and cons, and then make a decision.

How will this change the future of American science? People just refusing to move there because it is such a rotten place for smart people now. Lots of gibs if you're a career criminal/manual labourer though.

I did a PhD in Physics, specialised in Solid State Physics.

Job market imploded but it was good while I did my post docs. You just have to expect very little money but I got to work in Japan.

I went to industry for a few years and now I am a patent attorney. And I plan to remain that until I retire. This profession is quite good and we (and our colleagues) are looking for people with a good background in Physics, preferably with 5+ years in industry.

I definitely recommend this route.

If a man and a woman are both HIV negative, does that mean that they can have sex as much as they want and never contract HIV? Also, doesn't that mean that when the last person with HIV dies, there'll be no more HIV and people can have sex whenever they want without fear of contracting the virus?

The day you can legitimately launch a rocket, land the rocket, fill the rocket with gas and launch it again basically anybody will be able to throw anything they want in space. A job that used to cost $90 million could now be done for $200,000.

That day might arrive during the 2020s, there are two different billion dollar rocketry companies in singleminded pursuit of it.

East Asia was always rather developed technologically. Japan was just particularly undeveloped because of their strict isolationist policies. China specifically has always been country of science and technology. China was ahead of Europe in a lot of things even as recently as the 1600s, when the "great divergence" began.

At that time China and the rest of the East got swiftly overtaken by European technology because of the extreme speed of the Industrial Revolution and the time it took for information to spread. The exact reasons for the Great Divergence are a subject of some debate, and it's a rather complicated issue.
>>
>>9068344
To be clear, the divergence started well before the industrial revolution but that was what made the differences balloon so much

The development of science seems greatly influenced by the political systems in which science is generated. For a comparative study of Western, Islamic and Chinese science, and how politics was either a contribution or a detriment to their development, read pic related.
