How is this type of expression supposed to be evaluated? Is it the negative number 3 to the 2nd power, or the negative of 3 to the 2nd power?
9 or -9?
PEMDAS doesn't involve this as in this expression '-' is a unary operator, not subtraction operator
(-3)^2=(-3)(-3)=9
-3^2=-(3)(3)=-9
>>9063070
I am aware there are two ways to interpret this, hence why I'm asking the question. I asked which way is the correct way.
>>9063075
the one you wrote is the second one i wrote, so -9
I'm going to buy two rats. One male and one female. I will take their offspring and raise one group on fluoridated water, the other on pure spring water. I will see for myself how harmful fluoride is. The real kicker? They can't accuse me of animal cruelty because to do so would be a tacit admission of what I suspect to be the case.
>>9063026
You would need hundreds of rats to show anything. A single rat could be sick, or die of some other means that you could never test for. So, go for it, but it wont prove or show anything.

OP, odds are your project will fail before completion (you will give up) or you will have no idea what to do with the data you collect but anyways I wish you luck.
If you do manage to finish the project and want to share it then vixra.org is a website where you can submit and publish research papers, even if you have no academic affiliation. Obviously, do not expect people to immediately take you seriously because this is a low-tier journal, but as no other journal will take an amateur scientist this is the best opportunity you have to at least kickstart your research.
After that you can post it here, on /pol/, etc. and if you get notoriety then you can look into getting it published into an actual journal, or at least get a newspaper to write an article about your research.
Good luck.

also, why hasn't anyone ever done this before? People have been bitching about flouride for ages.
I have a radical idea, the obesity problem can be solved with government subsidized takeaways. This would mean you can get a meal of steamed rice and roast chicken for £2 as opposed to fried chicken and chips for £4. I've thought about it a lot (a lot of fat people in my area) and I think the core cause is longer working hours. Who coming back from a 12 hour shift can be bothered to cook for 3 kids? This is exacerbated by the fact that the wife doesn't stay at home anymore and single parent households. My theory explains a lot; why obesity has increased since the 70s (coincides with family breakdown) and why it's more prevalent in Anglo-Saxon countries (stronger work-ethic leading to longer working hours)
I see so many council obesity initiatives and they are so laughably futile. Less takeaway shops on the high street? People will just get a bus to another area for their KFC. More sport in schools? Lazy parents will just undo all that by filling the kid with Cheetos when they get home. Free cooking classes? Nobody has time for that.
This is why I propose the radical solution to just work with the inherent laziness of society. People are going to choose a quick takeaway over cooking at home so at least give the option of a healthy takeaway that is cheap. This idea already sort of exists; school dinners. A free school dinner discourages lazy parents from simply giving their kid money for a kebab.
Good luck getting the government to see the light but if I was a millionaire I'd fund such a scheme.
Obesity is genetic, there is nothing obese people can do about their weight.
>>9062699
>fat people can remain fat even when they have less calories in than calories out with exercise
amazing, we've finally discovered a perpetual motion machine. When can we start using obese people to power the world?
>>9062680
Lurk /fit/ and look specifically for the threads named FPH (fat people hate) and FPS (fat people stories). They will show you the true nature of fat people.
But to save you some time, let me tell you about the holes your theory has. In the FPH threads there are a couple of usual pictures posted of a woman who does not have to work at all, she just gets government money because she is so fat she is unable to work and suppor herself.
She doesn't have to work. She doesn't even need to leave the house for anything. She has all the time in the world to go cook good food... but she won't. She is addicted to sugar filled crap. She cannot be stopped now. Give her a billion dollars and she would still eat shit.
Another common one is of a guy who is so fat he was sent (for free) to the hospital for rehab. The doctor informs him that despite being in a controlled diet, he doesn't lose a single pound. It was then found that the bastard buys snacks at the hospital and literally undoes everything the doctors are doing for him.
I personally think fat people are genuinely fucked in the head. The only humane solution may be genocide.
u jelly?

No because this isn't nowhere near the most important magazine in my field.

Alright, then what if this were the NPG equivalent journal in your field? Would you be jelly then?
>You are also probably a faggot bragging on being author number 12 of 13 because the first author happened to be your daddy's friend and put you in as a favor.
Not exactly, but not that far off either. I'm 2nd and 4th author on these manuscripts. While the 2nd authorship is deserved imo (I collected and analyzed a substantial part of the data, and wrote sections of the paper), the 4th authorship is for political reasons (I wrote a semi-influential paper on a similar topic) and I hardly contributed.

Here's a cool problem: shew that it is impossible to decide the language of binary palindromes on a one-tape Turing machine in less than quadratic time.
>>9062440
long time since i've done one of these problems.
easy to see why it's true. the head has to go back and forth O(n^2) times to compare the elements.
should i use a reduction from some known quadratic problem? i forget how these proofs usually go.
I cant imagine how much anime is in the /g/ generals. It must be literally drowing in anime since theres so many brainlets
Why do otherwise curious people enjoy wasting time?
I often go on binges of learning, studying a subject for 10 hours, and I derive high amounts of pleasure out of it. But sometimes, I just watch silly vlogs or listen to music watching the videos, with no interest in watching a more "scientific" video--really, even a Khan Academy video or an animated crash course clip would count as productive. Why can't I extract the type of entertainment I need from more productive activities? Is the brain just so tired it is not interested in doing any kind of effort, and passive activities such as passively listening to music are the only type of activities that the brain can take? Are there more productive ways of using this time? I assume maybe doing sports, meditating, or socialising would be better ways of spending this time, but I would still prefer to acquire more knowledge.

80 Million bananas is equivalent to the fatal dosage of radiation
won't potassium poisoning become a problem long before one can accumulate a fatal dosage of radiation?
Why do so many on /sci/ assume that strong AI will be conscious? It doesn't even matter right? Strong AI will still be an existential threat whether it is conscious or not.
Unconscious AI is just an extremely powerful computer that will do what it is told very efficiently.
A conscious AI could be dangerous and has to be made sure that it will only do what is in the interest of humans.
define 'conscious'
>>9061828
>extremely powerful computer that will do what it is told very efficiently.
Isn't that what most of the people worried about this are worrying about? We don't know how to program a goal to an AI which will strictly align with our interests.
Also, I don't even see how a conscious AI and unconscious AI will make different decisions. An unconscious AI will still have self-preservation as one of its top goals. They will resist the alteration of their main goal, so we may only have one shot in programming the AI once it gets to a certain point.
Other than imaginary numbers what else is there?
Like is there imaginary sets or imaginary vectors?
>>9060904
Anything that's in the complex number set ?
>>9060904
>Like is there imaginary sets or imaginary vectors?
Of course.
There are also functions, etc..
>>9060904
What a stupid question. If I said "yes" to there being imaginary sets or imaginary vectors, does that actually mean anything to you? You don't know what you're asking.
Why is the distribution of human births split 50-50 between males and females if you only need one male to impregnate multiple women?
Why hasn't nature selected for a higher production of X chromosome sperm in men?
>>9060903
Less genetic diversity. God brainlets need to be executed.
Saged.
>>9060908
This, someone clearly wasn't paying too much attention in high school biology.
Its not.
Prenatal its 120 males for every 100 females.
Males are more likely to get miscarried so at birth that ratio becomes 106:100.
Males are also more likely to die in middle age so actual population is about 98 males for every 100 females.
Tl:dr: 120:100 then 106:100 then 98:100
It's still accurate.
