Why hasn't evolution made it so there would be like a trigger warning. Like for example, you know how you can hover over a thumbnail and get to see a fraction of the video or play an mp3 sample before purchase to give you an idea.

Okay I recently completed a PhD in mathematics (analytic number theory), while I enjoy the subject, it often feels so far removed from reality that I often feel cravings to study another subject other than (pure) math just for fun. Anyone know this feel?

What sort of subjects do you learn / study apart from your main subject (doesn't have to be math)? Because I focussed largely on pure topics during college years, I'm currently going through a book on general relativity but I also want some less related to math.

I've considered neuroscience and cognitive science types. Maybe even linguistics? What sort of stuff do you read?

I'm very much into mathematics that fit under the umbrella of 'discrete mathematics' (think graph theory, combinatorics, logic, etc) and want to specialize in algorithms (potentially graph related algorithms). I'm also interested in linear algebra, algebra and their connections to category theory. Eventually I would like to better understand homotopy type theory (I think this is the direction my studies are leading me down long term).

On the side for "fun" I started getting into deep learning and programming. I'm starting to pursue it in parallel to my more pure math studies. I want to better understand deep learning. All I do is theorems-proofs. I never create anything "real" or produce anything tangible people can see. I want to shake that up a bit and start doing deep learning projects on the side for fun. Mostly just to "learn" how things work.

I also am starting to get into functional programming and software development. I want to learn how to do "data engineering" stuff to connect all the pipes to pipes for the data science/big data. Depending on how much I like ML I could see myself getting into both "data engineering" and a "machine learning" role.

My interest has always aligned with theory more than anything practical, so even if I approach a practical subject I always approach it from a theoretical pov to have solid foundations.

How do I go about proving that a graph with order n and minimum degree (n-2) has connectivity (n-2) as well?

I mean I know, intuitively that if I delete a certain number of vertices and end up with 2 or more components, then each component must contain a vertex u that had degree n-2 in the initial graph, and one other component must contain the one vertex v that wasn't it his neighbourhood. And since these two vertices have the same neighborhood with n-2 vertices, you'd have to delete all of them for there not to exist a path between u and v.
However this seems far fetched and I don't really know how to write the first part formally.
Is there a simpler proof I'm missing? The exercise is literally at the beginning of the book and all the proofs seem much easier.

The connectivity is a measure of how many EDGES at minimum must be removed to render the graph disconnected.

The minimum degree of n-2 tells you that every connected component has connectivity n-2

All you have to do is prove that it is 1 component to begin with.

I should have specified, the book uses the definition of "vertex connectivity" as in the minimum size of a vertex cut set.
But yeah I've seen there are two nonequivalent definitions floating around. That's weird.

I live in an areally with a lot of loud parties nearby. What music should I listen to while studying so as to improve focus while drowning out the noise?

I'm under the impression that listening to anything is worse than silence. Essentially anything you use any mental energy on is a distraction. If you want to stick to that theory headphones and white noise, eventually you will forget it's there.
You could also use one of those online rain/storm sound generators. It accomplishes the same thing and is much more pleasant.
That said, I tend to listen to ambient video game music. Specifically the No Man Sky soundtrack. I'd recommend anything you like without singing though. Or just music you've heard a thousand times already and can mentally tune out. The key is for you to not listen, as odd as that sounds, so if it gets you into the mood to study, and is easy to tune out, it's good.

In theory, is it possible to inject human skin with genetically modified chlorophyll cells, or GMO algae we could form a symbiosis with? That would give us - at least a rudimentary ability to photosynthesize?
Similar how pic related slug uses algae it eats to turn green and have the ability to photosynthesize.

As a side note I recognize we'd turn moderately green after this procedure, but I mean, it'd look pretty rad. It could be a symbol of our connection to this planet. Plus, less reliance on food, would be a really neat thing too.

Lets be generous and say that you're naked and your entire body is in sunlight, somehow. That's 1.9*120 for the watts over 24 hours (228 watts), so with our 10 percent efficiency we get 22.8 watts of energy in a whole day.

That's less than 6 calories. You can get that much energy at once by eating a single stick of celery. Or just eat a Snickers bar and get 10 times as much energy
