Why havn't we simulated our own pocket universe then ?

Even if universe.exe was programmed by super genius ayylmao there's still the possibility of some minor programming bug like a Euler exception creeping in. Especially if paradoxes like the Halting Problem apply on the higher universes making it impossible to perfectly debug everything

Hey there /sci/, whats up? I am not sure if this is the right place to post such a thing, but does anyone here get really angry whenever they see science denial? Especially when I browse boards like /pol/, for example.

>>

For example, on /pol/ I do not care about anything really, but I get triggered whenever someone denies basic science. Anyone else is like this?
>>
>>9076162
Yes. Things that enrage me particularly are:
>Flat Earth
>Climate change denial
>IQ/IQ variability denial
>HIV denial
>Vaccionation/autism link
>Evolution denial
>Young Earth hypothesis
>Medicine denial/alternative/traditional medicine
>Parapsychology
>UFOlogy/Cryptozoology
>Mysticism (souls, Gods, fatalism etc.)
>Conspiracy theories
>Genocide denial
>Naive conceptions of hypnosis

And I could go on and on.

The words thing is how widespread those believes are. Good thing is that I'm antisocial and don't share societal values, otherwise I would believe unbelievable amount of bullshit that gets passed on every day.

Theoretically can I suffocate the bacteria on my teeth by holding water in my mouth for a long time?

The bacteria in your mouth are anaerobic, so no.
You can kill them by mouthbreathing like the retard you are, though.
>>

I'm not OP but please do not make fun of mouthbreathing. I was born with many allergies and sometimes I have no other option but to breath from my mouth because either I do not have the medicine at the time, or I took it the pills take time to have full efect on my nose. I don't do it because I want to. You are being an asshole right now.

The practices in the manual also help one to gain higher happiness and satisfaction regardless of one's external circumstances.

Also you may be lacking thiamine and niacin in your diet if you're feeling depressed. A fruit smoothie with a moderate amount of spinach daily should ameliorate your depressive-status. It works for me, though I do lack the amount of sunshine and outdoor-time necessary to maintain a constant state of elation and contentedness.

Exercise can increase IQ btw, cardiovascular exercise. Cardio also helps to wipe out depression in victims.

Just do what makes you happy, mane. A PhD won't make you necessarily happier, but if you'd like t incorporate the attainment of one into a happiness-inducing lifestyle, then by all means bro

In my opinion there are two ways to interpret this and neither is satisfactory for your side:

First way: Dijkstra is inorganically agrandizing his own achievements in computer science a la Wolfram, which just makes him an asshole because from this perspective, his statement lacks taste and maturity. Therefore, this makes you someone who supports assholes and this does not reflect well on you or Dijkstra

Second way (and I'm quoting someone else here): As he one mentioned how debugging a program cannot prove that it program works, only that it doesn't perhaps he is alluding to the fact that in an applying setting being able to prove that your results are correct is much harder compared to how things are proven in mathematics. In mathematics most of the time proof is trivial. If you read a proof and cannot find a single mistake, then it is right, literally by definition. Computer scientists (or at least computer scientists like Dijkstra, if you are a lowly code monkey then please do not compare to him) do not have this luxury.

And if we assume this is what he meant then again this reflects badly on you because you are weaponizing what is merely a harmless comment and that makes you pretty retarded.

How does one measure IQ of an animal?
22 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
One does not.
>>
There is an entire Wikipedia article on animal cognition.
>>
>>9075375
A very basic method was to use a mirror, and check to see if the animal recognises itself (or looks for marked areas in a blind spot), and so proves that it has an understanding of its own existence.
This can be invalidated by the cultural limitations of the animal though, as gorillas almost always fail because looking at another one in the eyes is seen as extremely aggressive, preventing an otherwise intelligent animal from being able to recognise its reflection. The one exception that I know about was a gorilla that was raised by humans and had no prior gorilla contact.

In 200 B.C. Eratosthenes showed that the earth is round and calculated it's circumference by means of an experiment. However:
How did Eratosthenes know that b) was the case and not a)?
I tried looking it up, the two answers I found were basically:
>they already suspected that the earth was round
or
>it was common knowledge at the time that the sun's rays that hit earth are (roughly) parallel

If the first, how could they argue against a), if the second, how did they know that?

>>
>>9075357
>if the second, how did they know that?

That can be observed from anything that emits light. But you are right at some level. Technically they could not have been 100% sure because they had shit lighting like fires unlike the controlled lighting we have today.

This is simply a case of a genius' intuition saving the day. They had no way of 100% knowing that the rays were parallel but as Erastosthenes wasn't a fucking brainlet he knew exactly what was happening.

If your IQ is less than 160 you may not comprehend this notion of intuition but trust me, it works.
>>
>>9075376
>trust me, it works
I thought this was /sci/ desu
>That can be observed from anything that emits light
... but the rays aren't parallel, no? They only appear that way because of how far away the sun is. So basically the question is, how did he know the sun was so far away?

Is there any reality to powdered mono atomic gold? Is it even theoretically possible? Has there ever been any legit scientific study done on it?

Specialization as general knowledge is very impractical (why bother learning something that isn't relevant?)
>>
>>9075068
A good balance is best. Too general and you basically don't know anything, too specialised and you are useless outside of a specific context and you can't use unrelated knowledge to help with that context either, as you have none.
>>
>>9075068
What if the one thing you specialize at is generalizing?

(Joking aside)

We live in a world of redundant generalizers.
Wouldn't the human capabilities as an entire species be maximized if everyone specialized at different things?
