That's basic algebra properties.
Tips:

Are we talking about the same thing? I;'m talking about those idiot YouTube videos that show some basement dweller claiming to have create half-human half-somethiung-else life in his basement by jizzing in a petri dish or something.

To my knowledge, nobody has done a study to demonstrate that every case of this is nonsense. Just the general fact of it being nonsensical is sufficient.

Controls motor function to optimize chances of survival and reproduction.

Depending on your definition of brain, you could also throw some hormone regulation in there as well.

Why is there no lightning and thunder during the cold period of the year (autumn and winter)?
21 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
Thunderstorms need convective instability large enough to separate charge in the clouds. A couple hundred Joules per kilogram of Convective Available Potential Energy (CAPE) can do it. Moisture is the biggest contributor to CAPE. In the warm season, the absolute amount of moisture in the atmosphere is generally about 10 times higher than in winter due to warmer air being able to hold more moisture. If you’re near the Gulf of Mexico, thunderstorms aren’t so rare during the winter because sufficient moisture is nearby and the air doesn’t stay particularly cold for long periods of time.

Convective instability does exist sometimes in snowstorms, but it is within an elevated layer and the CAPE is rarely more than a couple hundred J/kg. It’s less clear how charge separation for lightning works in a snowstorm given the lack of graupel and hail to accumulate negative charge, but large snowflakes could carry the negative charge while ice crystals from broken snowflakes and from the freezing of supercooled water carry the positive charge.
>>
>>9083434
How come there are a lot of thunderstorms in places like Nebraska where there aren't any large bodies of water nearby?
>>
>>9083436
It's not like Nebraska is a desert. There's plenty of moisture in the air.

>Piggyback diamond cargo on returning ISS crew capsules (for safety)
>Sell samples to scientific community to cover mission costs

>Estimated Sale Price: $100,000+ for each 10k rough diamond

>Continue using leftover equipment to produce basic fuels and oxidizers to sell in LEO for ~$10k per kilo.
The same could be done with any precious metals found on asteroids, as long as care is taken to not oversaturate the (rather tiny) market for "space luxuries".
The infrastructure set up for the initial "space gold rush" can eventually be used to bootstrap more self-sustaining space industries.
19 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Fuck earth money. If you've got the infrastructure to be in space enough to mine asteroids you're using the material to build habitats. There's no commodity market on earth that'd survive the essentially infinite amount of resources you can throw at it. As the leading resource miner and habitat constructor you can basically dictate terms to anyone that wants to be in space.

Lmao this dude thinks diamonds are valuable
>>

Flooding the market with diamonds will make them worthless.

Cheap but useful metals would be better.
But would have to be very large volumes...

This board is not for figuring out your career path. It says so right up there in the sticky.

If you can't read, or don't understand simple English sentences, then your IQ is not enough to study chemistry.

All the (patentable and profitable, non-self-market-destroying) low hanging fruit have been plucked. There's still a decent amount to be done, but it's a diminishing field.

And besides, I've become relatively convinced nature, after a massive number of iterations, has already traced out the solutions to most of our problems. We just refuse to use them. Take carvacrol, from oregano, thyme, etc. Potent antibiotic, eliminates even the most resistant MRSA strains, and many don't seem to have the means or machinery to develop any effective resistance. There is a reason oregano resists pests, bacterial colonization, and fungal growth. Carvacrol significantly improves post stroke outcomes via acting as a potent ROS scavenger, and mild VGCC blocker. Etc. Many other culinary herbs have similar active monoterpenes as well. Wormwood's history and ability to treat malaria and parasite infestation is well known. Mucuna pruiens used in place of L-DOPA alone for parkinsons not only works better, but does not produce tardive dyskinesia. Likely because it's full of gluthionine and some other shit.

List goes on and on. Plants are not magic. They require a means to exist and survive, like any other organism. They're composed of, and target, the same low level machinery we do. And they get results. Comparatively with synthetic drug design, we don't. We get side effects and variable outcomes.
>>
>>9082844
We don't just "refuse" to use them.
Pharma companies are under so much financial pressure they'd do everything to develop any viable drug, and if drugs from plants aren't used that much it's for good reasons.

Oh and for the synthetic causing side effects I'd argue the opposite : we can create synthetic drugs and refine them to enhance them and make them behave exactly how we want. The plant based drug however won't go through this process, and if it is "naturally engineered" it's not in order to be an effective and safe drug for human use.
Plus I'd think that in practice it's the opposite. How many synthetic cardiac drugs have side effects as big as digoxin ? Why would most people rather get high on LSD, MDMA or adderall instead of datura, salvia or LSA ?

The thing about exams is that they are always the same to everyone who are taking them. Therefore, when you get a low score, you can't cry "it's not fair! Stupid professor!". Instead you should admit that you are just shit and should git gud.

>>
>>9082686
I'm not disputing it. Is it still the accepted model of how humans cause climate change?
>>
>>9082688
kind of, yeah. Most people who don't believe in "climate change" as caused by humans view the greenhouse effect as an inevitable extreme of the planet's natural cycles, which we have little effect on.

I haven't really made up my mind one way or the other, but from what I understand, only idiots try to say the greenhouse effect is debunked. it's just whether or not we're causing it that's the issue

What is it, that engineers actually do?? Serious question, all of the electrical engineers I've met believe in immediate and widespread solar for America (lol)

Car engines are all ancient designs, so are the chassis's etc (Google Volkswagen modular chassis)

Aircraft are f35 tier, as in total jokes. Money raising jokes, not; 'lets build a fucking sick jet with lasers and extra guns'

The mechanical believe in Prius cars being a good idea, again.. wtf.

And the last civil engineer I met basically project managed in construction. No design, no innovation, no nothing. Seriously, you could just learn that shit on the job.

Half of the degrees also seem like complete memes, such as Environmental Engineering and Aerospace.

This isn't even getting to the tons of engineers who live in the middle of nowhere and basically act as a floor manager in a factory, or just draw pipe/pump schematics all day.

And working in an office has got to be one of the most monotonous, soul-crushing experiences in life.

Seriously, it seems like engineering and most engineering jobs are total trash. Did engineering undergrad for a while, so glad I became applied math master race.

I'm a field civil engineer with my uncle's firm. I count studs and make sure the foreman mixes the correct proportions of gravel and sand. I don't even care I make $50k a year. Job fulfillment is a meme most engineering jobs are basically sinecure positions.

I was always under the impression that they were pure pseudo science, but recently I've heard different.

Why do or don't we think they exist?
What effects would they have?
What would they look like?
Do or don't we want them to exist?
Et cetera.
