How do I cure my bisexuality? I want to stop being aroused by traps and shit like that. For god's sake there's got to be something, and it's not like Jewgle's going to give me the answer

It just seems so much more likely that people are remembering incorrectly. Just look at the differences, they're so small. I would give it some credibility if there was a major discrepancy between the realities which can't be explained by you just remembering incorrectly.

It was brought up in another thread the possibility of a reading group for everyone /math/ here, be it a paper or textbook that we can discuss together. Several anons showed interest in the idea, including myself, so I took the liberty of making this thread to collect suggestions/input from interested anons.

Does it have to be a textbook/academic paper? I know some math books wouldn't necessarily count as either of the two, but are still rather interesting. I'm currently reading a book about geometry and combinatorics. Any other anons interested?

>>
We would also have to determine when to meet to discuss I suppose. A thread every Saturday morning perhaps, so Euro anons can just check the catalog? Obviously cost wouldn't be an issue thanks to lib gen. Whatever we read would obviously be reached via consensus in the thread.

Lets say you deigned a nanomachine that basically recycles your own cells and transforms them in to much superior immortal synthetic cells.
These cells also work perfectly whit existing regular cells so they cause no issues and if you lets say replaced your arms or legs using this you would feel no difference.
But you would have potentially perfect legs that never have muscle atrophy atrophy and maybe even let you preform feats impossible by a normal human.
Now lets say these cells can essentially replace all the cells in your body giving you near immortality and immunity to diseases and serious permanent injury.

Now here comes the complicated part.
Lets say the nanomachines can replace your biological brain.
They do it slowly once cell at a time.
Each time it replaces a cell you may forget something for a single moment but then remember it the next as the machines work.
You can stay awake thru the entire process.

The question is. Is your mind still your own or is it a perfect copy of your old mind.
Lets say each time the machine deletes a cell in your brain you forget something g but once it is reformed in to a immortal biosinthetick cell you now remember it as if you never forgot it in the first place.
Also keep in mind this is not a sudden copy paste process.
Like you dont cease to exist in one moment and then a new you emerges who may or may not be you [Based on the coin flip principle]
At no moment did 2 exact copies of your entire mind exist.

Are you now dead and this thing is just a perfect copy of you.
Or is this new creature/thing still you and not a copy.

ship of theseus.
you are the original human with replaced parts.
if you assembled the original pieces then you get a different copy of you made of the original parts.

as long as maintains its processes while getting replacement parts, its the same thing.

faggot
>>
This is just the Ship of Theseus problem.

What's funny is that this already happens to you with living cells. Every single cell in your body is replaced with a different one every 7 years or so, so you're not even the same person you were 7 years ago.

Anyway here are some proposed solutions.

Why hasn't a better theory replaced General Relativity yet?
My suspicion is that too many of Einstein's disciples are still alive.
As current human knowledge branches further and further, and more papers are published by the day, the divisions within the scientific community only make it more difficult to revert the catastrophe that Einstein was to Science.

Why are scientists so hopeful of finding life in the universe? Especially intelligent life. Do they not realize that life leads to immense suffering? Once sentience evolves, you just have animals capable of feeling pain running around eating each other, and dying of diseases.
40 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>9082689
To reach the point of human intelligence takes hundreds of millions of years of evolution. Which means countless feeling organisms die horribly. And human intelligence is likely a rare thing that happened due to very specific cicrumstances. Most life is dumb and survives just fine, intelligence isn't needed.

>"Aliens aren't real"

How is this still a position in 2017?

It's about equivalent to flat earth in legitimacy.

Aliens are definitely fucking out there, if you don't believe there is life somewhere away from Earth then it is safe to conclude that you are skeptic for the sake of being edgy and are refusing to educate yourself on concepts that you cannot understand.

Saying that alien life has visited Earth, and hell even groomed our civilisations or that we will have some sort of "Contact Doomsday" scenario is pretty retarded. I'd even go as far to say hat believing in Drake's equation that supposedly proves that there are at least 50 sentient alien races that communicate with each other is a bit on the retarded "I want to believe" side without any further evidence (even if it is true). For fuck's sake, it isn't even too stupid to say, "Aliens are out there, but we're the smartest/none of them are sentient," due to the Fermi paradox.

Here's a thought: Our radio signals.
Humanity's radio signals reach out about 100 light years (definitely a little less, but the exact number fails to come to mind) and we've always said that that's too short for an alien to pick up on us due to the proximity of other stars.

But how come we can't hear the radio signals of old advanced alien civilisations? Maybe ours only go out about 100 light years because they've only been around for that long, but if there is an alien race with the equipment where jumping from star to star doesn't take thousands of years and isn't impractical, they've likely been around for a very long time. Thus, we should be able to constantly pick up on their thousands of years old radio chatter from before they ever even took to space. Issue is, we don't. Why not?

We don't know the conditions or range of abiogenesis and we have no evidence that any instance of it exists outside of our own.

For now, the answer is "unknown", with no valid indicators for or against. Resolutely believing they do not exist and resolutely believing that they do, are equally retarded and unscientific.

Somebody please explain to me the neurochemical and and/or psychological aspects of depression, please.

I just finished Stains;Gate 3 days ago, and it caused me to fall into a deep depression.

It is comparable to my first big breakup irl.

I just can not get over this feeling.
It feels empty.
I feel like bursting into tears all of the sudden.

I relate a lot with okabe, I'm practically him down to the childish attitude.
Kurisu is exactly how I picture my ideal partner.
Si, I guess I see myself in the anime, and I feel like I ended up in the wrong "worldline", and there is no coming back...

I found myself plying the saddest songs from silent hill...
And crying to sleep last night, then I woke up at 2:30 am and couldn't fall asleep..

I already asked for help at my University's mental health service, but unless I'm literally suicidal, won't see me until the 10'th...

/adv/ can't help

And yes, I'm that Kurisu poster...

Steins;Gate is one of my favorite anime of all time OP. Watched that shit as it aired.

I don't know how much this will help, but I'm kind of in the same boat as you. Except there's a real girl involved. Basically I formed an extremely close relationship with my friend's sister over several months and ended up falling in love. When it came apparent that it wouldn't work out and she found someone else, I tried to avoid her until she came to a party I was at. Once I made it clear how I actually felt, she got upset herself and broke down crying. We met up last month to discuss things, but I couldn't get a clear answer about how she felt. Then at the end of the night, my sadness hit me like a truck and after embracing her for a bit, I moved in for a kiss without realizing it, pulled away. And then ran aimlessly in the pouring rain for an hour.

The only solution I could think of after that was to just tell her we should hold off for a month before talking and holy fuck I have never felt emptier in my life. She was one of the few people in my life that ever made me feel that someone else was there, and I fucking ruined it.

So, to address your feelings. There is no ideal partner. There's girls you groove with and girls you don't. Once you find a girl you like, ask her to hang out. If you two groove together it will just naturally progress. The point of Steins;Gate, especially the ending, is that the idea of a set destiny is bullshit and that with enough determination and hard work, you can cheat destiny.

Why is science so hell bent on tearing down the human experience while at the same time furthering it?

>Feelings are nothing but chemicals
>Memories aren't actually visualized in your mind
>No such thing as the self, soul isn't real
>No afterlife

What the fuck is the point of being safe from disease or going to space if the main claim of science is that you mean nothing?

You might as well say "The Mona Lisa is nothing but a painting", or "filet mignon is nothing but food" or "the ISS nothing but a box".
Look up protein folding.
You really shouldn't trivialize stuff, Opie, but dismissing something because it's "just chemicals" is the height of retardation.
You'll fly too close to the sun of full-retard and the wax will melt and you'll fall to your demise.
