Was calculus hard at first? If so how did you get better? If it was easy describe how your mind works.

Its not hard just taught like shit in HS. If you do everything rigourously and dont skip steps in teaching it it might be tedious at times but not hard

learn calculus along side intro physics (kinematics, mechanics) and you'll be able to make intuitive sense of what you are learning. it will be more engaging and memorable too.

I have ADHD-PI so I apply occam's razor heavily and try to go straight to the point

Okay sci, so which one is it?

Pop-science and the internet generally cant seem to agree on why light in a black hole cant escape.

I some say its because space is "stretching" out faster than the speed of light so the light can never reach.
Wouldn't the solution to "ant on a rubber rope" problem apply here? This doesn't seem to be the answer to me.

The most common answer seems to be that the geometry inside the black hole is so curved that any light going out, would simply curve back down before it could escape the event horizon. And this doesn't really make sense to me. Since gravity doesn't affect the lights momentum, how is the same path the light used to get in, not valid in both directions? Anything that is slowed by gravity, sure, it will always curve back. but light should be able to travel both directions along a path since its velocity doesn't change.

The last thing I heard a couple times is that the light can travel back out, but it is red-shifted into a undetectable state by the time it crosses the event horizon. This seems like a pretty good answer, but doesn't this violate conservation of energy? The light should be blue-shifted the same amount when its going in as its going out, right?. But I guess it has to lose some of that energy to something?

Show me you are actually smarter than pop-sci, genuinely been to get a decent answer from google, but can't get agreement.

Beyond the event horizon, "outward" is not a direction.

Orbital mechanics son. This is newton level shit. Gravity is so string that the escape velocity is beyond the speed of light.

>I some say its because space is "stretching" out faster than the speed of light so the light can never reach.
No. Space is indeed stretching, but it's the whole universe. Eventually space will receding so fast the light of the furthest stars will never reach us.
>>
>>9083009
This is the pop sci stuff i heard many times, but does there really exist any geometry where vectors only have one direction?

>>9083013
>This is newton level shit. Gravity is so string that the escape velocity is beyond the speed of light.
Oh gravity is that strong huh, didn't consider that, just thought it was weak. Great answer bro 10/10

I have no delusions about being an Ultra-Great Modern Newton who'll revolutionize the sciences and map the Universe. I just wanna be good at my job and make some money so that I'll stop being a Yuropoor.

I'm studying "physics", but I can't concentrate. I can't sleep. My stomach hurts all the time. I try to eat good, exercise, go to bed early, but... it's no use. Worst of all is, I waste my days solvinglike, 5 or 10 exercises and not doing much else. I failed 5 classes this year.

>ib4 kys brainlet
Giving up is not an option. I don't have anything else to do, and we can't change unis here that easy. I just want to get out with a 7/10 diploma and not be a complete fuck-up.

I'm sorry to tell you that you're not cut out for what you're studying. Failing 5 classes during your entire undergraduate studies alone would be abnormally high.

Stop being a whiny little shit and just study. There are no shortcuts.

But just like IQ is genetic, so is industriousness. So if you haven't made it at this point you probably never will. You will ve happier if you just gave up and try to forget your sorrows in vidya, doritos and mountain dew.

>I'm studying "physics", but I can't concentrate.

I feel you. I am the same but I study a shittier program. We just need to sit and study.

Put the asteroids in nets then tether them. A bigger issue is how you are going to get them close enough together that you can use a reasonably sized tether.

No, not at all. In Finland everyone knows that rööki (tobacco) is actually good for you. If you don't smoke, then you will be bullied in school and get called a man child later in your life.

It is largely a conspiracy fuelled by the colleges and healthcare systems run by the authoritarian left.

Only 17% of Finland males smoke, though. And 14% of women. That's pretty low.

/mg/, /sqt/, all other math threads and all other college threads.

University threads should be allowed because lets be real, there is no other thing we do more than being in college. We should at least be able to talk about it. Maybe ban university threads if the core demographic gets old enough that the majority of us are out of college but meanwhile they should let us talk about it.

Can /sci/ comprehend what would actually happen if an alien race somehow traveled to earth?

They would have most likely
>1) unlocked FTL travel and anti gravity
>2) solved the energy crisis on their planets
>3) avoided catastrophic climate change that is inevitable with industrial expansion
>4) developed terraforming capabilities
>5) developed superweapons and superstructures
>6) most likely unified quantum mechanics with general relativity meaning they can teleport shit from one part of the galaxy to another

You can't win against a force like that /sci/. The odds are 100:0. There is no alternate reality where humanity wins against a foe like that.

You straight up bend on your knees and suck their dick hoping they don't annihilate us into dust with their 10000 megaton anti-matter cold fusion bomb

In explicit construction of Grothendieck group we say [math](m_1,m_2)[/math] is equivalent to [math](n_1,n_2)[/math] if [math]m_1+n_2+k=m_2+n_1+k[/math] for some [math]k\in M[/math]. But why do we need this k, what if we define the equivalence relation by just [math]m_1+n_2=m_2+n_1[/math]. What are counterexamples showing we need this +k?

Managed to get a prescription for adderall, should I go ahead and take it?

I feel like I'm just gonna build dependence on this drug and in future it's gonna bite me back when I can't function like a normal human being without it.

Right now, I'm having things like brain fog, I think it's because of the fact that I rarely exercise. Also I'm very disorganized and I find it hard to follow a fixed study schedule, but it's not like an average student has a study schedule, I believe I'm not disciplined enough to do it. Anyways, should I take this drug to circumvent developing discipline?

On my own, by just fucking around, I have a pretty good GPA 3.6/5, Physics.

I once saw a documentary where a man with a brain cloud jumped into an erupting pacific island volcano to clear it up. It worked out pretty well for him, you should try it too.

It won't give you motivation
>>
>>9084460
This, no matter how much of any drug you take, if you don't have the discipline to do something, a magic pill won't fix it for you and i've tried a lot of magic pills.

So you're claiming that biological computer (brain) is capable of things that a non-biological computer would never be capable of (this includes quantum computers in the future). That's nice hypothesis, but you'd need to back it up by showing why biological computers have such magical properties.

How do we know non-biological computers can have consciousness and emotions?

The idea that you can just program emotions and create a being seems kind of crazy.
