So I'm going to look at this 1989 Soarer this dude is trying to sell.
It's got the 7M in it and miles are pretty low (60000 km). Body has no damage and interior is mint. He wants 4500 for it.
I'm a little hesitant because I've never bought an import and have no idea if that's a good price or not. It's also an automatic which kind of sucks. I've got one friend telling me it's a good deal and the car is worth more, but he thinks all 80s Toyotas are gold. My other friend says I shouldn't pay more than 3000 and that I should "just get a CRX or something".
Can you help me out, /o/? I don't really know if this is a deal or not.
Pic is a random Soarer, not the one I'm looking at.
What country are you from?
>>16842654
I'm American
Also is the transmission a R154, W58, or a A340E?
Hey /o/ so I'm planning on buying a used car. Most likely a Honda Civic or Accord, just something modest and cheap as a commuter. It will most like be no more than 4 years old, less than 40k miles.
Question is, are the certified pre-owned ones worth it compared to the ones that arent? I might do some uber/lyfting on the side, and I should also note that I won't have this car for more than 4 years.
>buying new
>>16842711
>Not saving up your GBP so mummy can buy you one.
>>16842602
Just fix your current car or get a civic for 3k. A newer one does nothing better.
I may be about to become a pizza delivery guy for dominoes.
What do I need to know?
>>16842586
Have any of you guys been delivery boys before? I could really use some prior knowledge

Why the fuck did I just reply to myself
Have a good phone with a provider that has the best coverage in your area, so you can call people if needed and always have a signal. There are coverage maps online if you want the very best coverage
GPS is often useless out in the backroads, but it is helpful most of time. Using google maps streetview can be a good trick to find street numbers for houses before hand so you know where to go. I also use a gps app called "heremaps" because it overlays the actual house numbers on the map unlike google maps, which has saved me many, many times with unmarked houses.
Just maintain your vehicle well since you are going to be putting a lot of miles on it. Keep oil, coolant, jumper cables, spare tire, etc on hand.
Not super important, but it might be a good idea to keep track of your mileage and tips while on the job right off the bat. i think there are probably apps made to do this. It can just save you potential head ache for taxes and stuff
that's all i can think of right now
Picked up my first car the other day, a 96 Volvo 960. Mechanically perfect, cosmetically could use some love but it's not that bad. Not the turbo unfortunately, but cheaper insurance so I'm cool. Already changed all the fluids, new tires when I got it, and fairly low mileage. How'd I do?
>>16842527
The best you could possibly do. Real luxury right there.
lol is that a fucking hearse?
It is a car I would like to get. Last gen of the true Volvos before Ford pimped them out for cheeseburgers. You did pretty fucking good I'd say

I haven't smoked for ages, but still have a lighter with me at all times when I'm outdoors. Currently considering features I'd want in my next offroader, can't remember when I used my lighter last time but don't really want to miss it (yeah, call me a packrat).
Did you ever use yours in the wilderness, or it's just a dead weight? Tell me your story, anon.
I still like the idea of smoking in your car if its your shitbox/beater. Its well earned, and helps you get alert before work, and unlike coffee makes normies and retards more bearable. But anything remotely nice should smell like those squash air fresheners, or tastefully chosen little tree
A cigarette lighter? Do cars even offer that anymore? I've done dabs off them before.
tfw no comfy land yacht with cigarette lighters in every door.
>>16842470
A better question would be - what is normally is located in the place the car lighter will occupy? I'd rather have a power source than a lighter (which will need an adapter anyway).
Is Nurburgring a meme? do laptimes on that track matter?
No and yes
>>16842460
everything that the autistic faggots on this website obsess over is completely irrelevant to the real world
>>16842460
Yes and no.
Lap times dont matter to you unless you race.
Race cars lap times do not help you commute better.
I have 2,000 dlls right now, and I want to buy my first car, I'm looking for a sport car, but I want to know what are the important things that I need to check from a car (miles, motor, transmission, etc.) to not buy a useless car.
>>16842349
Since it sounds like you know nothing about cars, pay for a pre-purchase inspection. Any reputable shop should do one. If the person selling the car won't let you get the car inspected, it guarantees they're trying to hide something

Basically, I don't know anything. That's why I want help. What should I know about referring to cars?
I own a 2016 Golf R (DSG) outright. I've grown displeased with the ride quality (mine is non-DCC), throttle response and non-linear brake pedal actuation.
Should I address these issues or trade for a different vehicle? I was thinking about a new Mustang GT, Camaro SS or potentially a Cadillac CTS V-Sport. I would prefer something with instant power, a comfortable ride that can still corner pretty well. I'd like to buy American if possible.
>>16842331
why are you worried about the ride quality of a "hot hatch"?
I have a GTI and I take the good with the bad. You bought a car knowing full well the ride would be questionable. As for the throttle response...? I have no idea what you're doing. Peak torque in the GTI is at 2400RPM or so, so how the hell are you not able to accelerate when you've got 60 more horses?
>>16842344
To elaborate on the throttle response, I mean the R doesn't exactly have instant power - there are times I've need to GTFO either to pass or merge, have slammed the pedal only to wait an eternity for a downshift and then boost to build. It's that single context that has discolored the experience for me. Slowing down, trying to merge across traffic in a metropolitan area is painful. People give no consideration to turn signals, and instead speed up so that you don't impede them. So, while slowing down to try and get into an exit lane, you might suddenly need power to speed up and change lanes - and it feels absolutely laggy. Maybe less so in Sport mode. I haven't tuned my R, not sure if that would fix the issue. Also, the R has a larger turbo and takes longer to spin up.
>>16842369
The larger turbo might be the cause of that, because my GTI has almost immediate response all the time. Now granted I also have the performance pack with the DSG, so the tune might be a factor. If I'd have to make a suggestion, I'd say you should drive it in "manual" mode and keep boost for the occasions where you need the 300hp. Do you just cruise around in D? Sport seems to be too much for me to drive around in all the time, and D isn't enough, so I often use the manual setting to keep at least a little bit of boost
