Initial reports suggest it's pretty good. They're almost certainly biased though, just by getting people who are likely to love it or favourably review it in early. It doesn't even have to be a conscious thing, since the first people to push to see a thing will probably like it just by nature of pushing to see it. I'm thinking of going to see it for the action and setting, but the dialogue in the trailers is pretty awful and off putting.

The Mazone were fascinating villians in a golden age sci-fi kinda way.Didn't see the zombies coming, that was really cool. I liked how they showed off all these burning corpses throughout the show.
The secretof humanities origins tieing into the Mazones claim to the planetwas a pleasant if predictable twist, added depth to the whole thing. The dystopic earth reminded me of Wall-E & Idiocracy. I too, enjoy wallowing in Pessimism like Harlock, but the message I took away from the show was ultimately a rejection of that at the very end.
That ocarina music was better than Zelda, and the music in general was 10/10
This is so much better than Harlock Saga was

I don't like Harlock outside of the Heavy Melder episodes.
Some characters act so irrationally nearly every episode that it frustrates me.
I thought the Mazone were kind of boring.
The music is good, and I like Mime, Emeraldas and Tochiro.
If you compare it to Yamato and 999, it's definitely the weaker series.
Harlock Saga is simply weird because it's loosely based on Das Rheingold.
Endless Odyssey and Gun Frontier are the only Harlock shows I really enjoyed.

I've forgotten most of what went on aside from that if you ever see one of those "What If scenarios" and you needed a buddy with you for whatever reason to always pick Harlock because he'll always show up at the right moment shooting someone with his ray gun.

I'm looking for sci-fi comic. This is all I know:
- Published in 1990. I remember thinking it pretty advanced for something older than me.
- Follows the story of a cyborg shogun who is the apparent sole survivor of some space marshal force.
- Part of the first volume is all a flashback about who he was before he was turned into a cyborg.
- He was policeman in a future society where sex is seen as repulsive, and all people are homosexual if they have a sexual inclination at all.
- In the present day, the shogun saves a woman from some space goblins who had raided her colony and were raping her and other prisoners.
- At the end, this main character and this woman enter a virtual reality simulator and have sex.
- The MC monologues an Albert Einstein quote at one point about "I know not what weapons will be used in the third World War, but the fourth will be fought with sticks and stones."
- The cover of the volume I had had a samurai with a straw hat and a poncho maybe, standing over a derilect wasteland.
- The power of the crystals that powers the Samurai and which is coveted throughout the universe of this comic starts with an "R" and is an unusual word. Something like "Reigaki."
The comic was pretty big in area. It dwarfed other comics I have. That's all I really remember other than the name I think having the number seven in it. But I'm not banking on that.

It was a losing cause from the start. Not that someone attacking a threat with an unsuitable weapon is unrealistic. Unreasonable and improbable, yes. People do stupid shit for moral or emotional causes all the time though, including attacking stuff they really have no apparent chance against.
