One paragraph at a time

>The boy watched the cars go by from the overpass. As he held the brick in his hand he stood and waited. He didn't know which car he would drop it on, but he felt when the time came he would know. This was his first real world experience in contemplating fate. It made him feel small, which just made him want to throw the brick and break something even more.

"sorry, I just couldnt resist" said the writer of this sentence. The boy pulled his pants down and began shoving the brick up his ass. He quickly determined, it would have to be by corner. 'The pyramids weren't built in a day, and neither will I be'.

Only when the brick was halfway into his ass did he realize that it wouldn't fit. He removed it, slowly at first and then all at once, prolapsing his tight boy hole in the process. He stood there, knees bent, bloody fecal matter running down his leg, smiling coyly and remembering the basement sessions with Uncle John

Are there any patrician writers who wrote things that were scary? I was into creepypasta when it was a thing and have enjoyed some of the works of Poe and Lovecraft. Is there any literature (preferably classics) that can be considered horror or are in some way scary or creepy?

The Sleeper

At midnight, in the month of June,
I stand beneath the mystic moon.
An opiate vapor, dewy, dim,
Exhales from out her golden rim,
And softly dripping, drop by drop,
Upon the quiet mountain top,
Steals drowsily and musically
Into the universal valley.
The rosemary nods upon the grave;
The lily lolls upon the wave;
Wrapping the fog about its breast,
The ruin moulders into rest;
Looking like Lethe, see! the lake
A conscious slumber seems to take,
And would not, for the world, awake.
All Beauty sleeps!—and lo! where lies
Irene, with her Destinies!

Oh, lady bright! can it be right—
This window open to the night?
The wanton airs, from the tree-top,
Laughingly through the lattice drop—
The bodiless airs, a wizard rout,
Flit through thy chamber in and out,
And wave the curtain canopy
So fitfully—so fearfully—
Above the closed and fringéd lid
’Neath which thy slumb’ring soul lies hid,
That, o’er the floor and down the wall,
Like ghosts the shadows rise and fall!
Oh, lady dear, hast thou no fear?
Why and what art thou dreaming here?
Sure thou art come o’er far-off seas,
A wonder to these garden trees!
Strange is thy pallor! strange thy dress!
Strange, above all, thy length of tress,
And this all solemn silentness!

The lady sleeps! Oh, may her sleep,
Which is enduring, so be deep!
Heaven have her in its sacred keep!
This chamber changed for one more holy,
This bed for one more melancholy,
I pray to God that she may lie
Forever with unopened eye,
While the pale sheeted ghosts go by!

My love, she sleeps! Oh, may her sleep,
As it is lasting, so be deep!
Soft may the worms about her creep!
Far in the forest, dim and old,
For her may some tall vault unfold—
Some vault that oft hath flung its black
And wingéd pannels fluttering back,
Triumphant, o’er the crested palls
Of her grand family funerals—

Some sepulchre, remote, alone,
Against whose portals she hath thrown,
In childhood, many an idle stone—
Some tomb from out whose sounding door
She ne’er shall force an echo more,
Thrilling to think, poor child of sin!
It was the dead who groaned within.

The sleeper in the valley

It is a green hollow where a stream gurgles,
Crazily catching silver rags of itself on the grasses;
Where the sun shines from the proud mountain:
It is a little valley bubbling over with light.

A young soldier, open-mouthed, bare-headed,
With the nape of his neck bathed in cool blue cresses,
Sleeps; he is stretched out on the grass, under the sky,
Pale on his green bed where the light falls like rain.

His feet in the yellow flags, he lies sleeping. Smiling as
A sick child might smile, he is having a nap:
Cradle him warmly, Nature: he is cold.

No odour makes his nostrils quiver;
He sleeps in the sun, his hand on his breast
At peace. There are two red holes in his right side.
>>
There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground,
And swallows circling with their shimmering sound;

And frogs in the pools, singing at night,
And wild plum trees in tremulous white,

Robins will wear their feathery fire,
Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire;

And not one will know of the war, not one
Will care at last when it is done.

Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree,
If mankind perished utterly;

And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn,
Would scarcely know that we were gone.

Should guys read books by Jane Austen, even if they are "girly" books? Why or why not? What can they learn from them?
4 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Nope. The greatness of a literary work is gender exclusive. Men cannot appreciate the works of women, and vice versa. Such is life.
>>
There is already an active thread about Jane Austen. Kill yourself.
>>
>>9195350
I think that's a load of horse shit. Are you implying that a woman can't appreciate the work of a man? If so, I cannot begin to describe just how wrong you are.

What works would you include in an "Eastern Canon"?
14 posts and 3 images submitted.

Asking westerners about eastern culture seems pretty dumb to me.
>>
If you want an outline of Buddhists texts and their history, read The Flower of Chinese Buddhism by Daisaku Ikeda. It's on Libgen.
>>

None of us have any idea because learning those languages well enough to investigate "eastern cannon" and then actually doing so, could probably take lifetimes.

Thanks anon. Would you say amazon is the best of the best to buy lit?

I know Reddit is low-hanging fruit, but I'm baffled at some of the comments in this thread. Some argue against Pratchet, but the overwhelming majority seem to be in agreement with the article. Is Genre-fiction really the pinnacle of literature? This is one of the only dissenters, and somehow his opinion is even worse than the original in the article. Hold me /lit/

Throw pic related on the pile.
