Why is this book so hard to read? The style is too complex for me to understand its contents. What's the best approach to read and understand this kind of literature?

Force reading until you get it.
Step out of your confort zone.

You have to know what Camus was talking about it.
He did his MA in Plotinus; neoPlatonism flows through the essay. Read the Ennaeds.

What is the point of reading literature if you've never read Progress and Poverty?

Like Veblen, George is read today because he IS literature. Chin up!

How much prior knowledge do I need to have, and in what topics exactly, to read this book?
For people who don't know what this book is, it is a book about the rituals of the original Illuminati.

who cares about some dudes who used to larp back in the day? read some fiction m8
>>9190246
Historical value?
I read a lot of fiction, by the way.
Is there something about this that I missed?
I feel like it didn't go in depth about anything. Not war or love or the protagonist's view of his life or anything. Moments of it were strong, but I felt like it didn't all come together by the end.
well reading isn't for everyone.
Go back to wearing cutoff jeans and swishing dicks around in your mouth, it's your calling.
>I feel like it didn't go in depth about anything. Not war or love or the protagonist's view of his life or anything.
Hemingway is the YA of "classical literature". You read him for the cool story, but his themes are ultimately vapid, his prose is dry and lacking any beauty, and his stories are choked with self insertion and unfulfilled fantasies regarding women

My kindle just broke. I'm sad. Is it worth it to switch to Nook or something else? I had a paperwhite which was so nice.
>>9190185
People here swear by kobo (because you can pirate epubs). Only ever used kindle myself though.
>>9190228
? I could pirate epubs on my kindle paperwhite. Do they mean you can pirate it from directly on the kobo?
Yotaphone 2. I ditched my Kindle Paperwhite.
Is anyone else here legitimately on the autism spectrum? I enjoy reading and writing, but I feel like my imagination isn't as great as others. If it is, I feel like I have a difficult time both visualising different things and putting certain things into succinct words. My attempt at prose ends up looking like an instruction manual just to describe something because it gets so specific.
Does anyone else do this? I think it will hurt my chances of getting published or even getting people interested in whatever story I am trying to tell.
Everyone writes roboticly until they write enough shit to learn how to do it well and go from making shit to making crap until one day they may be able to make something ok
My brother has Asperger's and is obsessed with aggrandizing his vocab n sheit so he can write better
>>9189990
yes! i have autism and it's painful to feel so endlessly obligated to convey my ideas as accurately as possible. the ability to transcribe abstract thoughts into english can be quite difficult. it's frustrating; however, i thihk our preoccupation with being as proper as possible can be utilized as an advantage when it's not painful or crippling.
i often get accused of equivocation and being pretentious when in reality i always write like this because it naturally feels most comfortable to me.
you are not alone. it might turn some people away but draw some in. it depends on the particular person, i suppose.
i think people like it unless they get angry with you. then they just insult it because they need /something/ to insult you for.
anyone have a list/chart of essential ww1/ww2 novels? or recommendations?
i'm mostly looking for realist novels (so not slaughterhouse 5 or gravitys rainbow) and i am interested in works like journey to the end of the night which deal with life in wartime but not exclusively combat

Discuss how this book has affected your life.
Is it good? What other books are similar to this one?
didn't read lol
made me laugh a lot
I listened to the audiobook, ands it's absurd.
Best place to start with Evola?

Dropping him and reading René Guenon instead.

revolt -> men among the ruins -> ride the tiger
revolt is the probably the least exciting read but also gives you the most complete idea of where he's coming from. there is some really good stuff in there but also a lot of "ancient egypt was like this, ancient greece was like this, imperial rome was like this, the middle ages were like this, but there is absolutely nothing about modern life that redeems it" so just know what you're getting into

>reading a schizophrenic muslim convert
Ok serious question from a guy. Books like Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice, and other books from authors like Austen and the three Brontës have this stigman of being "girly", but are also regarded as classics, books of which I believe should be read by both men and women. How do these books apply to men, and how can I prove it?
Also, don't spoil it too much, as I haven't read them yet, but am about to.
I would also like to know.
>>9189624
What they apply to is human relationships from a gender-perspective other than your own. You want to know women, right? At any rate it's far more important to know your enemies rather than say, your parents, or your friends..
>>9189624
It will give the reader deeper insight into the female mind. Once gained, you'll have no further need or desire to attempt to communicate intelligently with women.
So, if nothing else, it will free you from the idiocy of trying to talk to women for anything other than service of some sort.
What do you think of him /lit/?
Have any of you ever read his books?
Do you like him?
From what I've heard he blends mythology very interestingly, but I'm 99% sure its going to be trash if I start reading him.
>>9189610
I like his comfy aesthetic, even though there are probably better writers doing similar stuff. American Gods has some nice bits with the gods themselves, but the protagonist "Shadow Moon" is very thin. Graveyard Book and the Sandman comics were better.
fun to read
>>9189630
define the 'comfy aesthetic'. What about it is comfy to you?
Is this the only fantasy that can truly be said to be literary fiction?
>One cannot raise walls against what has been forgotten
>Everyone getting fucked by their forgotten origins again and again
>It's like poetry, it rhymes
Where's the acclaim and sales and cult following? It's literally the only fantasy that has something even resembling a point.
