Hello /Lit/,
I am writing about human experience. This is what I have so far. Please critique me. I encourage an open discussion of human experience as well.
>There are many different ways and ideas as to how humans experience the World. We can look at the concepts of rationalism and empiricism as standards set by previous philosophers, but we must also grow and evolve those ideas. Firstly I would like to separate the mind of the individual and how they perceive and the mind of the collective. I believe that humans are rich, conscious beings that work in their best effort to do what is right for them and those around them. They will struggle at times, and try to find the easiest way to do most menial tasks while developing rich work ethics and strong morals in order to improve on the society they live in. The individual focuses on creating an environment that best suits their needs from the things that they have perceived to make them happy. We know that humans experience through the five senses and through those experiences, they develop certain traits that will usually be a part of them for the rest of their lives. These perceptions cause us to form our perceived reality and to live a life in part to the things that affect us. The World as an individual knows it is an amalgamation of everything that the individual perceives, whether that is smells, sights, tastes and so on. Through those perceptions the individual is able to piece together they perceive as the real world. There is no true reality, as humans are only able to perceive their environment. The real world as humans know it is whatever they face how they interact with it and what they take away from it. Everything in life is a perception, but the way people perceive things is completely subjective. When we think of humans as a collective on the other hand, we begin to warp the reality that we have set ourselves on an individual level. We no longer hold as many truths close to us and rely on the perceptions of others to help grow ours. We can look at the very base line of things of how humans learn through in society. This does not account for everyone, as there are those who do not learn in schools, but for the most part humans develop their cognitive processes through things such as school and interactions with adults. The base ideas that were given to them were also just teachings from others. They learned through not only experience of the self but of the experience from others. In my life it has been harder for me to learn from others than it was to learn on my own. I had trouble understanding how others felt until I truly felt it. The collective hampers the training of the self, but also enables it.
>The collective hampers the training of the self, but also enables it. We live our lives very differently depending on our perceptions of things. As a collective we are trained to think a certain way and to interact a certain way to follow into a general idea of society. We are slowly starting to devolve from that process with the advent of the internet. People are slowly developing new cultures and ideas on their own, finding those who also believe that and melding into a new life that they feel is better suited for them. The collective feeds off of individuality, but warps the individual who makes that reality.

I do not know: first; how old you are; second; why you are writing this.
Your work gives the impression that you are either young or an inexperienced writer, which has nothing to do with your natural ability, your style will just evolve with time.
You need to structure your writing. Use subheadings to do this. 'Individuality and the Collective' could be one. You begin to explore various topics on different levels and these topics seep into each other making your work hard to follow.
My major advise is to read more; you will learn from the authors writing style.
One minor point:
Try to avoid saying things such as 'I would like...' and 'I think'. They are implied.
"Firstly I would like to separate..." should read "I separate...".
I'm tired of spending all of my time between work and my house. What are some /lit/ approved ways of getting /out/ of the house? Other than going to bookstores and libraries.
Was thinking of taking books with me to restaurants so I could read before and after my meal. How do you guys satisfy your desire to go outside? In a /lit/ manner, of course.
just go the fuck outside stop overthinking

>How do you guys satisfy your desire to go outside?
By going outside, you hopeless fucking autist.
I never read anything by Shakespeare. It's probably high time.
1. Which play do you personally prefer ?
2. Given that English is not my native language, should I still read it in English ?
3. Why is he so great ?

watch two performances of a play before reading it.
watch this for a little bit of context before reading https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FF5K8VlcRI
if you struggle with reading in english read a translation first.
when reading an english text decide on a character (presumably your favourite) and read his dialogue out loud. Try to read them in one session (about 2 hours). Don't stop to read annotations unless you really don't understand what's going on.
>>9194013
also you dont have to, say, watch two of the same plays in a day then read it the next day. that would burn you out pretty fast. just watch a play here and there when you get bored, return to the text in the future. The plays are relatively short so go ahead and read them when you need a break from w/e tome you happen to be reading at the time.

1. Hamlet or Richard II
2. It's hard to say, it depends on how well you know English but be sure to read summaries and stuff alongside so you can understand everything
3. His plays have a ton of different ways you can read them because of the figurative language he uses

Am I wasting my time reading non-fiction shit like this? Should I just read the classics?
You should read whatever you want. If you want to learn about a specific thing read about it. If you want to read purely to be entertained read whatever entertains you even if it's Harry Potter and twilight and shit.

Is there any point in reading genre fiction when the movie is always superior?
>when the movie is always superior
If it were the case, then yes. However it is not.
>>9193673
Even if it were the case, It wouldn't be superior.
>>9193684
>If the movie was always superior, it wouldn't be superior.
>Tfw you realize Shakespeare's genius use of the male/female duality in Richard II to explore the meaning of a king as someone who can be just or good but not both

I'm confused by what you mean.
Richard II wasn't just or good.

The female characters are the ones who deal with the events on a personal level (the duchess of York begs for her son's pardon, Queen isabel laments her separation from Richard, etc) whereas the male characters think politically (Bolingbroke acts very expediently throughout the play). Richard himself is an effeminate man who has the divine right of kings to rule, but as such he is ineffective. He even compares himself to a woman in his final soliloquy. Bolingbroke is his masculine counterpart; effective and descisive, but lacking a proper succession to the throne. In the final scene he begins to take up the griefs and burdens of the throne, which begin his process of emasculation that is completed by the beginning of Henry IV part 1

i lost my inspiration to write and i need it back right now, any advice for getting inspired again?
(pic unrelated, i just like that color)
>>9193506
Reading usually inspires me. When I feel uninspired it's often when I'm not reading. So when it happens I go back to a book or story that had an impact on me...one of those books or stories that never forget and every once in a while think about.
Other times I just force myself. I like to go to languageisavirus.com and use some of their prompts.
Very /lit/ site. Poke around and get inspired.
Awful taste in color
I'd love to give advice - but there's no real point as everyone is so different and I've got no idea what's going on in your life. Some writers, like Henry Miller, joked that inspiration was a bother, and they couldn't wait for it to pass. Others like Balzac could write a book in one night (aided by a million cups of coffee and a need for cash). So - yeah.
