What works would you include in an "Eastern Canon"?
Asking westerners about eastern culture seems pretty dumb to me.
If you want an outline of Buddhists texts and their history, read The Flower of Chinese Buddhism by Daisaku Ikeda. It's on Libgen.

You're being inconsistent. Are you complaining that you can read one book and decide its importance to a foreign culture, or are you complaining that you can't but also shouldn't trust objective sources on that matter?
Either you are able to decide its importance, or you need historical perspective. It's one or the other, unless you chose not to read them foreign books.
