Does anyone know of any good Arabic literature?
>>9199407
The Romance of Antar.

Pre-islamic Arabic literature was very deep, complex and intelligent.
"Persian Poets" is pretty good
>The is–ought problem, as articulated by Scottish philosopher and historian David Hume (1711–76), states that many writers make claims about what ought to be on the basis of statements about what is. Hume found that there seems to be a significant difference between positive statements (about what is) and prescriptive or normative statements (about what ought to be), and that it is not obvious how one can coherently move from descriptive statements to prescriptive ones. The is–ought problem is also known as Hume's law, or Hume's guillotine.
What the fuck does this even mean, can someone break it down for me?
>>9199259
>people are poor
>let's tax the rich and give money to the poor people
You have a positive statement (people are poor) and basing your opinion on only that you make a prescriptive statement (we should tax rich people and give those taxed money to the poor people).
What David is telling us, instead, is that we should let poor people starve

are you in high school or something, its pretty easy to understand
example: just because its raining doesnt mean we should stay inside

How to structure a joke?
I want to impress someone with a funny 1 or 2 page text. What are some key elements and stylistic aspects to take into account.
My favorite jests are structured like pyramidical fractals
>>9199254
Kid you're either funny or you're not and judging from this post I can be reasonably sure you're not
>>9199254

Yeah probably
Anything a book can't solve is either solved by pills or nothing
>tfw writing a monumental work which will change the future as we know it

What's it about? Post a passage?
>>9199138
Just you wait, my brother. I know you don't believe me, but it will be the defining moment of our time.
>>9198704
Are you finally going redpill all the libcucks?
Love him or hate him, you have to admit that Elliot Rodger's book is absolutely hilarious.
Pic related for one example. It's as funny if not moreso than Confederacy IMO
>>9198391
Excerpt from Dostoevsky's Notes from Underground, circa. 1864.
>>9198391
Confederacy was fictional. This is like if Jim Jones was too autistic and virginal to start a cult and instead decided to throw "wild tantrums" about it. I find it hard to laugh at the Jonestown Death Tapes, although this writing is probably useful to psychology.

Wasn't this faggot unbelievably privileged? The only shame about him dying was that he took other people with him.
What does /lit/ think about H.P Lovecraft?
I'm pretty sure he's related to Zuckerberg

>>9198093
Based and redpilled. Love him.
Stop disrespecting the canon
fuck u harold canons killed many people
your canon is unbelievable garbage, fuck off
>>9198080
But like I don't understand like why are some books in the "canon" and some aren't? i think eragon has as much quality as that pretentious shit by ts eliot and other dead white males. why do professors force us to read sexist, racist, and transphobic literature? is it because the professors support these things? shouldn't literature change get with the times already? and why can't eggs be eaten for dinner?

Let's discuss
>Let's not discuss
Ok.
He mentions some books you lot might like tho.
>reading dystopian fiction in an attempt to understand fascism
>Not reading the extensive academic literature already available on the subject
>Not reading the works of the actual fascists themselves and drawing your own conclusions
What the heck
>>9197879
It really annoys me how people are already acting like Trump is Hitler when he hasn't even done anything that bad yet.
It just further promotes the idea-centric culture of the modern day

I like reading litterature, and I already can speak and read Russian and English (a big chunk of literature is written in those languages). I want to learn a new language, for reading purposes.
What language with a rich literary tradition would you recommend for me?
I was considering Latin or maybe German, thank you for your help in advance :)
>>9197672
Although German is quite difficult to master I think it is a beautiful language and has some of the greatest books to offer, which you can only fully appreciate in the original language. This is coming from a German native speaker. Maybe you can try some lessons on Duolingo and see how you can handle it.
>>9197672
They're always the same, dude:
Philosophy: Greek & German
Poetry: Latin & Italian
Prose: French & Russian
End.
