Hey /lit/!

This is a thread I would create ~3 years ago if anyone recalls. This is a thread for writers who would like some critique without having to give any.

Here's how it works:
>I started this thread sometime before I went to bed, you post what you'd like me to look at.
>When I wake up, I'll go through the submissions from top to bottom until I reach the end.
>If I give you critique, please consider giving some to somebody else in the thread!
>Please no poetry though, I am not a poet.

What do I gain out of this?
I am not a published author/editor/critic, so please take my words with a grain of salt. I am a fellow writer, like you, but I've been in a slump for ~2 years and I thought this might be a way to jumpstart my old hobby.

I won't be brutal and entirely negative, but I will be honest.

Have a wonderful night, anon!

There's a man walking down the street. He is skeleton thin with a big coat that hangs on him like a bat to a wire. He wears two different shoes, and there is a shadow in his eyes that lets you know hes not all the way there anymore. He walks around the puddles and when he cries no one notices, because it all flows to the sewer.

it's a reference to The Trojan War Will Not Take Place, if you read the book you'll know Baudrillard doesn't actually think the gulf war did not take place

Please leave and never return if you agree with any of the following;

>you read any form of genre fiction
>you think fantasy, science fiction, detective fiction, young adult fiction or horror are literature
>you barely know your classics
>you tend to believe that if you like a given work, it is justified on an artistic level
>you think everyone's opinion should be accepted and respected
>you speak a single language
>you read contemporary versions of Shakespeare or Milton
>you read for the plot
>you read for entertainment
>you rarely read nonfiction
>you don't have a solid grounding in philosophy
>you do not at least have some understanding of the Three Tragedians and Homer
>you have little to no understanding of literature outside of your cultural horizon
>you have little to no understanding of literature within your own cultural horizon (muh african authors)
>you mostly read contemporary literature
>you believe 'the author is dead'
>you make your literary analysis proceed from ideology
>you think intricate prose is 'pretentious' and that the author 'should just get to the point'
>your rarely read poetry
>you think Rhythm and Rhyme is just useless rules and laws restricting creativity
>you have a hard time explaining why you like a given work
>you have a hard time forming structured and relevant literary criticism
>you tend to refuse to judge works for yourself, rather relying on the opinions of literary authorities
>you rarely read for more than one or two hours straight

This is a board about literature. You're not welcome here. Please take your plebeian garbage to /b/ or reddit, where you will find both a demographic and a general atmosphere more consistent with your tastes and your culture.

Also, what is the patrician book you are reading right now?

Okay, get this.
Saudi Arabia, the gulf states, Israel, and america are in a proxy war with iran and the shia crescent over regional control, oil, and threats to Zionism.
The cia, uses terrroist groups to overthrow nations, they did it in libya, egypt, bharaine and tried it in syria, didnt work out that well, arab spring turned into arab winter.
Well, these methods have blow back like rapugees, and terrorism.
The people in charge are legit morons and monsters who dont care.

Thats about it

>General Grammar, Aristotelian Logic, and Classical Rhetoric comprise the first three rules-based subjects of the 7 Liberal Arts and Sciences. As these disciplines are learned and practiced together, they form the overarching, symbiotic system for establishing clarity and consistency of personal thought called the Trivium.

I never considered that grammar, logic, and rhetoric could be that helpful as a tool for organizing thinking.

Is there some merit to the Trivium? Why is it grown out of use?

Are there similar systems for strengthening understanding and communication?

Honestly, I wish there was more discussion about how to live a non-degenerate life and how best to obtain a grounded perspective of the world, in academics and in pragmatics. Even at the end of the Roman Republic, the politicians were still intelligent, passionate, and capable thinkers. Caesar, Cato, Cicero, etc. It seems like we live in highly degenerate times in comparison, given how incompetent and shallow our leaders are. We have volumes of knowledge of not only how to express great ideas, but also on how to live a good life, and yet not even the greatest of us seems to follow those prescriptions. Compare Jeb Bush to Marc Antony--the former wouldn't have lasted a minute in the Roman civil war.
>>
Can someone give me a quick rundown of the Trivium?
>>
>>9351976
Grammar - not only to convey your message clearly. Grammar is also pretty fucking important if you're learning Latin and Greek as classical languages.
Logic - learning formal logic and knowing how to conduct arguments.
Rhetoric - understanding how people are persuaded.

What do you guys think of this thing I just thought up?

There is a house. Cavernous easter egg house, somehow small and familiar. At the far western wing of this place - A structure. A stained-glass tent, made of metal, 20 feet tall, distorted as if seen through a melted mirror. A sheet of Rainbow glass draped over a rod at its apex, pulled taught. No doors or flaps, a lazily winding triangular tunnel that twists around the corner of unfinished space. You stand at the entrance, multi colored biblical shadows diffusing the light on the floor ahead of your feet. Take a step, don’t fear this new place, this place where you can’t see more than a few paces ahead of you for the curve, but where what you can see holds in its rays the pastel echo of the adventure that you were promised all that long time ago, before the pattern formed, before you were resigned. Your pulse is getting faster. You remember, don’t you?
