any good guides on how to learn to do practical gore effects? It's a small passion of mine.

In Desperado fake gore was shot at the actors with an air cannon. It was a step up from the weight belt+squibs+condoms of fake blood in El Mariachi.
Dawn of the Dead had some good tricks too, the screwdriver+fake blood in a painted staw for stabbing and dimes covered in makeup with blood underneath yanked away for headshots.

Get a T12 based soldering iron, it's the tips used for the FX-951. The integration of the heating element with the tip massively improves the temperature response. The Bakon 950D is a popular low cost station which uses them.

http://www.banggood.com/BAKON-950D-75W-Mini-Portable-Digital-Soldering-Station-with-T12-Tip-p-982824.html

The prop up stand for the soldering iron is a bit basic though, so you might want to spend a couple extra bucks to buy that separately.

So, by not pretending to be new, you mean copying old designs? Triggered by plywood? You are one of those shitheads who just shit on other people's work with zero knowledge or qualification to make yourself sound knowledgable, everyone knows you are a shithead and you can't make shit, go stick some plywood up your anus and maybe we will see something new from you.

HOW THE FUCK DO I BREAK THE SEAL ON THIS THING.

It's an old "INDUSTRIAL VACUUM ABSORPTION"

I am trying to break that black/crusty rubber seal so I can open it up. I want to make a tiny forge that way.

Pls help :-(

Acetone may eat through it, or just burn it off
>>
Is it threaded?

If you are not worried about the contents , immerse it in nearly boiling water.

Let it cool, then try again.

Sometimes heat is enough to loosen a lot of things.
>>
>>1146322
Maybe an acetone vapor chamber? Be sure to seal off the innards so only affects the seal gap and not for example the motor winding lacquer. Maybe couple of layers of aluminium foil on the inlets wrap 'em tightly. Leave it in the chamber for a week....Maybe add Xylene in the evaporation cup too.

What would you do, Anon?
I can't pay for another countertop, this new one fit better than the previous but isn't flush. The walls aren't true.
Previous countertop was exact same dimensions but the gap was paid led with calking. I planed off 1/2 inch on the underside to close it as much as I could... Still pic related.

I was thinking to putting some quarter round over it but I don't really like that idea. Wat do?

no real loss anyway if that's a corian shit countertop or w/e. use some plastic stick on molding to form around those round edges?

From my search people seem to like Aoyue Chinese brand, a hakko clone. And Xytronic. However I can't find them in stores easily here but I can find other no name hakko clones. There is also a lot of Proskit stations here, which are also hakko clones but more expensive than competition. The brand itself doesn't have much internet presence.

Amazon.de doesn't show many good options from what I can tell except for Ersa Pico, a Weller like brand I can get for $98 which maybe expensive for a hobbyist.

a cheap 60w adjustable iron from ebay has served me well, imo if you are a casual it should be more than enough
>>
>>1146126
If you want to go ultra budget. And still have a useful iron get a butane one. My butane iron changed my life and the best part is that it doubles as a hot air gun and torch. I've soldered small pitch ics with this thing and have gotten excellent results.

Hey /diy/,

Im not sure if this is the right board for this. But I am in need of advice. I'm 19 and I commute to work. Recently, My car's ABS module stopped working, the calipers on the front left wheel have worn down past the brake pads, and something is wrong with the left back axle. Either the bearing is out or the axle is bad.

Anyways, the advice I am looking for is, should i repair it? It costs $700 ($2200 if the back axle is bad). My parents say that its risky because I've never worked on cars before, and if I fuck it up I could injure myself/someone else and that wouldnt be good for me. I get that, but I really really don't wanna finance a car.

Other additional notes, I have about $3000 to my name and the car is a 2003-05 Ford Crown Victoria with 132000ish miles. My boss and my uncle said its not impossible to fix it yourself though.

What do you think, /diy/? I need a car or my life is limited to my house.

assuming you're doing your own repairs, why will it cost so much?
$2200 buys a whole extra crown vic.
>>
>>1146113
No this is what my mechanic quoted me. I wouldn't have known what was wrong if it werrnt for him. Sorry for not specifying lol
>>
>>1146113
I looked up parts I need for it, it is around $300 if the axle is safe and the bearing just needs replacing

Hey /diy/, not sure if this is the correct board for this, but here we go.

I'm finally getting a house soon, and I'll have access to a yard. I come from a farming family in Indiana, and I really want to build some raised beds in the back yard, and grow some heirloom tomatoes. I've looked up the area requirements for central Texas (where I'm living now), and it looks like the growing season is pretty long.

I already had the seeds, and they're all germinated up into seedlings. I'm building the raised beds right now, and I'm thinking that I'll be using 4x10 beds.

I've never done raised beds before, as I've usually just tilled a patch of ground and planted that way. I'll be picking up the soil soon, and I'm looking at getting a basic organic soil mix from Lowes or something. I'm setting up soaker hoses, and I'll be adding mulch as well.

Does anyone here garden in Texas at all? Any idea what kind of yields I'll be looking at? I'm used to getting about 10 to 15 pounds per tomato plant, but from what I've researched, most people get around 20 to 25 through the growing season.

Do you guys know of anything I've overlooked? I'm not used to this type of growing, but I've done about 10 hours of research this week on it, and it looks fairly easy. Almost too easy.

Mockingbirds will be your bane. They will brave any deterrent, circumvent any barrier and take exactly one bite out of every tomato you grow. I used to live in the country where I could blast the little skyniggers, but they'd always find a way to eat my tomatoes anyway.
>>
General about 'maters in texas..

They can get sunburned. A partial shade cloth rigged overhead will help keep the plants and the tomatoes healthy when the sun is getting cruel. If you have bird and squirrel problems you can expand this with the addition of some chicken-wire sides to box in your precious fruits.

As summer turns to fall, I've successfully turned the shade supports into a makeshift greenhouse with draped painter's plastic/moving blankets and light fixtures on the end of extension cords. Just enough warmth to get through cold-snap nights that blow down from the north.

What's the best way to get these fucking bastards out of an attic without using any poisons?
34 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
Seen this thread before and had that problem myself.
Mothballs, red pepper, ect may discourage them a little, but the only way to get rid of them is to seal the holes they're using to get in.

Had 'em on my porch overhang. Put a half of a box of mothballs in it. Couple days later, they were all outside on the ground.
Sealed the hole up with a piece of wood. They nibbled at it a bit but gave up in a couple days.
>>
Google a one way door for squirrels. Find the opening and put it up there. When you're sure there are no more in the attic seal the hole. Should be pretty easy to find considering the size of them.
>>
>>1145783
Live trap baited with nuts and peanut butter. After a few days with no catches, seal their entry points. I wouldn't seal the entry points until then, because they might freak and do damage trying to claw their way out.

Hi, I live in Northern Ontario and plan on building a cabin as soon as the snow melts. I was thinking of doing an A-Frame cabin but if it's easier to do a rectangular shape then I may opt for that design. Anyone have any experience with cabin building with tips/advice on which one I should go for if I want to make things easier on me?
