I have a 9inch by 9inch sample and I'm trying to figure out what a it would weight per square foot (12" x 12"). I'm too dumb to figure it out and not sure what to Google.

I remember from school there was cross multiplying. Would that work?

It weighs 1.2lbs...

seems high? doubling the size will be 162 and 2.4 each.

It's right
Drawing it would make the result seem more reasonable.

I post about speakers and such a lot, I have another problem.

My boss gave me a Kenwood SW-303 powered subwoofer that plays sound nicely, but cuts out sometimes. I have a feeling it only does that when the volume is too loud, but I'm not an expert so I'm not sure. What can I do to figure out exactly what the problem is, and how to fix it? Is there a capacitor I need to replace? A fuse?

Help pls

My suspect is one of the caps is fucked.

I checked all the electeolytic caps and they seem fine, would one of the ceramic ones be toasted?

Checked them with what? Your eyes? Do you have magic eyes that can test capacitors?

Hello /diy/. Meet my babies. I've loved theese steel toe Shellys Ranges boots for four years now. I've used them for construction work, fighting, kicking everything, everyone and anything. It's really been a wildride, and i'm very much in love with them. I'm going to replace the outsole and the laces pretty soon, and they've always been smothered and polished with kiwi. My concerns are theese (see first post) "Scruff marks?" No idea how to call them, flakes? The leather seems to have cracked up. It's not all the way through, but still. I really want to get rid of this, and make my boots great again. This is the best place to come for advice, so shoot at me /diy/

At exactly 12:00 PM, every anon that has posted on 4chan in the last three months receives a warning in a deep, unnatural voice, it says

> "You have two hours to prepare."

Before disappearing. You innately sense that you will be teleported to another world, much like earth, with an ecosystem reminiscent of prehistoric earth, and a great many abandoned, and empty ruins that haven't been occupied for at least a century.

You will be able to take 200 pounds of anything you can carry, or one person you know personally and 100 pounds of anything you can carry, with you.

When the anons are teleported, each board will receive 250 miles of untamed wilderness, with a moderately sized ruined city, containing the bare minimum needed to kickstart a medieval level civilization, to themselves.

/diy/ gets its own land, /pol/ gets its own, etc. Each anon will be teleported to the territory of the board they browse and post most frequently in, if they're divided in their posting, they go to the board they favor most.

first, going to end up in /tg/ land.
second, this is an old, old pasta "thought experiment" and my answers are the same as they ever were.

Hammock, rain-fly, doubled tarps and a ton of stupidly strong cordage and fixings. Already together in a compact pouch.

camping mess kit, the old one and the new one which are already packed up in the aluminum pots&pans/lids. much more rope, lower quality stuff on a big spool from a failed rope bridge project. All the big steel nails/landscaping spikes that the owner left after the last time he was working on the flowerbeds. Couple hammers, sadly no sledge. wood-splitting maul. Hatchet. change of clothes along with every pair of underthings, socks and my everyday sneakers plus the camping boots.

Big kitchen knife, any small knives handy.

The remainder of my weight limit will be blank notebooks, pens, pencils, sharpeners, flashlights, more flashlights and the knee-high block of beeswax.

what do you guys do with old computers?
any cool things ideas instead of throwing them to the trash?

i have 3 2004-2007 pc's (mainly amd socket A stuff), i use one 24/7 for soulseek. no clue what to do with the other 2.

There's really nothing worthwhile to do with them. The computing power of something that old is outstripped by mobile tech that would pay for itself in months of use in power savings alone.

Recycle them. Remove the hard drive magnets, smash the platters.
>>
Run SETI@home on them all 24/7 to find aliens
>>
>>1147218
Recycle them. If you've got the chemicals on hand you can strip parts for gold.

I want to add a dedicated landline wallphone in my kitchen that is connected to another phone in my garage.

Ideally, you'd pick up one of the phones and the other would ring. All other calling features would be disabled, meaning you cannot make any other calls out.

Is this feasible? Thanks in advance for any info you may have.

They're called intercoms.
>>
use four wire phone line for the circuit
put a 9v battery in series in the 'loop' using the red/green wires
hook a buzzer and switch on the black/yellow pair

phones are amazingly simple but deceptively complicated
what you want to do can be done but requires special voltages and frequencies for the 'ring' signal (90vac at 20Hz)
this signal is sent over the same pair as the voice line which is normally 48vdc
you'd also need sensor to detect when a receiver was 'off hook' so it would ring and sense when both were off hook to know to stop the ring
there are devices available for this but not at /diy/ prices

But fuck me it's cheap.

Here's the deal: just re-topped my workbench with "premium" plywood. I've course sanded, fine sanded, wood filled gaps, fine sanded again, shellac primered it, wood filled, fine sanded it again and put another coat of primer on. This is where it is now.

After all that, it still has these damn grooves. I plan on painting it with a hard epoxy paint, then maybe topping it with a pour on epoxy.

Will these smooth out with two coats of paint, or do I need to woodfill the whole surface?

I don't know about your epoxy paint, but as a rule of thumb, paint smoothes nothing. If possible, it accentuates all the blemishes.

>I'm new to electronics, where do I get started?
There are several good books and YouTube channels that are commonly recommended for beginners and those wanting to learn more, many with advanced techniques. The best way to get involved in electronics is just to make stuff. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty.

I'm making an electric vehicle with an onboard computer and some pretty expensive sensors. The voltage of the sensors is 12V (while the battery is 24V) and I want to add some protection to assure that the sensors will never be damaged by some misfortune.
Is a voltage regulator and a fuse enough to protect my devices? I thought about using a voltage clipper to remove any possible overvoltage and protect against reversed polarity

you mean sense side protection? use a zener diode and resistor. value for R1 is the lowest it can be without exceeding current rating of the diode.

as for supply side, just run another circuit on a regulator, a decent one with a high output rating will already have plenty of output suppression built in.

curious as to why you are using 12V sensors when the industry norm is to use 5V for everything besides mechanically switched circuits(lights, HVAC, etc). you could probably save a lot of cost and complexity that way.

Is there anything better than a composting toilet when it comes to off grid housing? It's really not appealing, I'm hoping for a middle measure between that and a full $30k septic system.

>$30k septic system.
Why is your system $30,000
If you're off-grid you should be able to do most of it yourself.
pvc to septic tank, pvc field lines one septic tank some digging and some gravel
>>
Do you run an off grid hotel? You can crap in a hole and it will be gone in a week. Just map out 28 squares for a family of 4 for a month.

Next month, use another 28 squares.

Month after go back to the first 28.

A worm farm should be able to process most of your crap and then a fish pond can eat the worms.

Look to India for assistance, billions of people have no toilets with only minor illness and poverty.

Anyone know anything about soundproofing interiors? I started working nights and I share a wall with an asshole who blasts music at 8 in the morning. Any ideas for a relatively inexpensive solution? I already wear earplugs and noise-cancelling earmuffs and I still get woken up.

I fermented some LIDL Vitafit Premium red grape juice with champagne yeast and even though it only just finished and hasn't cleared yet, I tried some and it's really good. Doesn't take as strong as commercial wine but has a good fruity flavor. But it's 99p a liter IIRC so it's expensive.
