>Because the world still needs heroes!
Good morning, /co/. I'm usually a fellow that supports an official release now and again, but today, I have to do the opposite.
For this weekend of Penance, we're going to investigate Mark Waid and Humberto Ramos recent disasterpiece. I haven't felt this angry reading an ongoing in a while in how much of a waste this book is a storytelling sense, but I digress.
Relax, /co/. It will all be over soon.
>>94037063
It is actually not that bad of a book.
Notice how every issue begins with a one-page spread foreshadowing something later in the book.
That's one page used out of your budget.
>>94037101
this there's no reason to do this
storytime one of those godawful DC crossovers instead
>>94037101
Is this bait?
Its the second worst series I've ever read, next to the America Chavez shit.
Another thing that drives me up a wall, is the use of beat panels, and the concept of page usage.
>>94037063
Fuck this book and fuck what it does to Viv.
>>94037063
Never read this one either. Anything i need to know before jumping in?
>>94037181
Viv was always shit desu
Oh, it is bad because its all legacy characters.Has Milo in it and Cyclops.
>>94037174
This happens in Watchmen as well. Actually happens in all comics. This has to be a fucking bait thread.
>>94037259
It's more in how Waid/Ramos utilize beat panels via copy/pasting and pacing being off for being extended too far. Facial Hair Bros paved the way for it's overusage.
Honestly, I liked the first issue, but it went down hill fast.
How come there wasn't FireRemender tier shitstorm over the way human trafficking was portrayed here?
>>94037408
because the Champions are #woke
>>94037101
This.
It is not bad at all. The writing is solid, art is fine, stories are perfectly acceptable. I find only the 'Not MuH SpIdErMaNs' crowd think this is a bad book due to all the new characters. Also it deals with social issues in a story arc and we know how that triggers the crazed 'no politics in my comics crowd'.
It is a fine book. This is just a thread dedicated to shit posting, not due to quality, but due to personal opinion.
Another large aspect of the series: Mood whiplash.
>>94037475
Wait a fucking second. I know this faggot. He's also defending Superior Spider-Man at every opportunity. Either he's a very dedicated troll or has some of the shittiest taste ever.
>>94037475
>The writing is solid
the writing is terrible and pretty much everyone agrees it's the worst version of all the characters, and I don't mean "It sucks because Miles is the worst Spider-man" I mean this is the worst Miles, the worst Sam, just the worst.
>>94037475
I think the premise of Champions is retarded, but the worst part of the execution itself is just how bland and unmemorable it is on the whole.
I think that you'd be better off storytiming America Chavez or the shitty guest art Aka Hellcat comic if you wanted an ANAD Marvel comic to Storytime of Pain.
>>94037572
Which issue is them pissing off muslims and then fucking off, leaving their women to get raped and stoned?
>>94037602
3 or 4 I think
>>94037415
>Leave no evidence
Yeah a crate full of mushed bodies is the definition of "no evidence".
>>94037602
I think that was the fourth or fifth issue
>>94037602
That's #3.
What am I reading? Since when was Kamala such a whiny fuck?
>>94037593
>I think the premise of Champions is retarded
I disagree, I feel like premise of teen heroes fighting mundane unglorified, non-fantastical crime is interesting and I think it'd be pretty good if someone with a good grip on gritty crime stories, like Brubaker, Wagner, Rucka or Azzarello wrote it. The problem is that the writing is not only Jack Chick levels of preachy, it's just unbelievably bad in every possible way.
Virginia didn't die for this.
>>94037063
This isn't so bad, if you want a true current Marvel SoP, then Storytime America
Here's the quote from Tom Brevoort.
>BREVOORT: This is the young Scott Summers pulled from the past. In my head, he’s kind of the first challenge the group faces. Which is to say that when they get together and start to do this, what they’re doing is not just putting together a superhero team, they’re more like activists. They’re making an inclusive statement that they mean to be for all members of their generation: it’s time to get together and stand up and fix the world. This is a message that goes out and people come in response to it. Cyclops shows up and goes, “Boy I love what you’re putting down, I’d like to be a part of it.” It’s kind of like Kid Hitler showing up at the door.
And so it begins.
Not sure whether to include these NEXT pages. The twitter grabs are...overzealous.
>>94037913
Whore!
Hey look, it's the page we just saw...again...
What was the point of that, you may ask?
Well, Waid did that tease becau
>>94037171
>>94037593
Stay tuned...
>>94037705
Waid legitimately cannot write a single one of these characters. Everyone acts out of normal characterisation in this
>>94037875
Fucking Kid Hitler
>>94037587
>everyone agrees
No, everyone does not. Just projecting your opinion on to others in order to make it seem as if you are right. This is a fucking troll thread based on disliking the characters and nothing more. It is more of the same 'diversity and change is evil' mental retardation that happens on /co/ daily. SoP something that is really bad, like Morrisons run on X-Men or Superior Spider-Man. This is just a bait thread because the opinion is generally split when it comes to this book and it has Mulsims in it so the fucking bigoted morons can jump in and talk shit.
Obvious bait is obvious.
>>94038087
Looks like you got beat to it. >>94038108
>>94038259
>Muslims
>>94038270
que lastima
>>94038259
Have a (You) and begone
>>94038259
The opinion on this book around /co/ is not split. The overwhelming majority of people here is that Champions is bad.
The guy storytiming it isn't trying to bait anyone. He just wants something him and few other anons can laugh at.
>>94038259
>like Morrisons run on X-Men
To make your bait good you have to make it believable enough that someone could hold those opinions.
>>94038259
>Morrisons run on X-Men
>Bad
Fuck off
Solicits for this issue.
>Dead set on proving themselves, the Champions are faced with their first no-win scenario — and how it plays out will reveal a whole new side to certain members.
>>94038418
Whose hand was that supposed to be? I remember some people thinking it was Mania, but whoever it belonged to definitely didn't show up
Ramos' art has never looked this bad. It's the inker's fault right?
>>94038339
Morrison is a pretentious twat who tried too hard and admittedly tried to fuck the X-Men over. Hence so much of his run being non-existent.
Sometimes art quality is all over the place. Silvestri was an inspired choice to display the noxious, shitty future of the final part of the story, though
Marvel's shittiest supervillain John Sublime
Convoluted plot is convoluted
There is so much mustache twirling the entire event becomes some kind of metajoke
Cassandra goes from being the apparent big bad (and being damn good at it) to become a slimy alien anus with the mental capacity of a pocket calculator. It was great, but also somewhat underwhelming considering further revelations
Toad needs to fuck off and die already
The Shi'ar storyline is plot fluff of the worst kind
Fantomex is such a terrible character
The Weapon Plus arc is worthless bullshit and a cosmic waste of time
As it happens, Wolverine learns a big deal about his past during his SPACE ADVENTURES with Fantomex (worthless bullshit of a character), but the impact is lost on the reader due to shoddy, ineffective writing and more pressing circumstances
Jean Grey keeps being nothing but a walking McGuffin. Sigh
Magneto, the most cunning, regal supervillains in Marvel's huge rooster of baddies, is turned into a soft minded, pathetic junkie. Shit was bad enough for Marvel to retcon it at a later date.
Xorn is shit and worthless.
You Morrisonfags will defend anything he does. Protip: He is not the perfect writer and you can get off his pretentious, overrated nuts.
Reminder that at the time, Atlantis was razed by the Squadron Supreme.
>>94038545
>all of those shitty opinions
Holy shit. Have a (You) and fuck off,
>>94038635
>Sovereign Airspace

Why is it that every book that uses Gwenpool not penned by Hastings is trash?
Sorry for disrupting, Norrin. I can't get enough of this little troll.
>>94038795
Shitpost some more, baby. It turns me on.
I don't know about anyone else, but if this was marketed as a parody, I would bet money that it would be praised.
>>94038922
Do these fuckers only help minorities?
So, why this is supposed to be bad?
>>94038989
Exactly.
It is not. It is just a shit post thread for the /pol/tards who come to /co/ to whine about diversity and legacy characters.
>>94039024
This do not help me.
I really just wanted some legitimate opinions. I never read the Champions and I do not care about your quarrel.
>>94039135
Have you read any of the books that the characters come from? The main problem is that everyone is out of regular character. In her solo, Kamala is never acting as a loud mouthpiece to directly talk to the reader. In the early Cho-Hulk issues, he was not a "Bro," but a very smart person. Viv in this is an entirely different Viv from Visionwith an example being that she has a crush on a boy in that book, and appears to swear off men in this
>>94039135
Long story short the writing is shit. Plots are mediocre and get dropped harder than Waid was as a kid, characters are all out of character and used mostly as sanctimonious preachy mouthpieces.
>>94039218
I have read the first two stories now. Reminds me New Warriors. They are definitely low tech and low resources.
>>94039218
Actually Cho, per Pak's run, has developed into something of a 'dude bro' since he has become the Hulk. The characterization of Chulk is right on. He no longer acts super smart since becoming Hulk (which I think is done on purpose for a future story line). Miles and Nova are done on point as well. I cannot speak for the other boring characters involved.
>>94037171
You haven't read a lot of comics then.
Do educate yourself over this weekend.
I suggest you start with The Unfunnies or Girls, if someone started that one yet.
>>94039072
Bad characterizations for everyone?
Hamhandedness that makes Garth Ennis at his preachiest sound subtle and nuanced? Shit dialogue? Shit art? Disjointed plot? Trying to tackle serious issues in the most infantile ways possible? (see human trafficking and the terrorists)
>>94037145
>terrorists destroy shit
>we must fix it because reasons
>booo i quit
People wrote this
>>94039296
I'd actually read those than Champions. Those are at least bad in a funny way.
>>94037259
Are you seriously comparing this book to Watchmen? I know you're baiting and I know I'm taking it, but fuck you. That's over the line.
>>94037171
Then you really should read some of the other Storytimes of Pain, because this doesn't even hold a candle to things like Marville.
I do not know much about Ms. Marvel, the new Hulk or Vision girl, so I'm not really able to tell if the characters are right or wrong, in any case we are in Bendis era, where no one cares.
I generally like Waid, characters apart, do not seem so badly written, to me. It's street level heroes teenagers trying to do something good.
The shooter game was nice, they are little kids, after all.
I feel so woke now.

>>94037111
>Plush toys

>>94037240
It's Mark Waid going full teen social justice, being a complete retard about it, and fucking up the characterizations of the characters from their solos.
I'm done.Not because it's that bad. It isn't. It's just boring. I can't stop yawning.
>>94039772
That's honestly how I feel about most of the Big Two stuff lately. I seriously get more enjoyment out of when this book goes full retard more than when it just spins its wheels with bland shit.
>>94039719
Triggered so much.
>>94039772
This is supposed to be entertainment, being boring is the worst it can be.
>>94037602
As fucked up as that issue was, credit where credit is due. They actually show islamic fundamentalist fuckheads BEING islamic fundamentalist fuckheads. It's super rare to see that.
>>94037306
Yeah, first issue was alright. Nothing great, but it had potential.
Then issue two came out
>>94038859
Because meta comedy is harder than it looks.
I bet Duggan could do a good job with her.
>>94037101
Its not a good book, but not nearly as shit as other storytime of pain books.
>>94039946
sure but it's not insulting or infuriating like most SoP comic books are.
>>94039393
Be fair. Almost NOTHING holds a candle to marville.

You had a chance to give your thumbnail of the book, but all you've got is low effort bitching.
>>94039377

No, really, you need to go read the unfunnies.
It's not called storytime of pain for no reason.

OP are have you storytimed that comic where someone kicks a bear in the dick?

I haven't seen it this weekend. It's a perenial favorite, because of it's combination of incredibly unlikable cast members, complete fucking idiots, ridiculous porno zombie appocalypse situations, and bizzare, bilateral sexual politics.
It's a huge book though.
For you newfags, don't miss it. It's not as bad as the terrible 3, but it's a truly unique experience.

I did. Millar being an edgy cunt is always hilarious.
>>94037782
>>94037174

The Unfunnies, Marville and Trouble?

Remeber, Red Locust is a totally original character, trademark of Marvel Characters, Inc.
The biggest complaint is that it's too preachy, enough to the point where some of the stories seem to come right from an episode of Captain Planet. The Evil Champions especially where they are run by the EVIL corporation are pretty bad, and the fact that their villains are RACISM and MICRO-AGGRESSIONS are particularly ham fisted

Wait, no she didn't. She created an illusion -- and then you just punched the wall in and beat everybody up. This is the single weirdest fuckup of chekov's gun I've ever seen. I've seen shit introduced for no reason other than to be reintegrated later, but I've never seen a story retroactively lie about that introduction.

It's not that i think Champions is good. It's not. But that's nothing really notable, dozens of bad comics are published weekly.

Not very good, sure, but not TRULY terrible like other comics getting posted

FUCK YOU, YOU SELF-RIGHTEOUS BRATS
You're acting like you were forced into going to war, when in fact, you dumb kids enthusiastically volunteered. You don't get to call it "this dumb war" when you participated in it and took active sides, attacking the Triskelion for no reason.
Also, the "war" sure as fuck didn't break the world, Marvel really exaggerated how much of an effect it had on anything. In reality it was meaningless.
>>94039135
It is very, very bad. Ramos' art is horrible as usual, the characters range from painfully obvious mouthpieces to complete flanderizations, all of them having their developement thrown out of the window. The reason for the creation of the team is ridiculous given what happens in the book, the issues they deal with are presented in a simplistic way that does not help the narrative at all. The worst part for me is Waid's attempts to emulate kids or seeming "hip". It's straight up unbearable.
