I remember some brave soul storytimed Dixon and Grayson's run in prep for that moment.

It's really fascinating to see Grayson's writing go downhill.
Her writing was actually pretty okay for the first dozen or so issues but starts going downhill once she gets that idea of ruining Dick's life, and then never got to build it back up.

Basically, Dick was slated to die in Infinite Crisis via edict from Didio. Jason was supposed to be the lead in this comic with Bruce Jones writing. Then Didio was swayed from killing Dick by Johns and somebody.

So Jones had to redo his entire story and insert Dick into it.
