Happy New Years /tg/, lets have a nice worldbuilding thread about the equivalents to BC/AD in your setting. What was *that* event, go into as much detail as you want.

>>
Generally from what I've seen it is the pre- and post- formation of a grand empire that affected the world's economy drastically.

Or some great war doing the same.
>>
A classic for science fiction is Pre and Post-Atomic, where the focal point is 1945. I'm tempted to use that for my setting, but I think I'm going to be boring and use the founding of the Galactic Concord or the reconstruction after the Great Galactic War.

The choice between a Concord calendar and the Reconstruction calendar kind of depends on how bad I want the war to go. I kind of intend for there to be a Reinassance as the great trade lanes are reestablished and the galaxy starts to rebuild. At the same time I don't want the founding of the Concord, and it's force of translators who could allow the aliens to communicate with each other and finally bring galactic diplomacy and trade to fall by the wayside.

It's for this reason that I put that on the backburner and tried working on making more aliens.

I use this same thing. Based on a big empire on the continent with annotations based on the POV of the historian since there is no global empire yet..

How exactly do more narrative-driven systems handle combat? Do they deal damage based on numbers, do they have "wound degrees", levels of shit getting real?
11 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
I'd assume you mean diceless systems?

There would never be a number value anywhere in the system, so that probably leads to having descriptions of wounds.
>>
>>44496375
no, dice do take place in this question

Fate Accelerated/Core, then?

Take the difference between the Attack and Defense rolls + their relevant Skills/Aspects/Stunts, and this is called Shift.

The Shift, if still a positive value (successful hit), must be "absorbed" by a Stress or Consequence box. When these boxes are full, you're fuckin' outta that fight (you can forfeit sooner to avoid taking Consequences, but...)

Stress is protecting you from the Consequences, so use your Stress boxes first. If you start using your Consequence boxes to detain damage, you will suffer having an Aspect related to the type of attack and other details. Having a "Slashed Up Shoulder" will mean the enemy could invoke this new Aspect to their benefit, because you couldn't block incoming attacks well, or whatever.

That is about as self-contained an explanation as I can muster

Is there any good reason to separate "faeries," "nature spirits," and "elementals" in a setting?
25 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Well, elementals also see use as a separate wizardy thing that doesn't have much to do with faeries and nature, at least in D&D (except when it does) and similar.

That being said, I still recall a campaign where my druid tried to communicate with a raging water elemental because I figured it meant that nature was out of balance and would need to be calmed, only to be smashed in the face due to it being a different kind of elemental (the one from the elemental plane of water, summoned by some random asshole to cause assholity). I'm still salty about that so I'll say no, that's stupid.
>>
If your setting is large enough to demand that you not only separate demons from devils but to also include subgroups within demons and devils alongside yugoloths and uncategorized generic fiends, I think it makes sense to go ahead and split those three you mentioned.
>>
Well they come from different planes/realms, so if there's going to be any dimension hopping there's a bit of a distinction.

If not, there are certain spells and abilities (eg druid elemental wildshape) that are going to require a distinction.

As for faeries, the fey realm is one of the more popular backstory stuffers.

What is your idea for your setting?

Personally I prefer goblins for the "bat-like humanoid role." Mainly because it seems more natural for them to have absurd-looking noses, which is pretty much the best reason to have bat-ish people around.

Well, the fruit bats that OP is suggesting that elves evolved from typically don't have the weird sound-focusing nose frills, or at least less prominent ones. So it could be a case of elves being descended from the fruit eaters and goblins being descended from the insectivores.

I'm looking for a (preferably) rules-light system that would allow me to flavor it as a Metal Gear Solid tabletop.

The players would all be footsoldiers or agents of one of the various MGS Organizations (FOX, MSF, Diamond Dogs, FOXHOUND, Philanthropy) which would determine alliance/mission objectives/technology available, and being able to assign bonuses based on the organization would be cool.

Anybody know of a system that would help out here? Doesn't matter if it's anything official or not.

Additionally, some mission objectives would be a welcome method of bumping the thread if you feel like flexing your creativity.

Additionally, a friend referred me to a system called PDQ (Prose-Descriptive Quality) for this idea, but it seemed like it was *too* non-specific when it came to things a character could/couldn't do. The last thing I'm looking for is

I'm looking for art work of Pulp settings, Retro Futurism, Diesel Punk, Noire, B-Movies and other stuff set in the 1930's - 1950's.

About to run an only war campaign and want some ideas on how to enrich the role playing experience.

I was thinking maybe putting some background noises during certain situations such as combat.

Would appreciate some input and different things I can do
