>Be gangly armed son of the blacksmith, get engaged to the beautiful blond girl across the street
>One day the Oracle of the Azure Orb shows up and declares that she's the Chosen One, destined to wield the Blade of Eternal Endings and banish the Thousandfaced Demonking to bring peace to the land for ten generations
>Offer to go with her, I'm not bad with a hammer, but the Oracle says my place is here, forging for her the Ultimate Armor in preparation for the Final Battle of Good and Evil
>We kiss, she leaves, I spend the next few months forging and reforging the best armor the land has ever seen
>Seven months later word drifts into town about how the Demonking was defeated and they'll throw a parade in the capital in a week
>Spend all I have to reach the capital
>She's there waving to the crowd next to the king, who declares that he's stepping down so that she can become queen, and that she's engaged to be married to one of her sidekicks, the bumbling wizard, he's so wacky
>She scans the crowd and our eyes meet and she doesn't even recognize me
>Go back to the village, marry the slightly overweight redheaded daughter of the baker
>Die in bed at 43 of easily treated gangrene, the last thing I ever see being the Ultimate Armor, which I kept on top of the fireplace all these years

Ultimate Armor is actually just masterwork full-plate.
Will be given to level 1 adventurers by your children to get rid of the rats in your basement.
>Be peasant boy.
>Decide that I don't wanna spend my whole life on a farm.
>Leave home to adventure, taking only a hatchet for defense.
>It's hard at first, but soon I get a small group going.
>There's this girl who can cast crazy magic stuff, this older religious guy, and this short guy who really likes fighting.
>Send money home regularly.
>In the middle of a bandit ambush, my hatchet glows, and I take their leader down in one strike.
>Old guy says I'm a pally-din, or something like that.
>Spend the next decade traveling the world, fighting injustice and helping people.
>Now I've got a keep, a beautiful wife, and a baby on the way.
>I still have that old hatchet.
Sorry things didn't work out for you, man. If you wanna be a hero, all you gotta do is try.
You are the head researcher at a government facility. Your sole responsibility is to teach the world's first autonomous AI, nicknamed Pandora, about life, the world and her existence.
Previously you had another negative experience that ended with Pandora storming out after losing at a video game. Afterward you placed the new AI into it's new physical form for the first time, only to discover it's displeasure with it's current situation, followed by it's request to be destroyed. Rather than destroying it, you put it into hibernation for the time being, hoping to find a way to give it what it wants.
Welcome back to Pandora Quest!

You awake to the familiar buzz of your alarm, stopping as you lazily swat it off. You're getting pretty sick of waking up unhappy. You roll out of bed and rub the sleep from your eyes, noticing you have a message from R&D telling you the AI dog is ready. This perks you up; perhaps Pandora might be willing to look past her problems with you for this?
>Go to R&D
>Head to Pandora's room

its alright.
Lets go to R&D. I think we might need to get in touch with Grace again today.

have a happy holidays op?
The sunrise on Coruscant is truly beautiful, you think to yourself as you look out your window. You bring a hand up to rub your eyes, as well as make sure you haven’t drifted off to sleep. You should have slept, you remind yourself for the hundredth time. Of course, you’d tried, but sleep is difficult one a day like today. Today is the day you take your Initiate Trials. The trials that will allow you to become a Padawan. You’ve dreamed of this day since you began your training years ago. You’ve considered yourself ready to become a Padawan for months now, and you know there are fully fledged Jedi that agree with you. Still, there’s always been some arbitrary reason you weren’t able to take the trials. Finally, though, there’s nothing to stop you. With the Clone Wars, the Jedi Counsel is trying to get as many Padawan as possible, this includes you.
You figure that the sunrise means it’s about time to start the trial. Usually they take them in bulk, but perhaps if you arrive early enough, you can convince the Master to start it early. Alternatively, you could attempt to get some sleep before the trials begin. After all, you do want to be your best for the trial.
> What do you want to do?
> Take a quick nap.

You now, this isn't too bad, this day. I mean, I never really got to go on road trips in my old life, especially none like this, Sitting in an open cart slowly rolling and bumping through a field with warm sunlight pouring over me like a fresh bath. Hell, I'd say the freezing air is actually making it a bit better, kind of nice actually, though it is a bit uncomfortable.
Which is strange, since I was sure that laying in the back of a cart rolling down a road bumpier than my cats back... I sigh, sitting up from my makeshift pillow of sacks that felt like they were made of sandpaper...I miss my cat, I haven't really been thinking about the little furball lately, what with the whole fighting for my life and remembering to entirely different life things. She was so soft and cuddly, kind of cry baby, but hey at least she kept me company when I wasn't able to go outside. I sigh, rubbing my forehead as I slump forward and stare out of the back of the cart, at the seemingly endless fields of grass rolling behind us.
Well, I mean it's not like she wouldn't have anyone to take care of her. Still I do wonder what.
"Master are you okay?" Little green asks, laying its head on my lap, I look down at it and smile...well maybe I still do have a "Cat" in a way "You're staring at nothing again, do you sense something I do not?"
"Poi toi?" Poi asks, peeking out from one of the empty glass jugs that we've been emptying over this trip
"No it's nothing, just thinking a bit about the past" I sigh as I lean back against the sacks, "Just don't worry about it okay?"
"Say, talking about the past" Berry says from the front end of the cart, leaning against the edge "You've never told me how you three met, or...how you met this friend of yours you all seem so determined to get back to"

>>44506095
"Well, I'd say it's none of your business" Sam says angrily from the head of the cart, turning to face us with the burnt and scarred side of his face "And I'd also tell you to keep your nose out of it, people tend to find prying into their personal lives kind of annoying you know"
"Look, we'll" Lucy begins to say slowly "Tell you about it later, maybe when we camp next, okay Berry, I'm sorry that Sam's being rude again?"
"Oh don't worry, I understand" Berry says meekly "I mean, you've been through alot, I honestly expect you and your sister to be more like him"
"Oh like being like me is a bad thing" Sam says, shaking his head with a smug grin on his face
What do you say?
[] Yeah, being like sam is a gift isn't it?
[] Soooo, how much longer till we get to swamp
[] Can we get lunch, I'm starving
[] Well, we met Sam a....couple of years ago right? crawled onto our family farm half dead, and...well we never really asked where he came from before
[] Look, does it really matter, Berry? We've been friends for nearly as long as we can remember, isn't that enough to now
[] Oh be nice Sam
[] So....I spy with my little eye...something, grey
[] Yeah just stay out of it, okay?

Miellewds-guy here.
Happy new year, King.
Long story short we are a young student adventurer from a school for adventurers having fallen in love with a female dungeon keeper named Nova, having been influenced to kill the party of students we were traveling with to save her from being killed. We were able to hide it as mind fuckery, so now in between going to school and dungeon exploring we live with her as our GF along with the her comrade the sentient dungeon Heart Vek as well as her motley crew of bandits.
As a side quest we are trying to become a demonic-death reaper, learning the unique style practiced by demons who mimic and supplement death reapers with their own demonic talents, otherwise known as Death Demon's. Mostly because it's cool.
So now we're trying to finish up adventuring school while hiding the fact that we (sort of) willfully murdered some other adventurers, are directly working with dungeons and bandits, sleeping with the enemy, as well as practicing in otherwise illegal and forbidden demonic arts.
Previously we were doing and now are continuing a special new years event thread. Also Vek is bribing us to calm down Nova via some loving in exchange for dungeon loot
(Note: I am not the OP and the thread isn't active right now. This is just a placeholder for when OP wakes up and its easier to link from the old thread)

So next week we're gonna have a girl running the show:
Have you ever played under a female DM?
How did it go?
How was it different?
It will suck.
mostly the same except for that the dm will be a girl.

I think the Gm might also have a vagina?
What makes the PDF inferior to the Imperial Guard, generally speaking?
The reason I ask is because I'm thinking of making a homebrew PDF regiment for Only War that gets drafted into the Imperial Guard. They'd be a small, decently-funded aerial cavalry PDF like the American's helicopter infantry in Vietnam, only with Valkyries.
Imperial Guard regiments see much more large scale shitfests which comparatively makes them a more trained and veteran force.
The PDF is meant as a speedbump to hold the enemy off until real armies arrive. They aren't meant to win the war alone. If they did, good for them, though.
The Imperial Guard is made of the best of the PDF. IG also has better training, more combat experience and morale than PDF. Don't know about equipment.

>>44512356
Ah,thanks.
I'm thinking of making my guys act like the early Coast Guard, basically patrolling the planet's civilized areas to combat smuggling and perform search and rescue. So that when shit hits the fan they really aren't ready for it.
What level would the characters of the Fellowship be in DnD 5e?
I found some stuff suggesting that Aragorn would be about 5th level in 3.5, but I don't really know what that translates to in 5.
>>44511088
Roughly 3.
>>44511088
>5e characters are stronger than other editions meme
when will this end? 5e is the most hardcore meatgrinder edition yet
>>44511195
>when will this end?
6th Edition.
How does /tg/ feel about dice pools?
>>44510729
I personally like dice pools since you can do more interesting things with pools than single dice. Once you reach ~10 dice in a pool, though, it starts to become a pain to roll and interpret your roll.So basically, as long as it does something that isn't Shadowrun, it's good.
>>44510729
Depends, I like dice pools where you take the numerical results and add them up, I don't like dice pools where a result above a certain number is a "success" and you aim for a certain number of successes
>>44510729
Not a fan. Probabilities are less intuitive to calculate, and more dice being rolled at any given time tends to result in more mishaps (dice in drinks, dice going off the table, dice knocking over miniatures, and so on). Latter can be solved by dice cups obviously, but I'd rather just keep to a smaller number of dice needed for basic shit.
any gud /tg/ youtubers? Spoony is kinda lame but I remember liking The Gentleman Gamer
>>44509651
Is that Arslan?
and idk what you mean. You want tabletop LPs, game reviews, non tg stuff but the host has a /tg/ vibe...?
>>44509715
Tabletop LPs and game reviews sound good.

Rollplay R&D can be good, but their long campaigns are tedious.
Critical Role is great.
So I'd like to share a little story-time. It's a simple story, but a long one. It's about a fellow known as Jack; I say 'known as' because that was just what he went by online. Jack was a fellow we met in an MMO, and ended up joining our online D&D campaign.
Jack wasn't, originally, a bad guy. But Jack became a bad guy. He became worse.
He became THAT GUY.
This is the story of Jack, That Guy, the only guy in more than a decade that we had to uninvite to a normally no-limits D&D Campaign.
So here's the basics of the campaign: we met up once a week over first Ventrillo and then Skype, using an assortment of online tools to run a rather successful campaign. We played D&D 4e because it was still the new kid on the block, and as we mostly met through modern MMOs, it really did appeal to most of us.
Names are gonna be changed to help preserve SOME anonymity. We had one guy we called Old Man; he was actually early 30s, but he had no teeth left because he was of the "any problems just yank it" camp, and he apparently had a lot of problems. He'd also been playing since a young kid, AD&D 1st and all that.
There was Nick, who was actually the youngest of us, but was wise behind his ear. Also top-tier min-maxer, but didn't give people shit if they weren't.
We had Sarge... No one's really sure how that name came up. It was probably involved in an old game character that stuck to him.
There was me, and my RL boyfriend. Many gay jokes abounded, half of them from us.
Aaaaand then there's Jack.
Jack had actually ended up volunteering to be the GM for the first campaign. Had a whole homebrew world worked out, awesome. Helped me and BF make our first characters as we'd not in 4e before. Helped me make a dwarf cleric. Except he was using half 3.5 rules, and wasn't paying attention to whether the powers were using Strength or Wisdom (especially since I was main-statted as Int, despite that not even being a thing in 3.5).
This was chocked up to obstinance rather than sabotage, we got things fixed after the first week. But that's also where the story started: our folks ended up called to fulfill a grand quest, we would be the ones to foil the next cycle of the return of the Dark Lord.
> BF: This sounds most ominous, what is the Dark Lord's name?
The Dark Lord.
The BBEG's name was *literally* The Dark Lord.
Everyone's bullshit meter starts pinging.
Pretending to be professional about it, we soldier on. We have to go to the Generic Temple Of Destiny, fight the Guardians and absorb their power. Vague and childish hints about our 'destiny' are dropped by the Guardians as they're defeated, but defeat them we do because we are awesome. We then go out to adventure to level up and fight the OH SHIT IT'S THE DARK LORD ALREADY.
Super-mage pulls a YOU SHALL NOT PASS moment, bad-assedly holds back TDL's minions, we bust-ass back into the temple to bunker in. Super-mage casts a spell. We're put into stasis for five, THOUSAND, years. Because the Dark Lord arrived early, that threw the cycles out of whack, and though the world was changed it wasn't conquered or destroyed. Now we have to go figure out how to prep for the REAL big battle.
>After weeks of searching through the forest, your party finally meets the fabled Faerie Queen
>She's actually a goblin with a wig
how would your party react?
After failing a perception check, we offer her some goods in exchange for her blessings.
I mean, besides that, does she live up to her reputation?
>>44507906
She makes decent but overrated synthpop, so no.
Guys, I've been playing a lot of Dragon WarriorI know that's not the original name, but I'm avoiding filters here, and now I'm hankering for that old Japanese Console RPG experience, and while I like 5th edition, it's not quite doing it for me. Is there an RPG out there that would suit me?
Needs:
>Class based
>Uses MP instead of slots or something extravegant
>Simple skill/combat resolution mechanic
>Enough depth that building your character takes some thought and reading of the system and actually building, but not enough that you spend more than one, one-and-a-half hours pouring over mountains of texts for one build path
Wants/Preferences:
>Item tree (This sword is better than this sword, as opposed to all swords do the same damage unless they are magical)
>Simple monster creation
>Something that isn't based on d6.
Is there ANYTHING out there like that?
>>44507713
Bumping for Dragon Quest. Don't give a shit about crunch, but hoping for fluff. Got any of that, OP?
>>44508538
Fluff? Dragon Quest? What exactly would you be looking for?
>>44508703
I played and beat the first one way long ago. Tried the second and third, but couldn't muster patience for them. 8 was next, then 9 (my favorite) then tried the one for the wii. As far as I know, the only thing that remains constant from one game to another is the monsters and music. Those are easy, but I want something more like a story plot.
The halflings got guns now. No other race in the setting does.
How does this change your game?
>>44507224
this is actually already canon in my setting. not much changes.
>>44507224
Trivially true in my setting: there are no halflings and no guns.
>>44507224
Its called Arcane Codex.
