You stare openly at the older, bird-like woman.

"You know what I am?" You ask.
"I -might- know what you are" She says. "It is a slight, but distinct difference"
"Oh..." You say. That kind of kills your hopes.

"Don't look so down, boy" She says. "There are a few books in here that could shed some light on things, if you'll lend me a hand"

"I-"
"Excellent!" She says, as she steps away. The way she walks is weird, and her talons make an odd noise on the wood floors.

Kieve walks in between a pair of bookshelves and out of sight, but pops her head back out. "Coming?"
"Oh, uhh... yes" You say.

You follow her between the bookshelves, and with an outstretched wing she points out books she wants you to grab off the shelf.

"I need that one, and that one, aaaaand that one" She says, pointing to each one in turn. They're heavy books, but they don't give you any trouble. "God, it's so nice to have someone with hands to help me out again"
"You had someone before?" You ask.
"A friend of mine who used to work with me" She says. "I suppose colleague is a better word"

You grab several more books, until the stack in your hands is tall enough that you think it might topple over.

"Just put those on the desk, while I get set up" She says.

You place the books on the desk, and then look around. Something bugs you, but you can't quite place it...

The last day or so has been rather hectic for you. In addition to discovering Blue’s betrayal you were then set upon by Hiss for spending too much time loafing about while everyone else was preparing. It didn’t take long for her to bundle you up on a cart and have you shipped off with everyone else.

And that’s where you are right now, sitting atop a wagon. A wagon in an entire chain of wagons no less with Hiss’ breathing corpses marching on either side. Everywhere you look you can see the dead, snakes and humans either marching or tending to carts not unlike your own. The host left Melire behind several hours ago and is travelling north towards Taldenral. It’s actually happening. There is going to be war.

You slide yourself off the moving cart and only stumble a little. You’re not getting anything done just sitting down. Where do you go?

Lovedagger 40k.
Corruption, despair, and especially decadence and decline are more widespread threats than outright war.

So who would take the place as the weakest Chaos God if that happened?

If we want to take this further, then let's change the positions of the 2nd and 3rd strongest gods.

Fun fact: I threw in Weapon Training +20 (Atlatl) on my RT character sheet, as kind of a random "might be useful once" type of deal, and the GM let it in. The logic for the character was that on his home world, the traditional hunting implement is the Atlatl when sport hunting, and my RT loves sport hunting, and was the best thrower in his city before joining the Guard as a Corporal (and eventually working his way up to Colonel, then "granted" RT status), and he always kept up the tradition as a way of keeping in touch with his heritage.

Atlatls are fuck-easy to make, and very effective to use in a pinch when little else is available.

I have a story for you, the tale of the one and only time I ever felt afraid while playing a DnD campaign. I'm not much of a GM I'm afraid, so please excuse my writing.

A couple of months ago, I was invited to join a short campaign hosted by a good friend of mine. Let's call him Gerald.

Gerald is one of my favorite GM's. He knows when to let the players run wild, and he knows when to reign them back in. He sets up consistently good adventures, and when coupled with his excellent range of voices and impressive improv. skills, you'll find yourself having fun at his table no matter what.

So when I heard he was running a one-shot event, I cleared up my schedule to go and play with him on a rainy Saturday.

I was the last person to arrive. Counting Gerald and myself, there were six people in the room. Our characters were already rolled up beforehand, seeing as we had about four hours to start and complete a game.

I had a rogue who joined up with the other characters, a stereotypical fighter, a female cleric, a wizard, and a ranger.

We started out in the back of a rickety cart driven by an old hick. Our little party had been formed beforehand at the request of a nameless benefactor who had handpicked each of us for the mission. (This plot point was never wrapped up, but it didn't matter for reasons that will become more obvious later on.) Our mission was to purge an ancient solitary manor of the "evil that possessed it." Hence the long ride to the middle of nowhere.

After nearly an hour of in-game time (we had a little while to converse among ourselves and roleplay a bit. Gerald loves letting players personalities bounce off of one another) we finally arrived at the old manor. The peasant pulling the cart accepted his payment and made a holy sign with his hands before departing hastily.

The five of us walked up to the manor door and knocked.

AND THEN A SKELETALS POPPED OUT
>>
Are you telling me that was it

After knocking loudly, the two oak doors slowly creaked open. At this point, we players all shared bemused looks. We knew what was about to happen, or so we thought.

We entered the manor warily, with the fighter walking first and the cleric bringing up the rear. We had considered leaving a party member of two outside, but we knew that the inevitable was about to happen, so we all entered the manor through the tall doorway.

The doors swung shut.

We all rolled our eyes internally, and the ranger went over to the doors and tried to open them again. To our immense surprise, they opened up again, but the view was not the same as before.

Instead of plain fields and wide forests, the outside of the manor was a seemingly infinite expanse of rocks and small cliffs.

After making a group decision, the ranger carefully stepped back outside, and waited. He walked around for a bit, and nothing happened. Shrugging, the ranger walked back inside the house. We closed the doors, but kept one propped open with a bit of "driftwood" just in case.

The manor had three floors and a basement from what we had been told. In front of us was a grand staircase, so we figured going upstairs might be a good start. As we did so, we began noticing how fine the interior of the manor once was. Small marble statues and precious figurines were scattered everywhere, expensive honeywax candles lighted our way. Seeing as I was the degenerate rogue, I stole a few jewel-encrusted figurines for good measure, cringing internally as I did so. To not steal them would be meta-gaming, so I was forced to take the risk. The wizard took a candle, and we ascended the fine stairway.

A long hallway stretched out on both sides, and we split up to check the rooms. Most were uninteresting, living rooms and storage rooms and the like. And then we heard a scream.

What are some semi realistic monsters that should be able to live in cold climates. I m talking about strong motherfuckers that should be a match for a dragon.
By semi realistic I mean that they should not be reptiles, but there is a magic in setting so some things can work. For example a ice dragon for this kind of a setting does not make sense, but giant wolves do (but wolves are scrubs compared to dragons).
Also you can post any prehistoric animal that lived during Ice age because it could be a good inspiration for a homebrew cold monsters.

I don't have the picture myself but I've seen it posted a few times.

There's another picture set around as well - it's of a cold-climate semi-aquatic monster with its seasonal biological changes illustrated .

Orcas would fit in nicely as well. Considering their intelligent hunting strategies, with a little scaling up a pod might be able to tackle a dragon.

You should probably consider questions like
>What does it eat?
>How does it obtain what it eats?
>What does it compete with when obtaining food?

A truly enormous creature like in your picture would need a truly enormous amount of food to stay functional. Polar bears have enough trouble and they're not much larger than people.

Are there any systems out there that make movement an important part of melee combat? Backing away, flanking and strafing, lunging in, that sort of thing. A lot of the time it seems to only be good for closing in on the guy you want to slug it out with for a couple a turns.
