Glorianna vs Enterprise D.jpg
464KB, 2501x911px
Does the Glorianna have the advantage through sheer bulk, the amount of void shields, armor and mass?

The amount of shit the Enterprise's phasers and torpedoes can cut through is just so thick. And assuming they can even pinpoint a critical reactor that could actually cripple a ship the size of Manhattan island AND teleport through all those different shields, could they even assemble an away team capable of fighting it's way through a population of angry muscly slaves and cyborgs who know nothing but anal cramps and war?

Could the Entrprise even withstand a barrage from the smaller caliber Macro Cannons?

Could Picard negotiate a peaceful solution with them?

>>
>>47099078

Why would you need to assemble an away team, beaming a proton torpedo directly adjacent to the main reactors on a ten second timer would do your job just as well.
>>
>>47099110
That's if you can:

-Find the reactor, one of hundreds against the background radiation of kilometers of machinery that nobody has bothered to mask for centuries

-Beam through about ten different kinds of shields designed to ward off attacks in the tens of megatons ranges

-AND get close enough to teleport through a barrage of AA that is denser than LA Traffic on a Friday afternoon.
>>
>>47099110
Yeah, if only transporters were affected by shields and metal thickness.
Oh, wait....
While we're at it, beaming explosives is a pretty inefficient way of destroying things, since you can use a transporter as a directed energy weapon

Nope
>>

So what would be the average form of communication device a civilian might have access to?
>>
>>47098565
Depends on the world. Dataslates may have communicators and various programs in them, and there are miniaturised communication devices as well.
On the more advanced side, AdMech operates 'manifolds' that facilitate virtual reality and mind-to-mind communication for all participants.

The Start of a New World.jpg

Five years ago, the world was changed for you forever in a flash of blue radiance. This strange event bestowed wondrous powers on you and many others. Even if there were ones before, this new generation of heroes and villains was unprecedented in size. Your powers almost netted you enough money to pull you out of poverty, but you just couldn't bring yourself to steal. Your job already lost, you soon lost your apartment, leaving you on the street.

Three years ago, the same blue light shined worldwide in an event known as "The Pow Boom". If you were still a writer for a newspaper, you would have slapped the guy who came up with that name. Unfortunately it stuck. Governments changed, the International Heroes Union collapsed as law enforcement were also affected by the surge in Supers. Ten percent of the population had just gained powers for better or worse, and the US has been working on legislation. The newest is an anonymous, voluntary catalog of powers, but Congress hasn't agreed on Supers for years.

Through all this, you continued to help others as a vigilante, saving people as you found them and stopping muggers. One guy even gave you a used car a few months ago because you saved him from a fire. The surge in people doing the same means you have no name yet, but those you saved simply call you the angel in the shadows. Not exactly catchy, but flattering all the same. Then, suddenly, the world cared, naming you Scribe after an impressive display of power that you had no idea would work. You are Raphael Gaus, and the year is 2023.

You open your eyes and are greeted by splashes of color in vague shapes of objects, your head aching little more than average. That's the first thing that strikes you as strange, normally when you push too far your head feels like it was run through a vice. Curiously reaching your hand to the back of your head, you feel a bit of a gooey substance back there. A quick examination of your blurry hand proves your suspicion that you didn't just pass out, blood is smeared over it like a painted canvas.

Your sight eventually clears and you can see that this is someone's living room, and someone old at that. It's cloistered with antiques, cozies, and more than a few grandfather clocks. Searching the room, you see some stairs heading up to what you'd imagine would be bedrooms, a doorway with a knit quilt hanging on the wall next to it, and a large wooden door that seems to lead outside. Glancing over the entryway, you see four pairs of shoes resting on a mat.

>Enter the door next to the quilt
>Head upstairs

How do you rationalize the extremely alien ethics and morality of the Outer Planes?

Take Arborea, for example, the Outer Plane that embodies CG. Both 2e Planes of Chaos and the 5e Dungeon Master's Guide have this to say about it:
>Arborea is a place of violent moods and deep affections, of whim backed by steel, and of passions that blaze brightly until they burn out. Its good-natured inhabitants are dedicated to fighting evil, but their reckless emotions sometimes break free with devastating consequences. Rage is as common and as honored as joy in Arborea.
In Arborea, if someone insults you, you can fly into a rage with "whim backed by steel" and then murder the other person with "devastating consequences," and you will be honored for it. This is the epitome of the CG alignment, apparently.

What of Bytopia? Diligence and fairness are made out to be the pinnacle of LG/NG... but so are capitalism and industry. Always LG/NG.

The Beastlands? Respect for nature in all its forms (animals, plants, storms) is the essence of NG/CG. Neither the animals nor the animal lords who live here are good-aligned. Never mind that hardly all druids are NG/CG.

Ysgard? Valorous warfare for no point other than the joy of battle is always CG/CN. Chaotic, sure, but slightly good? I doubt it.

Pandemonium? Mental illness is the height of CN/CE... so I suppose that means everyone gets dragged towards CN/CE the more serious their mental conditions are.

Carceri? Imprisonment is an inherently NE/CE act, apparently. Maybe "cruel imprisonment" would be appropriately evil-aligned, but why is imprisonment on the chaotic side? Even the lawful-only Mercykillers use this as a prison!

Well, after processing the fact that he isn't on Lunar base Gamma anymore, he'd vaporize the mutant humanoid for violating the fifth law, and the seventh law.

So, the kickstarter for The Dark Eye launched just now:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1216685848/the-dark-eye-rpgenglish-edition

It's the biggest pen & paper system in german speaking countries and has been in publication for well over 30 years.

The system was quite bloated in the past, but with the 5th Edition they boiled it down to basics in a better way while keeping it interesting. What I like about the system is the fact that it feels more skill based and you can actually create the sort of character you like - even a confectioner is possible from the rules.

I think it's biggest advantages is it's really well-developed setting. You have one region that is sort of like the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation, you have a setting that is Renaissance Italy / France, you have Vikings, an Arabian setting, colonial slave holders and much more.

As the setting had a living history of more than thirty years, it also all feels really cohesive.

I've been playing in the setting for more than 20 years myself, so feel free to ask me anything.

I'll dump some artwork in the meantime.

Character generation is really in-depth as you choose a race / culture / professions / advantages & disadvantages / skills - maybe even spells and miracles you know.

Managed that used to be a nightmare - even with a computer program it took at least an hour.

They also improved this with the new edition as there are certain "packages" you can take

Comedic genius. Bravo.

Hello all, I am interested I having a private chat D&D style RPG campaign. it will be a basic middle earthy story (eg find some treasure, slay a dragon, rescue princess, etc...)

TRADITIONAL RULES DO NOT APPLY.
I have never played D&D before so you don't need to know anything about the game, the only thing you need to know is basic math, how to read, your ABC's and your 123's

For those trolls who got my last thread taken down, please leave innocent people trying to have some wholesome RPG fun alone and post your negative comments elsewhere.

For more info please see below.

1: I will act as DM

2: Players will be assigned random classes, and races picked from a hat on my end (names are up to the player) to get everything straight and keep things authentic in chat [ I will email you the name race class and stats of your character, so you can fill out your chat username accordingly ]

3: players must select 1 strength 1 weakness and 1 weapon. (eg keen sight, hard of hearing, wand)

4: when rolling (to keep things fare) I will be using random a dice rolling program on behalf of the player who's turn it is.

5: the campaign will take place in a magical land (private chat room) where only the chosen few are allowed to enter. (to get invite to this chatroom, I need to send an invite to your email [Its best to use an alternate account to ward off spammers and trolls] I will alert you in the chat if you are chosen so don't worry about fake invites in your email)

6: the deadline is going to be Sunday May 8th 2016. the game will be at a (TBD) time and date only the lucky players who are chosen will know about.

(PS If all goes well I would definitely be willing to host another game again with different player.)

Alright /tg/, you're tasked with surviving 48 hours in the 40k universe as an imperial guardsmen.
The day of the week that your next birthday falls on will tell you who you're fighting.

Sunday: World Eaters
Monday: Tau
Tuesday: Orks
Wednesday: Tyranids
Thursday: Sisters of Battle
Friday: Necrons
Saturday: Eldar
Remember, you have to survive 48 hours. So if your birthday falls on a Wednesday, you'll the nids first and then the sisters of battle on Thursday.
How did you fare and why

So for some strange reason GW actually thought about it and decided to bring back the Squats as a playable faction, albeit under a different name.

You are responsible for it and it is up to you how they are named and how they make their grand debut before their codex is released.

I'll start with my version.

The Squats are renamed as The Void Clans, and their debut begins when they appear suddenly over Baal where they aid the Blood Angels and their successors in the defense of the planet when finally a tendril of Hive Fleet Leviathan, as well as the Khornate Host of Ka'Bandha, finally hit it. The space dwarves originally were after the aliens (due to obvious reasons), but they also have a raging grudge towards Chaos.

Seeing the Space Marines besieged, the abhumans launch an assault on both Tyranid and Chaos forces and bolster the manpower of the Astartes. The battle drags on, but neither side is getting the advantage.

What's your take on it?

Also Squat thread. And no, they came back in 6th Edition as a background abhuman race. And not even on the extinct list.

I have a problem with how my DM (D&D 5e) treats PCs that either have their players absent or are a retired character.
First, the latter:
When I retired my Monk, he said "Right, this character is now going to become my NPC", I was switching characters in the middle of a mission (which he forced) and assumed he just meant that he would controll her actions for the rest of the mission since I couldn't play both (which I personally felt was a stupid rule).
However, as I missed the sessions after that, I later found out that, rather than having the character leave the party in the way I had described I was going to hqve her to (Explain some information she has, then turn over the 50 or so healing potions she was keeping for the party), the DM simply had her qalk aqay while no-one was looking. They even tried to contact her, which ended up being pointless.
Ontop of that, if a player isn't on, he plays them and has them often make decisions and say things that are completely against what the character would normally do and/or simply has bad shit happen to them (he likes PCs being captured).
The Roleplayibg community I come from has one sinple rule. "If the player isn't online, don't fuck with their characters or the things they made." My DM seems to ignore this basic rule.
My questions are, is this normal DM behaviour? He watches a lot of Podcasts, is some Roleplaying Source telling people to do this?

I should also note that I have discussed my characters actions and noted my displeasure on it, but he is refusing to let me retcon it or otherwise mitigate the sheer stupidity.

There's your problem.
It's no 3.PF but it still fucks with people's heads.

But seriously, your DM is a retard on a power trip.
There are various conflicting sources of advice, but adversarial GMing should be a very rare piece of advice because it's utter shit.
>>
>>47095680
>My questions are, is this normal DM behaviour?

It's not normal in the sense that the majority of DMs do it, but it's more common than it should be, yeah. It's this passive-aggressive way DMs deal with player absence/players compulsively switching characters, which can be big problems if left unchecked. Thing is it's the bad way to deal with it, which a DM should really do, person to person, addressing the player, outside of game.

As for mandating your character switch and then taking over as a DMPC, that just sounds shitty. Your DM a twat.
