Assuming a generic fantasy setting with a wide variety of races and weirdos walking around, why would you ever play a human?

I mean, where's the fun in playing something you already are in real life?

Because as you said, the other races are weirdos. And it's hard to play something that isn't truly human because in order to do that convincingly you have to think in an inhuman mindset.

And for your specific example, humans seem to be the big strong race in the setting, so there's that.

Yes yes, its a creation thread, but here me out. I have seen many threads for space marine chapters, Chaos Space Marine warbands, Imperial Guard Regiments, Dark Eldar Kabals, and even a sector.

What I have not seen is a renegade chapter, or Space marine grouping. No, not chaos traitors who 'despise' the chaos gods, real renegade chapters. Your Soul Drinkers(pic related) and Relictors.

I think this is partially because there are no tables(that I know of) for this particular type of Space Marine Force. So, I've taken it upon myself to sort of creat one. A fair amount is simply a combinaton of the Space marine chapter tables and Chaos Space marine Warband Tables from 1d4chan.

- They somehow came to discover the power of Chaos tainted weapons, and began using such artifacts. It was not long before they were driven out
- The chapter(s) were plauged by mutations, and became fed up with the treatment of their Chapter(s) by other forces of the Imperium, and chose to strike off on their own
- After discovering the taint of chaos within an Imperial institution they attempted to purge it, but failed and were instead declared traitors themselves, forced to flee from their former allies
- The seeds of their leaving the Imperium were implanted long ago, be it by their founders or another institution, this was always going to happen...
- Cult of Personality:A single Champion within the Chapter(s) whose philosophy and ideals have lead the marines down their own path

Leadership organization(New table)

- Imperial compliant(what was it before they split? ITs still that)
- A new Champion has risen and taken control of the Chapter(s) himself(If cult of peronailty was rolled, this is automatically the organization)
- A new Doctrine: The Chapter(s) have made their own unique Leadership oranization
- Piratical: They are lead by no one but their own champions, this renegade grouop is far more fractured and disorganized than others
- A Split in ideals:This group has several factions within itself that work together, but are lead by their own champions

- Codex Compliant: Even after their rebellion, they follow the codex astartes
- True Marines: A strong focus on ship to ship and boarding combat in Space
- Overwhelming Force: The group prefers to use much heavy ordnance, be it tanks and other vehicles or heavy weapons
- Rip and Tear!: vicious before their rebellion and vicious now, the group engages often in glorious melee combat
- Silent as the Night: They use stealth and guile to their advantage, striking from the shadows
- The sound of engines: They carry a focus on lightning attacks and raids, using many bikes and other quick vehicles
- Death from the skies: Master Pilots and drop pod assaulters, the group use these tactics to bring death to the foe with Thunderhawk, Stormbird and drop pod

Home Sector(replaces homeworld, all renegade Groups are technically 'Fleet Based')d10

1-3 - Full nomads: They drift aimlessly in the voide, going from sector to sector avoiding destruction, and aquiring what they need to survive
4-6 - Abandoned sector: Formally Imperial Space, abandoned by the Imperium to its fate, they now have a new guardian, in the form of the Angels of Death
6-7 - Xenos Held: A system held by xenos(roll on enemies table and/or minor xenos table 1d3 times) perhaps they now help their former enemies and trade with them, or perhaps nothing has changed, and they are still seen as enemies.
8 - Wild system: A system broken up into multiple different territories(roll 1d3 time on this table, re-rolling this result and true nomads)
9-10 - Imperial held: This group must remain cautious, for they are not welcome here, but have no choice but to remain.

Yes; it means that it can be made to perform any arbitrary computation that it is possible to compute with any discrete set of data-manipulation rules.

i.e., you could build a computer out of it and make that computer solve any problem, given enough time and computational resources.

I have a bit of a problem, /tg/. One of my players has been digging around for extensive research on the campaign's BBEG. All of the information is completely available in the world, the only catch is that one would have to go very far out of the way in order to find it. This has been going on for three sessions now and I've handed over some hand-written notes for her to study. None of the notes have any significant information like weaknesses, just some personal history and town records. I finally pulled her aside after a session and asked her what's up.

She wants to try to stop the mad alchemist's plans by talking to him. The information was so that she could get a feel for who he is and how to approach the situation. The rest of the party wants to storm in and beat him to death like a loot pinata, but this alternative intrigues me. She wanted my thoughts on it and I told her I'd get back to her before the session next week. She also promised not to be touchy-feely "love conquers all" about it since that's really not her character's bag.

What would you do, /tg/? Have you ever had a player try to talk a BBEG out of being a BBEG?

When your players want to try something unique and different with how they solve problems, let them do it and be excited about it. It's why they are playing an ttrpg and not a video game. Let the try, but don't force it. Play out the game, and let them have their moment to talk.

So, with that being established, the question arises "What do we replace them with?" Here's what I think we should do: We should take the Postcognition spell from 1e and turn it into an Attainment, using the 2e Temporal Sympathy table instead of the 1e one.

okay so people keep saying that you get potency equal to your arcanum when you cast a spell with potency as its primary spell factor but I'm not finding that anywhere.
I just find that it's equal to your arcanum -1. Am I crazy or is everyone else crazy?

Damage avoidance is a great idea but stamina eating into health is very iffy. Maybe it will work better in play, since we've only seen one fight with no items or equipment.
I love the goddamn Pursuer and was so disappointed he got shafted in the original game.

Op here. The designers seems to be depending on the community to create custom campaigns for specific kinds of sessions. Seems like a good way to get some fanfiction inspired encounters in, like Artorias+Ornstein or something

How is WotC failing so spectacularly to capitalize on the rise of e-sports entertainment? MTG as a spectator experience is so dull that even the commentators get bored.

Make an online client that works. You have duels of the planeswalkers. Literally just copy paste that and add all the cards from MTGO.

Make MTGO not cost the same amount as paper cards. At least put a couple of event tickets in paper booster packs or something.

Magic: the gathering is a mind game as well as a card game. It takes hard strategy and well-placed moves to win the game. If it was 3-D animated and fight scenes happened based on dice rolls relative to power then it would be entertaining. But it looks like people shaking cardboard at each other. Also people are usually playing magic more than watching magic since, you know, it's one of those games that can only be enjoyed by playing.

New idea. New rarity level at "unique".

/tg/ I fucked up...

My players have kicked every encounter I've thrown at them in the teeth, and despite my efforts to 'beef up' any monsters, I have hit a wall when it comes to making more monsters.

I don't know what to do to instill a little threat in them without killing them all off and ending the campaign. And I think the players know this, as they are getting ballsier and ballsier each session.

What can I do, /tg/?

Get creative and make a situation where failure isn't just dying.

Say, the stone obelisk with runes on it is sinking into lava. During the fight, someone better be taking turns to write down the runes before it submerges. Just, encounters where even if everyone is alive and all the monsters are dead, it's still possible to have "lost."

I don't want to make them too difficult, and risk killing them off, but making them 'balanced' according to the averages in the system makes them easily beatable.

A couple days ago I asked /tg/ for help in creating a classless system for D&D 5e. While I worked on it ended up being more complicated than I wanted it to be. You laughed at me and told me to just play a different game. "D&D leveling is find, leave it be."

Did I listen? No.

While not entirely classless, this character progression system is designed to be less restrictive and offer more choices throughout the campaign. (It may also result in slightly broken and OP player characters, DMs be warned)

Even though you laughed, called me a faggot as is tradition and told me to just play another game, I'll ask you fa/tg/guys for help again. Please read over it and let me know if something needs explaining, or if a mechanic seems broken.
