Suffering.
I always thought that humanity would be a force for good in the universe.
Instead we turned out to be evil and sadistic conquerors.
Nature does not recognize good and evil. Humans have just upped the scale. Lion could kill lots of gazelles, but would not, because he's going to kill one and eat it. He's not smart enough to herd gazelles and make them fat and destroy their natural habitat to make a lion's den. But he totally would.
>>47707789
Think about it like this. Everything in humanity was developed by humanity, whether an oginal idea or copying something that was observed in nature.
So all of the depraved, irredeemable, insufferable actions and ideas are within us all. That is the nature of a human, to survive, off others, in spite of others, to serve only myself.
>>47707789
Do you call parasites "evil and sadistic"? Do you call wolves hunting deer "evil and sadistic"? What about eagles fishing? How about deers eating plants? Its just their nature, our nature. It's the niche we fill in the natural order and the natural order isn't evil or sadistic or good or right, it just "is".

The history of matchlocks
Song of Swords is a realistic fantasy tabletop RPG that draws inspiration from historical fechtbuchs, weapons and armor. Its combat system is fast and it can be used for both fantasy and historical/mundane settings.
Call of the Void is a pulpy sci-fi tabletop RPG about fighting space-nazis and hunting giant whales with harpoons made out of the moon. Its combat system is more modern, based in the early 20th century, but can probably handle combat up to the present day.

I come with a question.
Right now, I'm running a 17th century Song of Swords game set in the Deluge. The players are hunting an asshole mercenary who's running amok through Poland and Ukraine. Pure historical, and great fun. We're going to continue at it for weeks to come.
However, I'm also thinking of some ideas for a later game, with a bit more fantasy. The current idea involves an unholy mixture of the Thirty Years War, the American Civil War, and the Meiji Restoration. I'm still working out the details, but I think Ballad would be more appropriate to use than regular Song of Swords.
Ballad works well in representing the differences between modern firearms. But how is it with 19th century arms? Would the difference between, say, an Enfiel, a Springfield, and a Mississippi rifle be able to be represented meaningfully? If not, that's how it is, but I'd like to provide some more options in longarms than smoothbore musket, rifle musket, and various types of repeater.

Allright /tg/ since we seem to have been having fun with these so far,and im fucking bored and dont want to do my jobpick whether we generate a Space Marine Cadre or a Tau Chapter.

Vikings and pirates are awesome adventurers but bandits are crossing the line? What kind of fuking logic is that? They all do the same shit - attack unarmed people for personal gain yet somehow bandits are the scum. Is it because they don't have boats?
>>47691552
It is because straigh-up bandits rarely get some romanticised bullshit, unlike pirates or vikings.
All are the same scum
>>47691561
Highwaymen are pretty romanticized. Robin Hood as well I guess
As well as the Betyars of Hungary.
Do you have any specific RPGs in your country that arent known to broader public? Are they original and different than you can find in classic american system? Share your knowledge i'm very interested in little known rpgs.
I'l start with Poland
When tg hobby started in poland it was very difficult to get any rpg books from west so in no-time they made original "Kryształy Czasy" which translates to "Crystals of Time". And it was horrible. Running joke in our comunity is that you need a calculator per player to run it.
By modern times most popular local system is "Neuroshima" which is really basic post-apo system that everybody plays on massive house-rules 'couse basic rules are shit.
Also really popular is "Wolsung" steampunk, action oriented game for ladies and gentlemans. Really cool game, that even got translated and published in english. Basic rule is that if something is cool then it works. Works for me.
But personally, my favorite is "Klanarchia" (Clanarchy?). Magic post-apocaliptic setting in which remnants of humanity divaded in little clans fight against big demon controlled empire. Pretty dark, but not to edgy, with simple fight mechanics and generally good rulings.
If you want to know anything more ask questions.
I really want to know about game exlusive to your (not english speaking) country.
>Sweden
We have quite a few rpgs here, some are better known like Kult and (what came to be) Mutant Chronicles, but there's a lot of smaller local IPs of various genres as well.
Our long-time runner, Drakar och Demoner [dragons and demons, D&D lol but much better rule system] has existed since 1982, has been many swe/tg/'s first roleplaying experience and has had a decent reformat in the last ten or so years. Trying to focus on a more traditional folk-tale setting (pic related), rather than the cardboard standard fantasy fare that it's been running since its inception (no, motherfucking Chronopia doesn't count).

Everyone and his mother played Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay back during the 90ties (late 90ties belonged to WoD, Earthdown and CoC). "Kryształy Czasu" never got popular around here.

Klanarchia seems cool, reminds me of Tribe8?
>What is Unknown Armies?
Unknown Armies is a system for playing in a modern fantasy setting filled with postmodern magic, new age weirdness, and conspiracies.
It's been a while since we've last had one of these. How many of you are playing the new edition now that it's out?
>>47690481
>now that it's out
Post it or it didn't happen.
All that was released was the gamma (sic!) text for the new rule books afaik.
>>47690481
Yeah, I don't think it's out.
>Repo Man was so great. Repo Men...not so much.
>>47691914
>>47690908
The gamma test material is over 400 pages long, yeah it doesn't have pictures and needs some rewrites, but to me that qualifies as out. I've played 3 games using only the new rulebooks already at this point.
I need some cool ideas for cool traps and annoyances for my players. Because I think I've overplayed the spike pit, giant boulder and tripwire tropes enough.

If the onahole isn't also a mimic, you're doing something wrong.

Does it bother anyone else that so many sci-fi franchises/settings use 20th century naval terms like "destroyer," "cruiser," and "battleship" to mean "small," "medium," and "large," or am I just a lone autist?
I don't think it's that hard to come up with descriptive names for ship types based on what they actually do - as destroyer, cruiser, and battleship were originally.
>>47700652
>Destroyer, cruiser, and battleship
>to mean small, medium, or large
>Clearly doesn't know a damn thing about ships
>>47700652
Why create completely new words when it is perfectly viable to just reuse naval terminology?
If we make a gun that shoots different sized bullets, do we have to call it a smallshootbang? If someone creates a drink to get you sober, do we call it a sober instead of a beverage?
I think you're just a lone autist, anon.
>>47700652
What's always bothered me is speaking about spaceships and space travel with the same terms for sea vessels. Why is space an ocean? Is it just for ease of use?

how you deal with players saying i want to cut his throat when they are behind an enemy
>>47698890
I let them roll for attack. If they crit and I feel nice they might even get the 1hk
>>47698890
if its like an important npc
>you attempt to cut his throat, roll to hit (likely at advantage)
>*rolls 2d20*, 2 and 16, so 21.
>you hit, roll damage
>*rolls 3d6*, i got a 12 + my 4 dex, 16.
>either that kills him OR
>you attempt to cut his throat, and almost get him, but he manages to stop your blade from harming him and escape your grasp. roll initiative.
OR if its some unimportant mook you can just let him have it if you want.
basically HP isn't meat points, so if he doesn't finish off their HP, it means they some how avoided getting their throat slit. but he might of taken a lot of fight out of them

The only right answer.
How can I adapt D&D 5e for a no-magic environment? I want to make magic something mysterious and rare, like Tolkien does.
>>47702999
You'll have to more or less rewrite the system, since once you've chopped out the parts of the magic system incompatible with how Tolkien does things (every PC caster, any magic item that's a stat boost or too easy to use, the monsters now rendered unbeatable by this new paradigm, etc.), you're not going to have a whole lot left.
>>47702999
Don't use 5e. I like it, too, but it is just plain not suited to what you want to do.
Keep all the rules for physical, and speech checks, as well as your resistance checks, but throw out everything concerning learning/casting magic, and build that from the ground up
I'm starting a D&D club at my school and I wanted to compose a power-point for teaching new people the basics and whatnot. For this thread I wanted examples of at least the big four classes at levels 1-5, 6-10,11-15, and 16-20. Feel free to argue who is what class and what level range, so long as you provide examples that that the majority of mainstream normies will get. Here is what I have so far, and I'm still working on the list so none of these are final. Also feel free to provide examples of the other core classes (Bards, Paladins, etc.) and what level ranges they would be if you'd like. Going to just go ahead and say the majority of anime examples are of the mythic/epic realm of gameplay and not applicable to new players as a source of learning expectations of power levels for a class.

This sounds like the absolute worst way possible to introduce new people into D&D, let alone tabletop.
I've introduced many newcomers to D&D who ended up loving it. Most of them were women(lol misogyny). Your idea sounds awful.
>>47699367
I think you are greatly underestimating D&D powerlevels
Legolas is closer to the lower end of 6-10
