>tfw I tried to start one earlier and it fizzled out.
And now I'm phone posting cause I'm out all night so I can check out Saturn's opposition. So kinda related I guess.
So do you guys prefer hard sci fi or soft sci fi for your horror?
I prefer hard, because things are a lot less scary if you can just blast the boogeymen with a laser and safety is just a quick FTL jump away
>>47601424
Normally I like my sci-fi a little on the softer side, but for suspense, hard all the way. Knowing that you can't techno-babble your way out of any situation makes it so much more effective.
Welcome to the /tg/ OC thread.
Tell us about your original characters, new and old. Let's hear some stories of valor and glory and build some legends in here.
>THIS THREAD IS PRIMARILY FOR CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND SHOWING OFF YOUR FAVORITES FROM YOUR GAMES
It's like the Storythread, but centered on characters that we all know and help make. Your Original Character can be any character you've played, are playing, or want to play!
>WHEN POSTING YOUR OC
Give us a little blurb about your character, this is a brag thread after all. Some basic questions to get you started:
• Name:
• Role(s):
• Goals:
• Traits:
• Flaws:
• Allies:
• Enemies:
• Other Relations:
• Physical Description:
Write and share stories about each others' characters (use a pastebin for works that would take up multiple posts). Draw and share pictures of each others' characters (please link offsite in the event of NSFW work).
Ask questions about other anons characters and get to know their stories, and tell us all about your own.
Need help developing a new character concept? Ask away!
This thread is intended to be all in good spirit, so please remember to be excellent to each other, and try to contribute in some way. If you can't draw, write something for someone and vice/versa.
>CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
How does your character celebrate their birthday?
>IF YOU JUST NEED CHARACTER ART, GO TO THE DRAW THREAD
There are more artists consistently there that are actively looking for requests to fill, that's not the case here.
>DON'T MAKE A NEW THREAD UNTIL PAGE 10
Use art from these threads as OP image when possible.
i got #1 on thread one, so it looks like i should be #1 on thread 10 too...

>Party, a spectrum of NPCs, and a dragon
>Not many enemies, closest he's got are a necromancer and a vampire that both don't like him but can't be bothered to kill him
>Parents and grandfather adventure together, has a diplomat-for-hire uncle SOMEWHERE in the world
>Light skinned elf with long, straight brown hair, forest green eyes, and an androgynous build. Worn equipment includes long shirt, a sword, a bow, a bag, tough pants, and simple boots
>How does your character celebrate their birthday?
Being a long-lived elf, he doesn't celebrate birthdays so much as decaversaries, where he either hunts a bit extra to be a bit of a glutton, or stays in a town so he doesn't get too out of touch with how the civil people work.
However, he stakes some pride on usually being the oldest in the room, and he so tracks the days he's been alive to a week-deviation in case he needs to play the seniority card.140 coming up in five in-game months, got GM in on a gag we can pull if we ever reach that far.

Is there other variation ?
I can't fit Deadeye no matter what... and extra munition is more important I think.
I got adaptability because how it is freaking free and i'm really short on Gamma veteran are the only solution to fire before A-wing swarm, CrackTIESwarm, and the Countess.
Maybe 3 Veteran + Deadeye and dropping a guy to a lesser PS pilot ?
What would be better ?

Bolt Action: Empire in Flames
4th June in military history:
1615 – Siege of Osaka: Forces under Tokugawa Ieyasu take Osaka Castle in Japan.
1745 – Battle of Hohenfriedberg: Frederick the Great's Prussian army decisively defeated an Austrian army under Prince Charles Alexander of Lorraine during the War of the Austrian Succession.
1794 – British troops capture Port-au-Prince in Haiti.
1855 – Major Henry C. Wayne departs New York aboard the USS Supply to procure camels to establish the U.S. Camel Corps.
1859 – Italian Independence wars: In the Battle of Magenta, the French army, under Louis-Napoleon, defeat the Austrian army.
1862 – American Civil War: Confederate troops evacuate Fort Pillow on the Mississippi River, leaving the way clear for Union troops to take Memphis, Tennessee.
1916 – World War I: Russia opens the Brusilov Offensive with an artillery barrage of Austro-Hungarian lines in Galicia.
1940 – World War II: The Dunkirk evacuation ends: British forces complete evacuation of 338,000 troops from Dunkirk in France. To rally the morale of the country, Winston Churchill delivers, only to the House of Commons, his famous "We shall fight on the beaches" speech.
1942 – World War II: The Battle of Midway begins. The Japanese Admiral Chūichi Nagumo orders a strike on Midway Island by much of the Imperial Japanese Navy.
1943 – A military coup in Argentina ousts Ramón Castillo.
1944 – World War II: A hunter-killer group of the United States Navy captures the German submarine U-505: The first time a U.S. Navy vessel had captured an enemy vessel at sea since the 19th century.
1944 – World War II: Rome falls to the Allies, the first Axis capital to fall.
1989 – The Tiananmen Square protests are violently ended in Beijing by the People's Liberation Army, with at least 241 dead.
June 4th marks the centennary of the Brusilov Offensive, also known as the "June Advance". This was the Russian Empire's greatest feat of arms during World War I, and among the most lethal offensives in world history. It was the worst crisis of World War I for Austria-Hungary and one of the Triple Entente's greatest victories, but it came at a tremendous loss of life.
The offensive involved a major Russian attack against the armies of the Central Powers on the Eastern Front, launched on June 4, 1916, and lasting until late September. It took place in an area of present-day western Ukraine, in the general vicinity of the towns of Lviv, Kovel, and Lutsk. The offensive was named after the commander in charge of the Southwestern Front of the Imperial Russian Army, General Aleksei Brusilov.
Under the terms of the Chantilly Agreement of December 1915, Russia, France, Britain and Italy committed to simultaneous attacks against the Central Powers in the summer of 1916. Russia felt obliged to lend troops to fight in France and Salonika (against her own wishes), and to attack on the Eastern Front, in the hope of obtaining munitions from Britain and France.
The Russians also initiated the disastrous Lake Naroch Offensive in the Vilno area, during which the Germans suffered only one-fifth as many casualties as the Russians. This offensive took place at French request, in the hope that the Germans would transfer more units to the East after their attack on Verdun.
Brusilov presented his plan to the Stavka, proposing a massive offensive by his Southwestern Front against the Austro-Hungarian forces in Galicia. It aimed to take some of the pressure off French and British armies in France and the Italian Army along the Isonzo Front and, if possible, to knock Austria-Hungary out of the war. As the Austrian army was heavily engaged in Italy, the Russian army enjoyed a significant numerical advantage on the Galician front.

Alright /bgg/, I need some help.
If you had to recommend a single game of any category or genre, what would it be?
Only qualifier is that it has to play well with 3 people.
>>47550410
>> What's your favorite category of games (i.e. Ameritrash, Euro-game, War Game, Deck Builder, etc.)
War Games - particularly with campaigns. Next most popular would be Space 4x games.
>> What category of games do you have the most difficulty getting to the table with your main group? (Bonus feels if it's the same answer as the question above...)
War Games, mainly because a lot of them are only 2 player, and longer play time / campaign games require a commitment that a lot of folks just aren't willing to make. That said my group is willing to indulge my 'Space 4x' habit from time to time.
>> What game do you own (if any) that you have to be selective when it comes time to play for fear of potentially offending players?
I own CaH, and don't really have to worry about offending most of my regular gaming group. The one that seems to get people's panties in a bunch is 'Kittens in a Blender' (where you try to blend other player's cats for points while saving your own). Sure, it sounds warped, but quite frankly if one can't separate reality from fantasy then one has larger issues than board gaming to worry about.
>> What is your preferred board game transporter?
I've got a 'High Sierra' bag that's nearly duff-bag sized with a plastic base inside and wheels at one end along with heavy duty carrying straps. It fits a boat-load of games and can accommodate even the large boxes like Eclipse or TI3. It doesn't have padding, but adding some thick towels helps keep the wear-n-tear down on the box corners.
>>47550487
>If you had to recommend a single game of any category or genre, what would it be?
>Only qualifier is that it has to play well with 3 people.
That is WAY to vague to answer well. There are literally dozens (if not hundreds) of games in a given category or genre that will get recommendations from someone.

A quick question for the people who have experience with US Mechanized forces in TY.
What are your opinions about having the Dragons in the infantry platoons vs mounting them on the M113s?
Part of me says leaving them with the infantry is the smarter choice, but part of me says a mobile anti-tank missile might also be useful.
>>47543992
Dismounted, in my view.
You can't move and shoot with them anyway, so you always have the option of remounting if you need to get somewhere in a hurry. The M113 is also massively more fragile, while the infantry will be an annoyingly hard target for everything out of machinegun range.
Not sure what it is about D-Day games, but something brings out the worst in me. Two separate incidents:
Person: Wave after wave of my own troops at your positions. Too bad for me Germans don't have pre-set kill limits.
Me: Sure they do. Approximately six million.
Me: We're going to build an Atlantik Wall, and make the Jews pay for it! And every time they say "please don't put me in the oven", we add another HMG!

I'm sorry for your mother.
Been thinking about those new feats in Unearthed Arcana. With regards to the weapon feats, the universal consensus seems to be "cool, but the +1 to attack rolls is a terrible idea."
Bearing that in mind, two questions.
1) Are the feats notably impacted in power if the +1 to attack is removed (i.e., are they no longer worth taking)?
2) If something needs to be subbed in to make the feats worthwhile, how does pic stack up?
Reposting because dead thread.
I've cleaned up my old Dark Souls homebrew that people seemed to like, and I want to start to add more to it. What mechanics, spells, and monsters do people want to see rules for?
I had an idea for adding a Weapon Skills variant rule, inspired by Dark Souls 3's system.
Why in all of 40k has no faction ever thought to find and kill the tyranid hivemind? If they squish the big bad brainbug, the nids would be a complete nonissue.
Yet every time, they waste precious resources grinding their faces against the lesser creatures that the hivemind controls.
>>47669968

There's the important part right there.
Do you know what the word hivemind means
the hivemind isn't the overmind from starcraft
it's all of the tyranids combined
>the seemingly-shifty grand vizier isn't a traitor who covets power, he just highly distrusts the PCs and attempts to sabotage them due to this gut instinct

I actually saw something similar happen in a campaign I was in. My character wound up accidentally saving the kingdom by prodding the guy with rumors to watch his reactions.
Yes, I was so bad at playing politics that it went out the other side and became almost greatness.

>The baron isn't evil, his manners are just a bit brusque because he used to be in the army and is sick and tired of silver tongued nobles trying to trick him out of his well-earned position.

To be fair, the vizier's job as an upper level administrator and advisor means he should 100% be suspicious of murderhobos. Or anyone from outside the establishment, really.
Are mortals just canon fodder in exalted? Everything seems to be stronger than mortals and I wonder how mortals survive alone.
>>47667277
Not all mortals.
Heroic mortals can kick some serious ass and if you get attached to some, they can become awesome. Especially if you train them to become Tiger Warriors, or use whatever that charm was in the War Charms section that lets you train forces to become incredibly elite.
>>47667277

Regardless they can match exalts simply by doing things the exalt cant. Like a dawn with 20 combat charms could beat any mortal in a fight sure but a mortal with performance 5 is still going to sing better than him.

Uhhhh soooo
Savage Rifts eh? Anyone back that shit or did you avoid it because it physically touched Palladium?
I have been looking at this system for a while after hearing the promise of fast encounters that isn't just "Roll for combat" or something where you can just teleport away instead if actually having to camp.
How is the out of combat portion of this game? Are there a lot of fun tools to play around with like spells which can give people nightmares or let you build golems, or stuff like item crafting? I read the social encounter and vehicle combat page and those look pretty good without being more complicated than they need to be.
Also, any recommendations for a generic fantasy setting for it? I downloaded Shaintar and that looks nice, though I am trying to find a PDF of Thunderscape.

What is Shantair about? What is it's hook? I've only ever seen it called "Fantasy."
Also, you can check out the Fantasy Companion for some generic fantasy info.
>not - japanese race
>not - vikings race
>paladins
three edgiest, most underage tier ideas yet every fucking setting spams them
I cast 404
The important thing is you condemn others for having fun and focus more on the percieved incorrect way people are having fun.

Fun is a codeword for casuals I won't allow my game to be spoiled by fuckwits who even entertain the thoughts about such retarded concepts as ''fun'' or ''happiness'' I always carry a knife with me exactly to cull such assholes on the spot before they fuck everything up.

We should probably be saying that if no restrictions are specified, we will assume 3PP is allowed.
To Gareth, who was talking about the possibility of a PoW npc book, FUCKING GODDAMN YES!
