This picture perfectly describes why 3.5 is an amazing RPG system.
All games have been broken by your definition then.
It's just that they're not so popular as to have as many people care.

Giant centipede. Wear it wrapped around your torso like armor and get it to spit venom on things out of your sleeves or something.

How do you relate D&Ds currency to players? I always explain everything in chickens, especially when people are talking about relative value of a thing. Then the DM is have the barkeep charge you 5gp for something I will almost always pipe in with "But thats 250 chickens worth!"

Well, after further inspection the Mystic DOES share an awful lot of the Binder's play style. It just doesn't fit the flavor at all and is Int based instead of Cha. But that does seem like a better starting point than the warlock mechanically.
>>47819356
>5e doesn't really work well with the concept of abilities having costs for failure.
But that's where all the flavor is... Not to mention that the only cost is specifically an RP thing since it just gives you some disfigurement and a personality quirk.
I do see now though that it doesn't fit warlock mechanically even if it does fluffwise.
>>47825390
Try these on for size.
>2: Your touch can temporarily transmute wood of one common variety into another, repair warps and bends, scarring, fire damage, rot, or inflict any of the same. This effect lasts one hour or until you lose concentration (as if you were concentrating on a spell).
>6: As an action, you can cause plants to spring from a surface and become overgrown. The area effected must be contiguous, but can otherwise take any shape you desire. The plants are treated as difficult terrain, and optionally lightly obscured. You alter terrain in 5 square foot increments, and can alter a maximum of 5 square feet per your Wizard level times two per long rest. The plants wither after 10 minutes.
In case that's not clear, a level 6 Wizard can make 12 tiles of plants per long rest, spread out across however many actions he wants; it could be two tiles one time, four tiles the next, another four tiles a few minutes later, and finally two more tiles.
>10: As an action, you can bring about a permanent change in plantlife. Within mere instants, you can age a tree or other large individual plant many years and contort its growth as you desire, or reverse its size and age to a state in the distant past. Acting on general foliage, you can make an area equal to 5 square feet per Wizard level permanently overgrown (difficult terrain and lightly obscuring) or make a similarly hindering patch of plantlife easy to pass. You can also, instead, cause flowering trees and plants within an equal area to produce their associated fruits instantly, or double their yield if they were nearly in season. Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest.

Just take the Mystic, turn all Int into Cha stuff, make up new rules for binding pacts, and replace the disciplines with bound entities. You're not making an archetype, you're making an entirely new class that's based on Mystic the same way Ranger or Barbarian are based on the Fighter.

What's the difference between acting OOC and metagaming?
Have you ever played with someone who metagamed? How did it go?
>>47823465
Acting out of character means you are doing so0mething your character wouldn't do.
Metagaming means you are using out of game knowledge to inform the decisions of your character.
So you acting OOC can be caused by metagaming. It could however also be you just mischaracterizing your character by ignoring the background you've given him or doing another acting based mistake.
>>47823465
I get accused of "Metagaming" quite often, but it's always in cases that I wouldn't consider metagaming. Coming from an OSR background, I often rely more on player knowledge or experimentation. I'll give a couple of examples.
>Party is walking through the woods, expecting an ambush. The DM describes voices mimicking what we say. I tell the party, "Be prepared for an ambush. I think it may be Kenku or Tengu. Something of that nature."
>DM gets mad and yells, "You're metagaming! You have to make a check before you can know that!"
>Playing a Barbarian character. We come across a trap in a dungeon. I start to examine it and ask for specific characteristics about the trap. It seems rather simple, so I should just be able to describe how I would take care of it. It's a simple trip wire trap, meant to snare small animals and the like.
>No, you're not a rogue, and you have to roll to see if you're knowledgeable enough to take it apart.
There's a reason I stick to oldschool stuff.
>>47823748
That second example seems more of a lack of skill than knowledge, though. If an engineer can't take the trap apart simply because he lacks rogue levels, I call BS. But the woodsy Ranger who knows literally nothing of mechanisms more complex than "attach rope to stick, use to shoot arrow forward"? He probably sets off the trap.
What sort of things do you find up in the Northern wastelands? Lovecraftian horrors lurking under the ice? Frozen monsters? Ancient ruins? Alien crash sites?

>Tonight. You.
>>47823066
Massive amounts of largely unexplored and unexplorable territory populated by Giants and arcane experiments gone wrong.
Occasional corpses of the inhabitants of this area in positions of terror, preserved in the ice and snow.
Eventually there's a bodies of a large and probably dangerous creature. The players will probably expect some even badder beastie to be murdering these people and creatures, but what actually happened is a very nasty and fast flash freezing happened a very long time ago due to magical fuckery and all these things died from that since they were completely unprepared for the cold.
80s and 90s cartoon and video game fantasy was the tits, /tg/. He-Man, Thundercats, D&D, even the Conan cartoon. I know there's a system out which emulates this kind of setting in a rules-light way but I forget what it's called. Remind me please.

I only like the Jedi. I don't care about any other aspect of Star Wars. That's why I loved the prequels and the Clone Wars.
The fact that some people hate the Jedi and Sith and can enjoy Star Wars without including those things at all is odd to me.
>>47786571
Personally, I much prefer the WWII in space aspect. The dogfights especially.
>>47786571
I like the space ships, and western feel to Star Wars (smugglers, bounty hunters, etc). I don't mind the Jedi and Sith dynamic, but the Jedi especially feel a bit overemphasized at times. The first prequel is the only one I absolutely despise. The second just bothers me because its 99% green screen CGI and 1% acting. But I liked the whole detective Obi-Wan theme. The third was the only prequel I actually think is really good.
I think the biggest issue I have with Jedi, is they sometimes feel far too... Spess muhreen. Not in armor, or weapons, anything like that. I'm talking in how they get so much focus it detracts from other aspects of the stories. The difference however is that 40k is insufferable and such shit, because it's nothing but marines and a few things to cameo as bullet catchers. Whereas Star Wars is still a lot of fun for me, because Jedi are just another part of it and not stealing the entire goddamned show.
