Just use a post apocalypse RPG like twilight 2000
I use mutant year zero as there is plenty of references, although there is little tactical realism. The tones definitely the same though.
The there's a actual STALKER RPG (based off the book) which uses a dice less system, which I know is a dealbreaker to a lot of people but check it out.
I was in that there's a few homebrews kicking around based off the usual stuff, Savage Stalker (savage worlds), the Zone (Dark heresy), The D 20 modern, ect
Take your pick man.

The group struggling with a corridor of pressure plate traps/puzzle. Thy never did solve the trick to it but they came up with creative ways of getting past the corridor. Quite simple but it was a delight to see them get worked up about it.
Also as it dawns on them what the room full of statues actually might signify.. Simple little things that's so rewarding just watching them squirm. Most of them have not played much RPGs befor so it's fun just watching them take it all in and get lost in experience and having their characters react to things.
Oh and that player who has a character actually collecting cursed items.. Which he some times whispers and talks to.. That gnome has some serious emotional problems (barbarian, or rather a shoe-maker with an impulse control problem).

It's an OTK that can only work if your opponent is playing a Light deck and has Light monsters in their hand who's combined atk is at least 8000.

Yeah basically. Since the first player no longer draws on their first turn, they were able to pull off a First Turn Kill with only the first five cards they drew. And they really only needed 3 of them. They manage to be able to synchro summon a level 3 to bring out Goyo Defender. Goyo Defender has an effect that allows you to special summon it from the extra deck if the only monsters you control are EARTH Warrior Synchros (which Goyo Defender is). So they bring out the other two Goyo Defenders. They then are able to get another tuner monster in order to synch for 10 to bring out Ally of Justice Decisive Armor. They use it's effect by discarding their hand in order to look at the opponents hand, and then send all LIGHT monsters in their hand to the graveyard and deal their combined ATK total to the opponent as damage. The effect just wastes your hand if the opponent has no light monsters and they got extremely lucky that the total ATK of the monsters happened to exceed 8000. Not exactly one in a million but still highly situational.

We had a goblin alchemist that got mocked by a bunch of kids at an orphanage, he burned it down and managed to convince the guards that it was the kids because nat fucking 20's.
