1 > 1+2+3+4+5+6.....
Prove me wrong
1 < 1 + 2
and it just gets worse from there
>>8889806
>1 > 1+2+3+4+5+6.....
1+2+3+4+5+6 doesn't converge to any number.
>>8889825
The whole series = -1/12
1>-1/12
Taking the AP Physics C exams in two days. Does /sci/ have any tips?
>>8889353
Fail them :)
Took them last year, got 5 on both.
Honestly if you don't know the material now you're absolutely fucked (like completely). If you do, and just want some tips, all I really remember is that you had to work really fast on Mechanics MC, but make sure to work quickly and accurately. Also you get the formula sheets, which was really helpful. I got the international version for E/M, it was hard af with multiple questions I had no idea how to do, just hope you get US version.
OKAY:
1. Do a fuckload of practice problems tomorrow if you haven't been doing them already. I only got the fives I did because I no-lifed my way through high school to the point of skipping my senior prom.
2. You can assign arbitrary constants on your TI graphing calculator using the alpha key. Learn how to use that.
3. You can store specific, situational formulas in program names and possibly even the programs themselves.
4. The worst part of the entire exam is that you're pretty much fucking guaranteed to have a question about induction on the E&M exam. Everything else is relatively smooth sailing.
5. Shoot to "pass" and you'll do great; the threshold for a 5 is below a 60% for AP Physics C exams IIRC.
6. For the love of God, master the rotation section because it will help you understand related rates a lot fucking faster.
7. Right hand rule.
8. Don't plug in any variables until you're calculating your answer, and even then let alpha do as much of your job for you as physically fucking possible, including storing PARTS of answers as Alpha constants.
9. You get a formula sheet on your exam, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't do whatever you can to memorize relationships and therefore formulas.
10. Most to all pendulum problems involve the use of the small angle approximation; ask your physics instructor about this if you don't remember what it is / were never told about it.
11. Be able to explain to yourself the difference between ds/dt and delta s / delta t. ds/dt is an immediate ratio of change in s over change in t, deltas are the average over a set interval.
12. I hope you're good at vector math.
Be careful when going through this exam. The only reason this exam didn't fuck me up is because I've been working from the very beginning on being good at the very basics so that I could have as few obstacles as possible learning higher-level shit. Chances are that you're not necessarily like that. I'd say good luck if luck was actually a factor.
This location in the graph shall forever be branded as the BIll Nye Kink.
>>8887936
We need more Bill Nye memes ITT!
...because a 4chan shitposter is soo smart
>>8887961
I'm willing to bet that a good chunk of /sci/ has better scientific credentials than Bill Nye.
Who here /hobbyist math/?
Anybody got any good recs for:
> group theory
> general abstract algebra
> Galois/finite field arithmetic
most importantly,
> amateur number theory
>>8887090
I like to add things, sometimes
>>8887090
Yes. Amateur number theory. More disease than hobby? Look up Dickson's classic "history of the theory of numbers", freely available. It's the Bible for number nutters.
are humans apes? I've been hearing lots of conflicting information
Yes. We are a species of ape.
>>8882993
Taxonomically yes.
Biologically yes.
Socially yes.
Short answer just watch a porn and you can't unsee the two apes.
>>8882993
>I've been hearing lots of conflicting information
From who?
There is no consciousness. Why is this so hard for brainlets to comprehend? Feel free to prove me wrong but there isn't any as everything is predetermined.
What about you proof yourself right?
>>8881282
Explain the relation you think that exists between consciousness and predetermination.
Hey /sci/, I've been doing well on my finals so far but I have an online exam Monday and two exams Tuesday.
The online exam is econ and I'm doing good in the class but on Tuesday I have my physics 2 final. I would need an A to pass the course so unless I pull a miracle out of my ass I'll have to take it again. The other final is in a class that I want an A in, it's easy and I already have a B in it. I've already entered most of the vocab for it into Anki.
What do you guys think I should do? My sore spot is physics. I can't only study for that exam though because I want to do well in all them. I only have two days.
What's your strategy for finals or for studying in general? I'm looking for more advice for now but also not fucking myself over like this would be a good strategy.
Also is it normal for science majors to have low gpas? Or am I a brainlet?
>>8889540
what OP said:
>oink oink
>oink oink ECON oink oink
>econ = science
>oink
>*eats some oats*
>hard
>oink oink
>random inane normie shit
>oink oink
>*goes into the corner where he pisses / shits at, sits down because it's tired*
>gpa instead of percentages or UK marking system
>oink
>lets out a final, incredibly loud oink that echoes throughout /sci/
ALARM! ACHTUNG! PIGGOT DETECTED! OINKING DETECTED!
>>8889550
it's a requirement by the school, my other two classes are science courses and to get a BS you need to have taken at least 1 econ course.
>>8889568
make the most of it piggot use the information, suck it from the dick of the university, wank it strongly and squeeze every last drop of informational sperm you can from that big veiny dick of knowledge
maybe deepthroat it so that it reaches the deepest parts of your brain and really sticks to your normalfag, piggot cortex

Who's ready for some new theorems? Predictions of whether there will actually be anything mathematically worthwhile inside?
*blocks your path*
>>8888128
Anything worthwhile has probably been left out, sadly.
>>8888128
holy shit! can't wait!
keep me posted
I'm currently learning about matrices in university.
I feel like they are so straightforward and easy, like what the fuck... why is this in my math programme. What is the use of matrices.
I came across some sources talking about engineers using them or something. Just what the fuck, give me my calculus.
linear algebra is great BECAUSE it's easy, if you can rephrase a mathematical problem into linear algebra you have tons of tools to help solve it
once you learn about groups (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Group_(mathematics)) you can say a lot about them using representation theory which brings in linear algebraic tools, and a very large part of modern number theory (Langlands program) is done this way
Welcome to the world of brainlets, OP. You have to squander your precious time because they are too fucking stupid to understand high school concepts.
linalg and matrices are a fruitful practice to develop maturity and intuition

Who here is majoring in CS and Pure Math? It is the best of both worlds. You blow away code monkeys in programming and blow away math majors with useful skills.
What classes are you double majors in cs & math taking?
You have no reason to major in computer science, not one.
>>8887314
I do pure math and cs, so what is your point
>>8887311
Can you sum the primes under 2 million, implement bubble sort, and decrypt a XOR cipher?
I graduated from a state university. There were 4000 graduates in the class of 2017. About 300 in the college of Science and Health which were mostly biology students and nursing (it does not cover social sciences, computer sciences, or technology and related fields). Tons of exercise science majors which was a surprise. There were 9 Earth Science students graduating with me of which 6 were Environmental Science and Earth Science Education.
Leaving 3 of us graduating in Geology. Geology is fun, it's in demand, you work a lot outdoors, and you make good money. So why so few geologists? I'm truly baffled.
>>8886879
No one will ever care about your fucking rock collection.
>>8886879
because most of them keep their mouth shut and don't humble brag on their 4 chan blog post thread.
plus the job market sucks right now

You know the rules faggot!
Pics of your rock collection or GTFO!
is he greater than Hilbert and Von Neumann
why isn't he talked about as much

Most of his work consists of developing the stage for mathematics to be done on rather than actually proving mad theorems.
he is the founder of modern algebraic geometry

realistically, when can we hope to achieve this /sci/?

Isn't everything time traveling to the future?
>>8886467
Never. By the time it became technologically feasible, if ever, quantum gravity will likely be solved to the extent needed to design something much better.

nice comment, retard.
