Do most physicists think they are better than mathematicians? Most physicists I talk to are smug assholes.
>>8892205
if a physicist finds an application for your model be grateful.
>>8892205
Physicists are cancerous pop-science twats. 99% of them got into physics because of retards like Michiu Cuckold and Neil DeNigger Tyrone and other pop-sci faggots and they are the biggest producers of pop-sci garbage.
>>8892213
Those aren't physicists they are mathematicians doing physics, faggot.

>Those aren't physicists they are mathematicians doing physics, faggot.
Physicists are applied mathematicians, but that doesn't mean that they aren't physicists...
What is the best order to learn mathematics?
Is the order typically taught in elementary, middle, and high school, then college, the best order? Or is there an optimal order if we were to restart from scratch AND completely ignore practical applications?
That is, if the end goal were absolute knowledge of mathematics, not usefulness, what would be the best order to learn it all?
first step would be logic
It would be better if you used algebra, trig, arithmetic and calculus instead of grade levels.
>>8891913
>What is the best order to learn mathematics?
depends on what you plan on using math for
>end goal were absolute knowledge of mathematics
impossible nowadays
I really like pure science and engineering, but don't want to sit in front of computer for the rest of my career. Am I out of luck? Is Materials Sci an option?
>>8891210
>Is Materials Sci an option?
You WILL sit in front of a computer all day.
>>8891214
Well great... any other branches of engineering any better?
>>8891210
Face it, modern science and engineering have a lot of computer work. There are going be times where you have to sit in front of a computer. The main question is if you can get lots of field work that isn't sitting in a trailer in front of a computer. There are lots of field opportunities in geology related work. Keep in mind that this can be dangerous.
How hard would it be to build a self sustaining generation ship with todays technology?
>>8890780
Middling, hard in many ways but in others not so hard.
>>8890780
>How hard would it be to build a self sustaining generation ship with todays technology?
not hard from a technological standpoint, just ludicrously expensive. like GDP of most western nations expensive.
>>8890780
We would be talking about a ship that is supposed to run perfectly for as much as 500 years and carry within at least 1000 persons with a lot of complex and heavy equipment.
Also fuel for accelerating and decelerating, for all of that mass.
Saying that is going to be hard is a bit of an understatement, we would have to build it in space in the first place and we don't even have the infrastructure for that, so expect it to be a project that is almost like a modern cathedral; it requires centuries to be achieved.
Nobel Prize when?
if the vice article claims the science has been updated why doesn't it provide any references to the literature?

We are apes.
You aren't an hyperborean super race developed by aliens.

So why aren't apes using at least bows and arrows by now?
Solve problems, post new ciphers in thread, etc
Today’s Crypto University Challenges are:
G1 Undergrad at CU
Just something hopefully easy to get started. Crack the cipher. (Note: the spaces are just grouping, the underscores are the real spaces.)
WOTHL EMOEU LE__B C_TC!
G2 Master's Program
To get a Master's Degree or Ph.D at CU you must analyze this encryption program I just made.
The python code can be found here:
https://pastebin.com/VdgwPdwY
Let me explain how the encryption program works.
You choose a key, which can be any number really. The ith letter is encrypted like this:
[eqn]cipher_i = [ message_i + (key*(i+1)\mod 95 ) ] \mod 95 [/eqn]
Which produces a random (based on the key) value between 0 and 94, add 32 to get an ASCII character.
You can use the program by typing these commands:
encrypt(42046,"I'm pregnant")
Output: "8WBkFqL,W={
G2: Tell me which values would not be effective as keys.
G3 PhD Program
(I do not know the answers to these questions, nobody does, that is why it is PhD level )
Either find a way to crack this cipher
80pnt{n?AZY?ygA*fb0}mG&hK@y[Y
OR you can also find some kind of attack or vulnerability with the system. Let me know if chosen plaintext or any other information can help you crack the cipher.
Sincerely yours,

Why aren't schoolchildren taught to count with different number systems other than the decimal system?
Because most of the population is fucking retarded. Other bases are only useful for a handful of people.

Why is it theoretically impossible to travel to a parallel universe?
its not
>>8895946
Theoretically easier to travel to an alternate universe according to the diagram.
Getting to a multiverse might be even harder though if that diagram is correct and there is an inflating empty space.
If Occams Razor is to be applied. A parallel universe must be on the outside the fabric of this universes reality assuming space time is the fabric.
>>8895946
We can't even reach the edge of the observable universe because of the very small acceleration of expansion; this is called the cosmic event horizon.
In eternal inflation -- the most popular scientific multiverse theory -- it is even worse: the space between universes is still undergoing inflation, with distances growing rapidly and exponentially.

So, supposedly a line is actually a set of an infinite amount of points -- meaning for any two points A and B on the line, you could always find some point C that's in between A and B.
If this is the case, wouldn't this imply that you could start with a dimensionless point with length 0, and keep adding more of these until you get some non-zero length? How the fuck does that work?
>>8895458
>wouldn't this imply that you could start with a dimensionless point with length 0, and keep adding more of these until you get some non-zero length
Nope
A dimensionless point is a point, any more than that and you have a line
