Hi /sci/, I'm a newfag. Why is CS considered a meme?
I'm on my first year of CS and I fucking love it. I honestly didn't even went to CS after the money.
And well, I hope I don't end up as a code monkey. What are your thoughts?
>>8887144
its considered a meme because the fucking p90, ump, all pistols and the scout are all broken as shit
Yeah I definitely set myself up for this one lol
>>8887144
It is considered a meme because it is considered as the new-age factory job.
To draw out the analogy, yes you can be a factory worker making sure the machine is working. Or you can be an engineer making sure it doesnt break. Or you can be a scientist developing new ways to accomplish the same process.
Code monkeys fall under the category of being just factory workings in the realm of STEM, at the same level or below as technicians.
Long story short, you can do brilliant things with CS but it is easier to fall into overly simplified grunt work, hence the meme.
Am I autistic if I use one of these to concentrate when I study?
I'm not hyperactive or anything but all these intense stimuli we get exposed to like videogames and TV make it hard for me to focus sometimes
>>8886775
What are these and how do they work?
>>8886775
If it helps you and doesn't distract others I don't see any problem with it OP
>>8886775
What the fuck is that?
How do you feel knowing these chads got absolute bullshit papers published in theoretical physics and you're still TAing smelly freshmen?
I could say shit like this but make it worse.
>"How do you feel that Bill Nye will be more recognized than you'll ever be?
>"How do you feel that Two chainz/soldier boi/insert shit rapper here will make more money than anything you may ever discover?"
Could be worse.
>>8886808
How does it feel to know that society values Kim Kardashian more than almost every genius in history
>>8886837
Worse that they don't even know the names of said geniuses.
0.123456789... ∞ = ∞
123456789... ∞ = ∞^2
∞ = ∞^3
what
>>8886624
0.123456789... = ~ sqrt2 - .2
123456789... ∞ = ∞
∞ = ∞
>>8886624
Normal mathematical rules don't apply for infinity you absolute fucktard, fuck outta here I bet you thought you just discovered some genius math anomaly that nobody has found before
You should be able to find the red area.
Brainlets need not apply.
Hint: This problem is entirely solvable using freshman math.
>>8886315
not possible
>>8886316
It should absolutely be possible
>>8886315
Nice homework thread
>Brief reminder : Gravitation aka MTW will be reedited by princeton for 60$ on the 30th of october this year.
http://press.princeton.edu/titles/11169.html
Is it still a reference 40 years later ?
How much time will it still hold before relativity get beaten by a quatum gravitational model ?
Are you hyped ?
Will you buy it ?
Have you prepared yourself with a course on special relativity ?
>Inb4 "This book is a meme"
>inb4 "Buying book is a meme"
>inb4 all the other pointless arguments
>>8886164
>Yes
>It's still going to be a 10/10 GR reference
>No, hype is for retards
>Yes
>I've already taken GR during my M.Sc.
>>8886164
>yes, emphasis on reference
>I mean it already has in a sense
>I look forward to catching it someone's office and asking to borrow it
>probably not, it's not relevant enough to my day to day
>it's section on special relativity is one of the few parts of the book I would recommend to first time learners actually (I haven't looked at it in years but I remember it being good for the more mathematically minded physics major)
Thanks for letting me know about this though.
My professors call this the "doorstop". Is this worth buying?
1. 0.99999.... is not 1
2. Light DOES have a mass it just hasn't been measured yet
3. The Higgs Boson is a fake discovery and it's supposed spin is not being "revealed" for some reason
4. Solar roads are forgotten about mysteriously probably due to the big money flowing from Elon Musk to shush such ideas
5. -1/12 fags need to off themselves
6. Squaring the circle should not be allowed for a mathematical proof (muh hyberbolic you just don't get it)
7. Using "brainlet" should get you permabanned.
8. Pic unrelated just really into them right now
gr8 b8 m8, i r8 8/8

t. brainlet
>>8886134
>1
By any sensible definition, it is.
>2
Nah, it doesn't by definition.
>3
"Things I don't understand aren't real!"
>4
Solar roads are a fucking retarded idea.
>5
"Things I don't understand aren't real!"
>6
Why not?
>7
t. brainlet

This does not surprise me in the least.
So if people fear that if global warming is real and the ocean levels will rise, couldn't we drill holes REALLY deep so that it displaces the water once there is too much?
>mfw OP is not only a climate denier but also a hollow-earther
>>8886126
Al Gore made his money off that. He lives on the coast now.
My friend and I want to make YouTube videos about space for a Latin American audience. What would be a good introductory topic to start?
>>8885928
what is space?
>>8885928
Start with expansion of universe ( different ages of the evolving universe
Then hit on star formations, basics of nuclear fusion, diff types of stars.
Then planetary formation and composition
Then relate planets and sun, discuss methods of finding other planets in solar universe
Maybe some bubble theory to keep your panties wet
>>8885934
nail on head
So, what's up with this current fad of getting a solar celling, connecting it to a Peltier heat pump (basically making a dehumidifier) and proceeding to call it 'ground breaking' water collection technology that is going to revolutionise the world?
Whereas it is equally as beneficial (and saves money in R&D) to simply get a solar panel and hook it up to a pre-built dehumidifier?
What is up with this and why are so many 'engineers' claiming this 'breakthrough'?
>>8885547
>engineers
The majority of them are art and design students. Either that or they're continental Euro """engineers""".
>>8885553
There's a recent one (with a published study) by MIT engineers?
>>8885547
What the fuck are you even talking about? The current breakthrough that everyone is talking about does not use a peltier cooler:

Have there been any studies done on the ejaculation strength and how it relates to the sex of the offspring?
Pic related basically explains my reasoning:
The more force behind your ejaculation, the further ahead the female sperm will be relative to the male sperm. Conversely, the less distance between the male and female sperm, the more likely the male sperm is to overtake the female sperm. So basically the hypothesis is that more powerful ejaculation = higher probability of producing a female. Thoughts?
either way you should abort it because you're going to get klinefelter babies with sperm like that
>>8885245
Ok, disregarding that. Is there anything blatantly retarded about my hypothesis?
a sperm doesn't immediately fertilize the egg upon reaching it
a large number of sperm can reach the egg and basically orbit it until one of them is permitted to enter
Is he /our guy/?
>>8885235
>psychology
>/our guy/ on /sci/
Nice thread
>>8885609
None of you brainlet know who he is.
>>8885235
He isn't even psychology's guy
If you hooked up electrodes to a car battery and stuck one electrode up your butt and touched the other to your tongue, how much of a shock would you experience? What's the electrical resistance between your mouth and anus? Post sources; I was having trouble finding any.
>>8885148
I wouldn't do that. I'm not sure of the electrical resistance between the mouth and anus but through your blood stream it is low enough that it is theoretically possible that a 9v battery can stop your heart if you pierce both your hands.
>>8885148
IDK, but I can guarantee the world's gushiest orgasm
Someone try it. I need to know.
Why do so many normies idolize this faggot?
>muh electric cars
Literally couldn't produce quality made vehicles at affordable prices. Lets also note the fact that electric cars are just not enviornmentally friendly as they claim they are when it comes to manufacturing
>muh hyperloop
A idea he dumped on those who want to suck his dick, only to provide very shitty test results and ignoring some basic understanding of vacuums.
>muh 3-d tunnels
>Showing his autism in wanting to dig tunnels for car's car.
Why is society being cucked by this man? All he did was manage to suck tax dollars and get rockets to land after use.
>>8884734
B-but he landed a rocket... in the sea...
>>8884734
He is one of the few people that are trying to push technology to do great things.
I find the praise he gets annoying too, but I also give the man his due credit. He has a rare combination of business sense and technical sense.
>>8884757
This, while a great achievement, has sold his ideas and views to idiots out there. Anyone with enough time and money could of done this as well but its ridiculous this man is given credit for those he hired to make it an accomplishment
>>8884758
Well this is true that he has shown great interest, I find it now that he trying to pull out anything out of his ass to just generate more hype for his business instead of making any real progress. All he has been doing is combing old tech.
Hey, Canadafag here, my little bro is in grade 10 now and he wants to do something useful for grade 11 and 12. He's smart but doesnt really want to do shit. I think he got tested for 135IQ, so he has a bunch of schools and programs that would take him. Right now he's looking at AP, and IB. He wants to do IB but he's not sure if it's worth it for university. Any IB grads here that can vouch for it's usefulness for uni applications, and curriculum?
Ib is shit in the sense that they try to teach you "advanced topics" but in a really shit way. At least for science and math. It is challenging though, and if you do well it can aid you if you want to go to college, though it's not that useful in the U.S. But well, all highschool education sucks so just tell him to focus so he can enter a good uni and that he should suck up.
>>8884729
>my little bro is in grade 10 now and he wants to do something useful for grade 11 and 12.
Protip: you are fooling exactly 0 people into thinking you aren't the tenth grader
>>8884938
I highly doubt so. What tenth grader would unironically lurk /sci/?
