Can drinking this stuff decalcify my pineal gland?
I use it to dechlorinate tap water for my salamanders. The principle ingredients are: Sodium Hydroxymethane Sulfate
Chelating Compounds,
Polyvinylpyrollidones,
and Organic Hydrocolloids.

Is going into materials science a waste of time?

Everyone's life is a waste of time, I just wanna make it less sufferable.
>>
>>7743109
how is material science a waste of time? you realize that it deals with improving almost every field of science and engineering right? from electronics to optics to transportation to architecture to medicine to etc, it has applications every fucking where. if anything it's the best choice of applying solid state and condensed matter physics but not being locked into an engineering field where you aren't really capable of working outside thresholds. i'm debating on switching from computer science to it just so i can get into superconductor and alltrope structures of nanowire batteries.

Is science's position on deja vu pretty much that it must just be fake memory recollection? What other ideas are out there that are possible in your opinion?

I heard an idea once that during sleep, neurons can fire so fast that they might take and transmit bits of information from the future.

How I understand it u have 2 (for a lack of a better term) things that intemperate what u see match it up and send it on to ur brain and deja vu occurs when the first censer doesn't wait to much up info with the second so the same info gets sent to your brain slightly apart

Anniversary of the sun and the moon; it's a wedding ring. The moon is the wife of the Sun, on this day they consumated their marriage and conceived baby Jesus.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/22%C2%B0_halo

A 22° halo is a halo, one type of optical phenomenon, forming a circle with a radius of approximately 22° around the Sun, or occasionally the Moon (also called a moon ring or winter halo). It forms as sunlight is refracted in millions of randomly oriented hexagonal ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere. The halo is large; the radius is roughly the size of an outstretched hand at arm's length.[1] A 22° halo may be visible on as many as 100 days per year—much more frequently than rainbows.[1]

Pic semi related. Freud talked about people getting stuck at different stages of their age/psychological development, often related to trauma or drama of sufficient magnitude. I think I just realized im stuck at like 12-14 when we moved Memphis to nowhere Texas to live in the dirt, with a bunch of animals. Then they fuckin got divorced, dad getting kicked out to leave the rest of us in relative squallor. I was a whiz kid all through school, then it all just dropped off. Went from str8As to str8Cs in like 2 years. I always got a high nintey on the tests, but i never did the homework, totally phoned it in. I just want a stable household.

I don't think you get stuck at a certain developmental stage. You just gain certain needs and latch onto them. A lot of these needs cannot be meaningfully described in terms of a stage of someone's life, they're just issues that need to be reconciled.

My own issue is I just want to feel comfortable and understood, but some part of me is terrified of it. So I'd still have a problem even if I were to have what I wanted. You could say this is a teenage hangup, but the simple fact is, it never happened for me. No one understand what chronic pain and anxiety does to a person, so I just don't tell anyone. No one knows what severe health problems do to a person in their early teens while living in a broken family situation with disjointed demands I simply could not ever fill.

You don't get stuck. You get issues, and you carry them with you for years. They change with you, but their core likely remains the same. Freud had good ideas, but only if you pick elements out that are worthwhile.

thanks for answering sincerely and in a helpful manner. Im glad I noticed this facet though, because knowing is the first step to beating it.

i sort of get you, OP. bad shit happened when I was about 15, family related and continued all of the way up to this day and I'm 20 now. I'm about to go off to university and never see this shit-hole again. I just want a stable, happy family and I tbqh can't wait until I find someone to do that with. I think it made me more down to earth, having such a terrible family. it's probably special-snowflake tier, but I have just always had that in the back of my mind: if I meet someone, I'm going to be a good person to them and if we have children, I'm going to be a good father and husband and have always made that a point etc etc you know what I mean.

Hello /sci/.
Today I saw an article about this paper: http://www.nature.com/nnano/journal/vaop/ncurrent/full/nnano.2015.292.html

They say that injecting this in the tumor made the immune system go after the cancer cells and offered protection against metastases. Do you guys know of where reseearchers buy this kind of virus for their work? I have been searching all day but I can't really find anything. Any help or pointers would be very appreciated.

eCPMV production and characterization
eCPMV capsids were produced through agroinfiltration of Nicotianabenthamiana plants with a culture of Agrobacteriumtumefaciens LBA4404 transformed with the binary plasmid pEAQexpress-VP60-24K, which contains genes for the coat protein precursor VP60 and its 24K viral proteinase to cleave it into its mature form. Six days post-infiltration, the leaves were harvested and eCPMV extracted using established procedures47. PVPP was added during purification to remove plant phenolics. Dye-labeled formulations were made by reacting eCPMV with Alexa Fluor 488 maleimide at 2mgml–1 concentration with 10% (v/v) DMSO in 0.1M potassium phosphate buffer then purifying by ultracentrifugation pelleting. The particle concentration was measured using UV/Vis spectroscopy (ε280nm=1.28mg−1mlcm−1), and particle integrity was determined by transmission electron microscopy, fast protein liquid chromatography, and agarose gel electrophoresis. Capsid proteins were further analysed by SDS-PAGE and Western blotting. Quantification of LPS in the sample was measured using an LAL Chromogenic Endotoxin Quantitation Kit (Pierce) and revealed LPS levels below the detectable level of 50pg–50µg of eCPMV. Full characterization of the eCPMV particles is available in Supplementary Fig. 8.

What's /sci/'s favourite scientific youtuber?
35 posts and 2 images submitted.

Brady Heran. He runs numberphile, sixty symbols, periodic videos, objectivity, and a bunch of other channels.

While not strictly /sci/ related, he does a good podcast with his friend who is a former physics teacher but now a youtuber, cgp grey. Podcast is called Hello Internet.

Scishow is OK for news. Crash course is OK for overview or review.

There are a bunch of professors around the world who do online supplements on YouTube too. Currently I'm watching a differential form playlist.

How do you stay motivated to self-learn and not just play vidya or waste your free time with entertainment media?

I'm not a NEET, I'm a student and I get good grades but sometimes it's just hard to develop that initiative that separates high achievers from those who are just good at taking tests, you know?

I go to sleep and then i start thinking about how i wasted a whole day, then i feel motivated. The next day dont remember that i was motivated and do nothing again.

But there is a powerful tool that works for me. I set the things i want to do when i motivated in a way that its not a choice whether i do them or not. For example:
I could register for this semester 5 courses in college, but i registered 7. Its not a choice now, i have to take them. I want to learn german, but this duolingo shit isn't working i cant do it for myself, so i go to a languages school and i pay a lot of dollars, now it isnt a choice to go and learn german, i have to go.
>>
I enjoy learning new things.

If I come across something and I'm curious as to how it works or I discover I'm ignorant in a certain subject, I research it.

I have a list of goals I want to meet and constantly berate myself for how little effort I put into them each day; this motivates me to do better the next day.
>I know berating ones self isn't healthy but until I get better I need to work with what I do naturally
