How do I activate or deactivate almonds?
15 posts and 2 images submitted.

Can't I just soak them in phytic acid?
>>
What are activated deactivated almonds?
>>
Activated almonds are a real thing. You soak them in water for 12 hours and then dehydrate them for 24 hours at about 38-40 degrees Celsius.

Apparently, its more digestible when you remove various phytochemicals that prevent your body from receiving the full benefit of the nutrients almonds contain.

How is the sun on fire if there is no oxygen in space?
15 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>

Space is actually an oxygen rich environment. It's alittle known secret kept to keep the common man from leaving earth. It actually supplies us with our oxygen as well.
>>
>>7748224
This. Have you not gotten your Free Thinking certificate in your uni yet? They teach you everything you need to know to prosper in science that was kept from you.

Sun isn't in fire. On the sun is working fusion. Decomposition heavier elements to lighter elements. It doesn't need oxygen, it's not fire!

I've really discovered the satisfaction of casual brainteasers this holiday.

Have a go at this one - it requires only high-school level maths, but has a nasty twist to it that necessitates careful thought.

I can give you hints if you want.

What are your study habits?

From elementary to high school, I used to feel like everyone is better than me because of their grades. My self esteem was pretty low and I think those two things were connected. But the problem here was that I just didn't put any effort into anything. I never studied for more than 1 day (not full day, like max 2 hours of effort) before the test. I didn't take school seriously. But I still felt like everyone is just simply smarter and that I could never achieve that. So I used to get grades like C, sometimes B, but a lot of times also D, and I also had to retake some exams, but I just didn't care, all I cared about was passing the year.

So I'm finally making a change. I feel the want of it burning inside of me.

I want for studying to become my passion. I want to study every day, I want to make up for what I missed when I was in high school by not getting grades that I could. I want to prove to myself that I am capable. I want to obtain the knowledge of the world and beyond. I want my brain to work at it's best and I don't want to die thinking that I didn't use my full potential. I don't want to waste any other day not learning something. Today I've spent my whole day studying math and I feel so proud of myself. Also yesterday. Feels good man.

you can't change your lazy habits, its your nature and its the way your brain works, you should chunk your study in small pieces for example solving a problem every two hours in the day.
>>
>>7747727
but we can rewire brain, right.
>>
You just need to get more interested. When you learn more you also get to understand very interesting results and problems which will drive you forwards.

Why aren't more creative, forward thinking, and straight up intuitive individuals teaching us? Of all the teachers I've ever had in my youth, maybe 1 in 7 ever seemed to give a damn and not treat their profession as some going through the motions job where it was advantageous to fill us in -wink wink- on what's relevant to pass the test and not to bother engaging in any material whatsoever. I hate my American education. I had to train myself to be brilliant because nobody else would and in my opinion this is unacceptable. Clearly unacceptable and god, does it make me boil and does my skin crawl knowing thousands if not millions more will be trained into this attitude and perception that learning is meant to be a chore that is only a means to achieving the bare minimum before being thrown into a world where a meager salary with easy spoils are accepted as a valid form of happiness. Nobody cares about anyone. That's the society we have at this moment and the state of education. We aren't fostered with love or an appreciation for anything. Capitalism has corrupted our very core and it's make the education system into a self defeating hell. There's gotta be something! Anything that can resolve this!!! I'm angry and you should be just as angry as I.

Okay, so I'm not sure how this thread will go over on /sci/, but I expect the replies here will be a lot more interesting than anything /x/ would come up with.

So, my question is this: what are some oddly interesting theories you've heard from any field? Not necessarily ones that are likely, but unique ideas that you find intriguing. I'll start with two of my favourite biology ones.

>Neanderthal predation theory: instead of looking like slightly brawnier humans, Neanderthals actually looked more apelike (see pic) and actively preyed on early Homo sapiens. Author of this theory believes that legends like werewolves and satyrs are in fact distorted legends of predatory Neanderthal bands.

Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis

An ash layer has been found in a 50 million square kilometer area with evidence of carbon spherules and nanodiamonds which supposedly only form during impact and spread as ejecta.

The theory gives reason for the Quarternary extinction event and the creation of the Channeled Scablands of Washington.

>TLDR

a handful of 2 kilometer wide bolides collide with the ice sheets covering Canada around 12,800 years ago. The extreme amounts of melted and evaporated fresh water sends the earth deep back into the iceage it was coming out of. It took the earth around 1000 years to recover. Humans began to or reorganized into civilizations at the end of this 1000 year period (see Gobekli Tepe)

My adviser's old adviser has spent the last years of his life apparently writing a theory for how the quantization of things like angular momentum and charge and such of elementary particles can be explained from the algebra of knots formed by some sort of primordial strings.
It's not string theory, but for the life of me I have no idea what it's called.

>>7747683
that's not actually a theory. it was invented as a joke.

Electronics have been in a 40 year bubble, we don't need bigger TV's, smaller cell phones, smarter appliances, or to be quite frank, faster home computers... I could go on. EE's have done amazing things in the past, but we have reached the top of the S curve, there is nowhere else to go.
>>
I'd like to think this is less drastic than the article implies; EE s are still important for hardware design, and since I'm minoring in CS I'm essentially a computer engineer so even if it's true hopefully I won't be as impacted....

I know this is the wrong board but there is no correct board for my question.

Some years ago i have gotten punched at my nose from the side and the bone of my nose on the upper part, don´t know the name for it, slided to the left.

My straight nose looks like a "C" now. I had a surgery but that incompetent doctor was not able to make it straight. I don´t know, why he did not just break my nose..

Anyway, my thought now is, to let my nose hit again but from the other side. That way that bone should slide back to it´s old position by breaking, right?

I don´t want to pay 4000 euro for it. I can´t. So what do you guys honestly think of this?

Sorry for my bad english.

What's your opinion on this book /sci/? (Aside from the pricetag, which i agree its overpriced)

I'm in my second year of undergrad and we have our own course, which is written by our professor in dutch, however you can clearly see he based his work on this book. (same chapters, similar content etc).

Personally I like the approach and find the book quiet good if you have access to a assistent who can help you if you're stuck on a problem and if you try to work out all the problems in book.

I don't like the organization. IMO a QM book should start off with dirac notation, quantum states, etc. And build its way to the Schrödinger equation and the concept of a wavefunction.

still a great book though
