As a metaphor it can be said that the Riemann Zeta function is that where you have a mechanical bull and it's rider; the rider plays the function of meta-physical resistance to the bulls tetrating speed, the tetration is caused by the allocation of input compared to the riders proficiency, but there's a catch, the resistance that the rider portrays is created as the input of energy is put up is increased exponentially to the point that the bull bulls energy distribution when put into further energy heights becomes so chaotic that the rider has full operation distribution over the bull and just before the mechanical bull snaps off its axis the rider becomes the operator, and the distribution flips so that the maximum occupancy of the bull increases and the sectoring of the operator that is regulating input energy, although the dial already be at max; that the dial seems to just be sitting at minimum input.

Well, almost a month ago my mom got the idea of doing an iq test, so we contacted mensa and we did one. Well, three days ago my mom and I received our letter of acceptance. Turns out my iq is barely above the minimum requirement and my mom's iq is probably higher than the test limit. I'm a physics student and my mom is a entrepreneur. She managed to get out of poverty by selling candies. I can't even get out of college. So /sci/, do I even get any chance of succeeding in life?

ps: my mom can do every assignment that I get on college.
sry about any mistake that I made. English is not even my second language.

What are you angry about? Just work harder. If you mom can do every assignment without prerequisite knowledge then your uni is shit.

She studied the feynman lectures when she was younger. I got interested in physics because of her and those books. I'm just frustrated as fu.ck.

Look around you... the carpet, the walls, the desk, the computer itself... these are all constructs of the shared reality of our species. They do not exist, except in our minds. When you leave the room, they turn back into reality, resonant particles. When you return to the room, your mind recreates them as the shared constructs given to you by your ancestral lineage and the kindred consciousness that abides alongside you in this floating matrix.

tldr; ? if you were the only one of your species left alive, for you existence would cease to exist.

If we're living in a computer, then I think it would take a very powerful computer. The most powerful computer we know of is the biological brain. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to say that all we are and experience is the dream of an unfathomably intelligent living being?
>>
>>7745983
Which begs the next question...

Are our dreams reality for somebody? Are the people we dream about alive in some way, if only when we're asleep? Maybe the reason people aren't aware and conscious in their dream is because it's all being shared by the people you're dreaming about.

Why is Abstract Algebra so much more fun than any kind of Analysis class?

I'd prefer it if abstract algebra was taught the same way as general topology.

General topology teaches students to reason about topologies in general instead of a narrow handful of pretty cases. For instance a student of general topology has to be capable of creating topologies to satisfy any type of criteria off the top of their head as opposed to regurgitating some named topology they memorized as an example at some point.

On the other hand, in an abstract algebra class students never try to construct any weird groups/rings by hand or build an intuition about the general case. Instead they only look at modulo groups, groups of prime orders, and a small handful of named examples of groups and similarly for rings. Worse still the entire class is eventually just geared at studying polynomials because of muh quintic polynomial meme.

All of the interesting bits of algebra are covered in category theory anyways.

To answer the question we need to understand how the human mind works and brings about consciousness. Sadly no one on earth does except Jesus and He's not talking...
>>
>>7745926
Why is this image still used in 2015? You have to be ignorant of human evolution to think that's how it is.

>does anyone here have good knowledge of science so as to know if humans really have the same ancestor with apes?
>I mean, really once upon a time it was the same being?
Go read a fucking textbook. There is a massive amount of fossil and genetic evidence and this is a settled fact.

>if so,why it happened only that creature to evolve and develop such intellect and speech?why are there no such supperior mammals like humen, coming from the ancestors of sharks, lions e.t.c?
Why would you expect it to happen? Evolution is dependent on mutations which occur randomly. Complex behaviors and organs don't just happen because they are beneficial.

A very small amount of cyanide is in apple seeds, but even then the seed has to be crushed or broken open in some way to release the cyanide. Apple seeds just pass right through humans unless the shell is broken. I think the amount of cyanide is so small you'd need a ridiculous amount of seeds to get anything substantial. Pic related however is what you want if you want to get cyanide from plants.
>>
>>7745917
there is, you just need to make it react with digestive enzymes (by eating it for example).
You need ~100g of apple seeds to kill someone.
>>
>>7745935
Not especially, it's just something i hetd from my friends. I was just thinking that the cyanide wasn't so simple to obtain, even if it's just a little. Thanks

Tihange-1 and Tihange-2 are old fission reactors build in 1975 in Hoei, Belgium (see pic). Doel 1, Doel 2, Doel 3 are old fission reactors build in 1975 in the harbor of Antwerp.

They just started Tihange 2 in September.

A short list of what went wrong:

September 2015 - Tihange-1 waterpump failure. Reactor was shut down and it took 10 days to fix. Afterwards the reactor was restarted.

18th November. A fire was blazing in the Tihange-1. The reactor was shut down. Fire was put out. Reactor is up again.

MEANWHILE IN ANTWERP

24th November. Waterleak at the Doel 3 reactor in Antwerp. It's under control

24th November. The 1975 built Doel 2 reactor is made active again.

Tomorrow, 27th November, they are going to restart the 1975 built Doel 1 nuclear reactor.

______________________

Summed up; the highly unstable government of Belgium has just restarted 5 old nuclear reactors from 1975 and multiple technical failures have already happend in the last 2 months. I have a feeling this is not going to end well. These old reactors are VERY outdated. If a major accident happens here it might mean the end of all fission....
Luckily I live in the most northern province of the Netherlands. How far would a nuclear fallout zone be ?

If you become a well known politician. Otherwise you just look like you made a "I'm going to major in philosophy"-tier decision.

Nope.

Learn this quick OP. The fastest way to a well paying job is to
>1) identify the jobs everyone says has a respectable salary
(these are usually STEM related but can be economics, etc)
>2) identify the one you are truly interested in
(this is much more difficult than people think. Interests change over time. I was lucky enough to choose a field as a naive undergrad that I enjoy. Not sure if it's exactly what I want though)
>3) be the best you possibly can be and work your ass off.
There are no jobs for people who just get a degree. There is no money for people who aren't interested/good at what they do. Work hard and demonstrate genuine interest and you can break into the field you want.

If we evolved from the monkey how come we don't have feline/avian humanids as well?
14 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Ugh

Evolution doesn't work like that. Felines and Avians are not humanoid, and therefore would not evolve further with these characteristics. Ape ancestors did.
Also, we didn't evolve -from- the monkeys, we share a common ancestor with monkeys.

Sci, what do we know about the health properties (positive or negative) of magnets?

I know of one study they did back in the 90s where they put magnets on post-polio patients who had muscular or arthritic-like pain. The magnets (static, not varying magnetic fields) ranged between 300 and 500 Gauss.
"Patients who received the active device experienced an average pain score decrease of 4.4 +/- 3.1 (p < .0001) on a 10-point scale. Those with the placebo devices experienced a decrease of 1.1 +/- 1.6 points (p < .005)."

The study: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9365349

So apparently magnets may have some potential to reduce pain. A few questions I have:

1) What could be a mechanism for this reduction in pain?
2) Does the north or south pole direction matter?
3) Are there any other studies you know of that talk about health effects of magnets?

it seems crazy but maybe it works

maybe it accentuates the signals of the neurotransmitters affect on polarity, increasing the peaks? That might further recruit anti-pain responses like shunting and endorphins
>>
here is my dumbass two cents idea

from what i can tell pulses of current run through nerves to make signals, so maybe magnets interfere with those current pulses somehow to diminish them

Dear 4chan users, for couple of days now my mom is suffering in pain, doctors(so far) don't know nothing and just drug her to relief in agony. The thing is, it is xmas time and specialists are closed and till monday we are looking for help in the internet. I attach RTG scans of her hand. Blood examination results exclude inflamations etc, the "doctor" though, focused on the little bone next to the thumb.
I am ready to answer questions if anybody knows the drill and know what to do. Below I leave links to rtg scans.
