You're absolutely right about ITER-style tokamaks or stellarators, but I'm getting increasingly excited for developments from lockheed martin and Helion energy that might allow us to build fusion power plants that aren't stadium-sized feats of hypercomplex, hyperexpensive engineering, but more modestly sized reactors that have a build time measured in a few years instead of a decade or more. Skepticism is certainly warranted-we all know about how eagerly people have been pursuing fusion for the last 60 years, with gradually increasing returns but quite a few false starts and dead ends-but given massive advances in our understanding of plasma physics, and in computer technology, I think we might be within striking distance of commercial viability.

As your work starts to overlap with other groups, your probability of scoopage increases. I've never been scooped but frankly my work wasn't as high impact as I was hoping. So there's a trade off: 1. work on boring-ish projects no one is doing or cares about or 2. work on interesting things that everyone else is probably trying to solve and risk getting scooped. Find something in between for your graduate work.

For me, I think the most important thing is to always teach some level of understanding and motivation. In math, prove stuff! Don't just teach a technique to solve a textbook problem without explaining why and how it works. Same in Physics. Try to derive everything that you can, don't just throw random equations at them. We make everyone learn these subjects not so that they can find the sin(30) or so they can find the velocity of a falling mass. We teach to help everyone practice their ability to reason, and understand abstract ideas. If you take out the beautiful parts, it's worse than useless, and it's not even fun to learn about. Further, it's absolutely terrible preparation for anyone who actually wants to pursue these subjects after high school.

I would tell the students about interesting problems in the fields of mathematics and physics today. Talk to them about how there is no proof of Goldbach's conjecture or how recently Fermat's Last Theorem was proved.

"There is no medical evidence" seems pretty self-explanatory to me. If there hasn't been found any kind of relation between consuming dairy and acne, then there is no medical evidence for dairy affecting acne, and that's it. It can't mean that the relation of acne and dairy has been thoroughly studied from EVERY possible angle in EVERY possible situation, but rather that there is no obvious link to be found between the two.

So if you feel sure that consuming dairy makes your acne bad then you probably should avoid dairy products. It can be the result of many things in your spesific situation rather than a clear link between just acne and dairy.
