brainlet here, just had a calc 1 exam. There was a related rates problem, da/dt (surface area) is given, what is dv/dt of a cube when v=8.
Surface area formula
A = 6s^2,
dA/dt = 12s(ds/dt),
subsitute dA/dt to get b=12s(ds/dt),
b/12s=ds/dt.
Then volume forumla
V=s^3,
dV/dt = 3s^2(ds/dt),
substitute ds/dt
getting dV/dt = 3s^2(b/12s)
then substitute to find s
V = s^3
8 = s^3
2=s
answer:
dV/dt = 3(2)^2[b/12(2)]
dV/dt = 12(b/24)
dV/dt = b/2
Did I dun did it right?

That's a matrix group. The set of all 3x3 matrices with determinant one and where A(A^T)=(A^T)A=I is a nonabelian group under Matrix multiplication.

today I thought of an idea to prevent tsunamis while taking a shit.
You know how when you put toilet paper down before you shit it doesnt splash as much when it makes touchdown? so the idea is because solids absorb force better if we scatter litter like plastic bottles offshore it could spread out the energy in a tsunami making it less intense.
can anyone confirm if this would work? I told my professor as a joke but I think it might have some credibility in it.

My guess is it could possibly work, but I'm no scientist, and aren't we trying to reduce the amount of plastic in the ocean? It would also make it hard for boats to move around the coast, and tsunamis (quite shockingly) tend to hit harbor towns i.e. towns that rely heavily on fishing and other kinds of movement at sea. Maybe if your "litter" were actually sailing drones that are computer coordinated it could work, but I reckon it would take a rather large amount of drones to literally stop the force of a tsunami.

Good question OP. Taking my first course in FEA right now, and our school uses Abaqus exclusively.
Might be one of those things where academia uses one package, but everyone in industry uses something different?
Hopefully some richfag with a job will come along and clue us in.

I discovered ANSYS by trolling job postings, it seems to be popular with employers. I do get the impression that Abaqus is more academic, which is definitely a turn-off, but it also seems a lot sleeker, which I like.

But they would have trouble developing more than primitve technology under water, since there is no fire obviously. But octopi could possibly start to live amphibiously, they seem to have little trouble surviving on land for a few hours.

So, as he said, if "you" and any other sense of individuality and sense of "self", whether an illusion or not, is a byproduct of physical activity coming from physical structures, why wouldn't "you" return from death in a few million years, assuming our descendants have the ability to remake those physical structures (rebuild a brain)?

What do you mean whether an illusion or not? That distinction makes all the difference. If it's an illusion, then there's never any "you" to return and that's the answer. What an illusion returning means is that the original merely believed in a "self" and the remake will merely believe in a "self."
