If you have enough time to read shitty blogs you have enough time to get versed in science. Why would you believe our opinions over other people's opinions? Get to actually knowing things instead of being strung along by whoever's agenda persuades your emotions more.

OP we'll let you in on a little secret. As far as we can tell, robots taking over humanity within the next decade has a 50/50 chance of occurring.
Either it happens, or it doesn't.

All there is to do now is take up smoking.

When will you stupid fucking brainlets realize that just because you can't prove that something yet exists doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

You fucking brainlets in 1850 would be saying the same stupid shit.
>There's no way you can split the atom anon. You can't prove it. Atom splitting doesn't exist.

Okay brainlets. Just like atom splitting you are wrong about God and other metaphysical concepts existing.

everything about science from 1900 to 1950 was objectively better than what we have now

>all kind of technologies discovered
>all kinds of medical breakthroughs, antibiotics, surgery techniques, brilliant inventors who give their shit away for free like the polio vaccine and insulin
>people always trying to figure out new shit, the sky was the limit

now
>pharamcorp spent another 10 billion on another boner drug lol
>doesn't matter if some guy came up with a breakthrough equivalent to the guys who discovered polio vaccine and insulin because it costs literal billions to get through the FDA regulations nowdays
>nothing new except meme shit discovered like boner pills and liposuction
>way too much red tape
>a bunch of autists sitting around telling you that science is settled and we can't possibly know anything more than we currently know right now

Are distinctions between digit ratio and general hand anatomy at all substantial, or are they closer to a soft science? I know the aforementioned ratio is relative to testosterone levels, but do you as an individual have an experience that justifies these claims? Pic very related

Prove it mathematically.

How do you figure? Proving that a rule is true in every case is pretty valuable, it allows you just use it without worrying whether it will apply to the specific problem at hand as long as it's within the parameters of the proof.

If there is no mathematical proof, it doesn't exist.

They are harmful when your immune system is bad for whatever reasons (stress, malnutrition, etc) and when your non-pathogenic bacteria in and on your body are not quite numerous.
>>
>>8419167
If you believe that pathogens are only dangerous when your immune system isn't functioning correctly then you're pretty ignorant

I have a theory about why life might be easier for women than men, in modern society.

In the animal world, males and females tend to have equally difficult lives. You might say "but females have to care for young, while men just dump their sperm and beat it". This is true, but it still ends up being hard to be a male, since you have to work very hard to find a female to mate with. And you're much more likely to be a failure and never mate. An extreme example of this is the birds of paradise. Take a look at this poor son of a bitch:

https://youtu.be/W7QZnwKqopo?t=2m6s

This is all well understood by biologists. But here is my theory: Society has done a lot to mitigate the costs to females of having kids. For one, giving birth used to be like playing Russian roulette, but thanks to modern science, death from giving birth is almost unheard of. Secondly, we have laws that ensure the man provides 18 years of support, on par with what the mother provides in terms of resources. And we have paternity tests to take away the uncertainty from parentage, which often hung women out to dry in the past.

Meanwhile, it's still just as hard as ever for men to impress mates, since it's a zero sum game. A lot of effort has been expended by men to attract more mates (fancy cars and winning nobel prizes) but all this does is allow some men to do better while others do worse.

Thoughts?

Is life really all that much easier for women? Seems pretty shitty if you ask me. You gotta deal with periods, you gotta worry more about STDs because your vagina is basically a bacterial/protozoan incubator compared to a urethra which is harder to infect, nobody takes you seriously because you're a woman, you gotta waste time applying makeup. I could go on, but I think I've made my point. I'm glad I was born a male.
>>
>>8419012
My explanation is simpler.

Western society has for the last age and a half put women on a sky scrapper of a pedestal and tries its best to please women.
>>
There are ups and downs for both sexes in society. I do feel that men typically have a harder time finding a mate, which as you stated, is likely the result of the biological drives of females. Females, at least in nature, want to be picky about their mate, because due to the sheer length of pregnancy and rearing a child would be strenuous or dangerous if the father was incompetent. However, on the flip side of the coin, men who have many desired traits get laid all the time. It's really an all or nothing type scenario- either you're a lucky stud or a poor dud.

Is it a realistic solution of the fermi paradox to assume that all intelligent species develop life like virtual reality earlier than viable interstellar travel and therefor just stay on their home planet for ever playing the Gods in their comfortable computer simulations?
Because that seems the most plausible to me

Is there some kind of quota being enforced that /sci/ needs at least 6 Fermi paradox threads per day?

no that's fucking dumb

the actual explanation is that the universe is really really big and the chance of intelligent being near enough to contact us is very remote

even if they had light speed travel they wouldn't be able to reach us

How much Trig is in Calc I? Do I need a Trig class beforehand? How much Calc is in Physics I? Will I need a Calc class beforehand? Sorry if this is a dumb question, my schools advisors have not helpful.

If you know what a sine and a cosine is, you should be pretty much set. Why do Americans need an entire university class on trigonometry anyway? Shouldn't you be doing that in school?
>>
>>8418663
>How much Trig is in Calc I?
Not a whole bunch. So long as you have taken a pre-calc course you should be fine. Calc 2 on the other hand has a lot of trig, generally speaking.

If you're completely oblivious to calculus and your alegebra is so-so you it might serve you better to take calc 1 first, albeit the calc isnt that rigorous. But if your algebra is on point you could get by taking the two together.
>>
>>8418663
>Why do Americans need an entire university class on trigonometry anyway?

I have never heard of a school offering Trig as a seperate course in my school district in the US but i have heard about it before. I think it was originally a secondary track for those not able to do pre-calc and calc. Algebra 2 covers trig very briefly and in pre-calc you really get the full trig treatment. So, for those not taking pre-calc learning trig is really helpful for real world application.

I tried to read the original article by Witten about the Witten effect. I realize that I had to pay 30 dollars for the article.

Find out about Sci Hub (arxiv has been my friend for too long!)
Find out about the "controversy" regarding the legitimacy of Sci Hub.
Some guy wrote "to steal is to steal."
Go to my article published on PRD. I realize I have to pay 25 dollars. Use Sci Hub to get my own article (it is on the arxiv, but I just wanted to see the "published" version.)

Am I stealing from myself?

Isn't science supposed to be divulged? How can I divulge science if I put a barrier (money) between the results and the people?

Note: As far as I know, referees don't get paid. Some people get pay for the transcript and correcting grammar mistakes, but that does not cost 25 per article!

>>
It's lining some middleman's pockets for sure. Same problem as academia.

You forget that people need houses and cars and lattes and caribbean vacations. That def costs 25 per article.

It will be amazing to see if Witten get's 10% from each of those 25. He might be rich without us knowing it!
