How do I stop mixing up addition with multiplication?
By killing yourself
>>8499347
What do you mean by this?
>>8499416
You can't mistake them by being dead.
How were the polls so wrong?
these polls are taken earlier than the only poll that matters (the one on election day)
also bad methodology (statistics is mathematical but it relies on a model with subjectively chosen factors to take into account)
they were simply fake

Has it outlived its usefulness? Will we see any significant advancements besides the Higgs before it goes out of commission? And, in the end, was it worth the cost?
>>8497650
Nope, Higgs boson was pretty important.
>>8497650
>And, in the end, was it worth the cost?
It is on the nature of basic research that we do not know the end.
>>8497650
>first research run in 2010

short attention-span much?
Hey /o, for my college science project, I made biodiesel, but now the problem is to prove that it works somehow. Any ideas? My budget is 200 dollars.

Theorem: I swear it works lol
Proof:
Suppose it doesn't work.
lol that would be dumb.
Therefore it works.

Is this the only way to accomplish something in /sci/? I can't believe how much time I waste shitposting, reading about politics, facebook, etc.

Dont tempt me, anon. Lately I've seriously been thinking about smashing my computer.

your pic is right. get off 4chan and stop fucking around. i spent 6 hours studying math today. no reason you can't do the same
if there is no random and all chemicals are math and humans are nothing but chemicals
then
not only does free will not exist, neither does consciousness
do you ever feel like life just isn't real enough?
what does it mean if maybe Tesla is right?
>>8495824
yes.
free will is physically impossible, but consciousness clearly does exist.
>>8495824
You are the first person to have had this spitball, and definitely the first to have posted it on /sci/.

Interesting subject. Any new research into this that anyone cares to share?
Also anyone care to explain their reasoning for disbelief in Abiogenesis as the origin of life?

Smart but lazy folks can be either smart of dumb, but they're not lazy.
They just don't want to apply themselves for fear that they might not actually be as smart as they think.
Is Europe superior over the US to work/study in the domain of science? Do any of you have experience with both? I'm an hs senior who's Swiss and American and I'm tryna figure out if I want to stay in Europe ...
Stay in Europe. America doesnt have any research. If they do, then its just a big competition on how shit you can go without getting your paper rejected
It's like vegan choosing from hot dogs... In swiss they have vegetables and fruits.

any useful tools for graphing a system of 2 partial differential equations?
I got initial conditions
>>8501112
If you tell me how to solve them theoretically, I will tell you what's the best software.

bruh u gots the conditions, i gots the weed this gone be fun
Portuguese engineering universities don't bet heavily on higher level maths. So, I guess I'll wait for a kinder anon
Although I am interested in learning the theory behind the method - so if anyone is patient enough, please do explain. I've read about finite volume method? Where you discretize your space and calculate values for each individual cell, but couldn't get much farther than that
LINT
Where the fuck does it come from?
No matter how many times I wash and dry my clothes there's fucking lint in the lint trap.
Are my clothes deteriorating?
>>8501027
>Are my clothes deteriorating?
we're all slowly deteriorating man
>>8501041
Only if you're 30+
Everything is deteriorating all the time. When something looks like it's not deteriorating, it's because something else is just deteriorating for it.
I don't understand how to complete this equation. I'm trying to FOIL it but I'm having a harder time than usual.

use the stupid questions thread next time, this is algebra 1 shit
>>8501013
[eqn] \left ( \sqrt { 3x + 1 } + 2 \right ) ^2 \\ = \left ( \sqrt { 3x + 1 } + 2 \right ) \times \left ( \sqrt { 3x + 1 } + 2 \right ) [/eqn] Take the right most term [math] \sqrt { 3x + 1 } [/math] and distribute it over the both terms in the second bracket, [eqn] \left ( \sqrt { 3x + 1 } + 2 \right ) \times \left ( \sqrt { 3x + 1 } + 2 \right ) \\ = 2 \times \left ( \sqrt { 3x + 1 } \times \sqrt { 3x + 1 } + 2 \times \sqrt { 3x + 1 } \right ) [/eqn]
Simplify that then just do the same with the remaining [math] 2 [/math]
Also in future look for the "stupid questions thread (SQT)" so right now it's over >>8495521
how the hell are we supposed to know what it is if the last number looks like a fucked up 2/z?
What's /sci/'s opinion on Cure-all supplements?
Do they work? Are they harmless? Whats the science behind them?
Placebos. They're allowed to be sold with vague medical claims because it's a huge industry with lobbyists. Fake medicine is always dangerous because it confuses and demotivates people who need medicine that actually works.
They can also cause things like Hypervitaminosis because people don't realize it's possible to overdose on Vitamin A, B6, etc.
If something isn't regulated, has no oversight, it's probably bogus for the most part. Without strict regulations, most of these supplements are just a waste of money, as there's no reason to have true quality control. Not to mention many supplements do not have a strong basis in peer-reviewed studies.
My mom takes so many bullshit supplements, she dumps thousands of dollars into buying bullshit "super food" pills every single year. No matter what I do, no matter what I tell her she refuses to listen to it. Fuck this new age bullshit.

how likely is it to die from excessive consumption of minerals?
It will suck if someone on my family dies from consuming these things, but I would hope that people around them will realize how these things are dangerous and should not be approached.
Is gender based on social roles that were made of initial sex diferences or is entirelly cultural?
Are you stupid or are you just pretending to be retarded?
>>8500901
serious question.
I do think gender traditional roles are biological.
I don't see how gender can be totally divorced from sex the way those weirdos claim. Which they say as turn around and say long hair and wearing a dress means they're a woman and you have to respect their pronouns. They're more gender adherent than CIS are ironically.
I'm struggling in math. I just had a long conversation with an old lady who graduated at MIT with a double-major in Math and she recommended these particular books. I can at least confirm she was an old white lady because she was on chegg. First, Chegg tutors being white is pretty rare. Second, she did not want to do my PDF review for me for my final while I had Indian guys messaging me who said it would take a minimum of 12 hours time to do the review step by step. Third, she said to cover up the solutions and work on the problems till your brain hurts. Lastly, she did want to setup a time for any questions I may be struggling with if any. Did I just come across an honest lady on chegg who did not want to milk me for money? Is she making $300,000k/yr. lol. She also agreed with me that professors really do not teach anymore. Literally, I probably suck at trig because I relied on MyMathLab DL. Is this series of books or outlines /sci/ approved?

No, no it isn't but does it hurt to give some simple advice for someone clearly struggling in life and math?
Very familiar situation like OP. I have a few wide gaps in Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry and I was recommended Art of Problem Solving series books. Are they any good? They're pretty expensive.
