Is there a limit to how much emotion one could theoretically feel, considering emotion is based entirely on chemicals? Could there be a hard cap to how much chemicals your body can produce to make you feel whatever emotion your brain decides on?
For example, dopamine. Is there a certain concentration you could reach to where any more would stop affecting you, or to where your body cannot produce more?

How can you quantify an emotion.
>>
Dopamine ins't just used for emotion. It is also used for mechanical functions such as postural stability. this gives rise to the thought that these neurotransmitters are only associated with emotions, and not actually responsible for emotions themselves.

Also, if you take into account that people faint from severe stress, then yes there is some sort of limit to emotions, but each emotion may have their own limit.
>>
I don't think concentration of neurotransmitters necessarily corresponds to 'intensity' of emotion (if such a thing could even be measured) - and I don't think you can reasonably say that emotion is entirely based on chemicals.

I have a math exam in the morning and Im cramping like crazy but I just figured out by seperating ideas into ridiculous things it makes it easier to remember the stuff. Why is the human brain so shit that you have to do this just to remember things constantly?

Why do universities make us take these stupid liberal arts classes?

It goes deeper than just getting credits and expanding your knowledge, and once you get older you will see the truth. Even seemingly pointless classes have their place.

How could you possibly not get an A in what's basically a very limited scope art history class.

are you considering graduate school or something otherwise who gives a fuck.

Did you have to take an art class or could you have done any humanities course?

Also why didn't you just take computer graphics?

So, I have a suitemate who I have to dorm with for 3 more weeks. Seeing as I am moving to an apartment and that this dude is a complete asshat, I wanted to do a harmless prank before I left. I was thinking along the lines of a small amount of contact explosive, like Nitrogen Triiodide, but I've made that before, and it stains everything. Are there any /sci/ themed pranks out there that won't get me expelled? Thanks.

Hey /sci/

I'm not a science fag, but I was thinking the other day. Since we have discovered most the naturally occurring elements, wouldn't other advanced life look like us, or at least similar?

Assuming there is only carbon-based life, how could life advance to the point we have reached without relatively resembling us in some fashion?

Also drunk as shit right now, but thought this made sense.

All life on EARTH doesn't even "look like us". An octopus doesn't look like us, and they're pretty surprisingly intelligent. A bird doesn't look like us, but some of them are pretty damn smart.

If any body shape or morphology appears on Earth, as long as it's physically large enough, there's no reason it couldn't end up as smart as a human if it somehow had selective pressure to become smarter. If advanced alien civilizations existed, they could very reasonably be squid things, or plants, or slugs, or a superorganism like a manofwar.

>Why is Civil engineering stuck 100 years in the past

its not. your perception of technology is retarded. you have been reading to many pop-sci click bait articles and think we are more advanced than we actually are. you are like every freshman mechanical engineering major who think he is going to build an iron man suit and be Tony Stark.
>>
Civil engineering is probably impossible to fully automate because basically every project is its own prototype. Nothing is ever the same because of changes in geography, demography, budget, resources, needs, time constraints, climate, etc...there's so many factors totally out of our control.

Construction, on the other hand, is on its way to being partially automated, but even then there will probably always be some people necessary.

Hey /sci/, I was going to post this in /adv/ or /g/, but I figured that you guys would probably know more about this topic and provide better answers than any of the people in the other two boards.

I am a very weird reader. I'm also kind of a slow one. When I read something online, I can skim through it and absorb shit easily, but when I sit down to read a book or a tech document, I read much slower and it's more difficult for me to absorb the information. It's almost like I treat reading completely differently in these two different scenarios.

My question is: How can I more efficiently absorb information while reading in general? Why can I read bullshit things so easily but when it comes to wanting to read something serious, I have to struggle with it?

What?
Some people seriously value animal life above human life?
Explain this to me.
17 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
I personally value human life more than animal life.
However, I think that the stance they take is due to the idea that animals can be seen as more "innocent" than humans. Humans have the ability to be "evil" to some degree, while animals are simply doing what animals do.

I disagree with their point of view because as animals ourselves, any kind of "evil" that we commit is simply because that is what we do.
I value human life over animal life because I understand that a single human has the potential to amount to more in society than most animals ever will.
>>
>>8503106
>valuing """human""" """life"""

I shiggy
>>
>>8503118
It's an internally broken argument. Yeah, animals are incapable of being "evil". Guess what, they also are incapable of being "good" or "kind". They aren't innocent. Being incapable of commiting crime doesn't make you innocent, it disqualifies you from being both innocent and guilty.
